About The Astor Grill at Cliveden House
Located in the charming old stable block, which once housed Lord Astor’s most prized fillies. Adopting an equestrian theme in its decor, The Astor Grill is full of character offering a simple and informal approach to dining at Cliveden.
The all-day menu is overseen by Executive Chef André Garrett and it focusses on a mixture of classic American and British dishes, many reminiscent of Cliveden’s diverse owners and residents. The name – The Astor Grill – recalls the Astor family, who owned the house from the early 1900s. William Waldorf Astor, America’s richest citizen, then gave the house to his son and daughter in-law, Nancy Astor, in 1906, and Cliveden became a vibrant social hub for guests as diverse as Charlie Chaplin, George Bernard Shaw and Winston Churchill.
The Astor Grill today is a cosmopolitan venue which is steeped in history, its romantic setting offers all the style and legendary hospitality that Cliveden is famous for, and it is the perfect place to escape and enjoy an early lunch or a relaxed supper.
After arriving late afternoon we wanted an informal evening meal. The Astor Grill gave us just that. Food was very tasty and well presented. The staff were attentive but not too present. A good experience.
Enjoyed the meal and ambience. Would have been glad of advice which gate to enter with the car. We came to the Hedsor gate and then saw a Cliveden sign and turned round. Our daughter led us out of that gate. We obviously should come more frequently.
Everything was perfect. Food wine and the wonderful staff. Excellent service.
Excellent service, good food, lovely surroundings. Prices at high end however I would eat there again.
The team knows their menu inside out and can advise on the vegan options off the top of their head - such a different experience to most places we eat. Amazing service, delicious food, and the food is actually very reasonably priced.
Many thanks for looking after us... 1st class experience all round
Smaller than expected but enjoyed the original “stable block” surroundings. A lovely menu and courteous staff. A few things had “run out” which was disappointing - just we’ll have to go back!
Better and quicker service now Better portions of fish as before tiny! Always love the cocktails
Jamie was very professional, knowledgeable, personable and helpful.
Over priced food...Chicken was cold...although Manager did compensate us. Waitor not paying attention and was looking away whilst trying to give our order..then had to ask us to repeat what we wanted!!..seems like this restaurant is more of a training ground for waitors!!
Thank you to the lovely team. Exceptional service and appreciated the effort - table looked lovely
Great New Year Eve fixed menu
The food was lovely and the service was excellent. We were celebrating my husband's birthday and they even gave us an extra little cake. Our table was quite private too which we liked.
Sebastian the manager is bringing back top level service at the Astor Grill! What was once a hit or miss experience is now finally being turned back into a great, dependable food and entertainment experience every time! The food was good (though we could do with a few more specials!), timing was quick and the service excellent! Portions could be a bit more generous but we were extremely happy in any case!
Nice relaxed atmosphere. Excellent service. Don’t order the burger unless u like it well done.
Amazing venue. Such a special place with brilliant food and service
Delighted to be able to bring the dog!
Always a treat!
The setting and staff were lovely but the restaurant was quite smoky and our hair and clothes smelled very strongly from lack of ventilation. The menu was excellent with a lot of delicious choices but quite pricey.
A fantastic setting, wonderful service and lovely lunch. Would highly recommend a visit
Christmas lunch was lovely. The service and staff were excellent. I would recommend and we will certainly be returning in the future.
We normally eat in the main restaurant on Christmas Eve. That not being available we opted for the Astor Grill. The decor is out of date, the food unremarkable and the prices well in excess of what they should be. £35 for a small half lobster and fries is £10-15 too much. The service was friendly but not particularly attentive. We won’t be returning.
A lovely family birthday lunch in a lovely setting. Can’t believe we’ve only just discovered it. Will definitely come again. Service was excellent. Happy Christmas!
