About The Artichoke
The Artichoke is a beautiful pub situated in the village of Croxley Green. Once you have visited The Artichoke you will see many of the beautiful original features, which have aged so well in time, sitting alongside the tasteful, more recent decor which still allows the pub to retain a country atmosphere from bygone days. The chefs focus on using quality produce and delicacies to create the most stunning food based on British classics.
Nice looking pub, good atmosphere. Service good despite it being busy on the evening myself and two daughters visited. Wine very pricey. Description of some of the items ordered was not accuarate. I had ordered the toad in the hole and what I got was a large yourshire pudding with three sausages rolling around in it. We also ordered some sides the saute potatoes were not as expected but were some new potatoes cut in half with some butter, the seasonal greens were made up of some peas, carrots and courgettes. I think if I ate there again I would certainly ask for a accurate description of what the meal comprised of. The food did taste ok and we did have a nice evening but could have done better!!
Very helpful staff, and very accommodating when asking to swap tables etc due to very warm weather. A wonderful Sunday Lunch vibe Paul
It was lovely that you had moved all the tables and put out balloons. But you where letting everyone from the garden just walk straight through the party when you have another door you could have redirected them to. Also some of your staff weren’t very friendly and made me feel like I was burdening them by hosting the party there. Don’t get me wrong we had a great time but these little things could have made it even better.
Lovely and relaxed atmosphere, the staff were great
We booked the Orangerie for a buffet from 12 on Sat 12th May. I was really upset when I arrived at 12 to find a couple eating lunch in the middle of the area we'd booked and when I asked staff what was happening they told me the buffet had been set up in the back of the pub. Rather than apologising and reassuring me it would be moved, they just set about moving everything. To their credit, they did this quite quickly but it wasn't the start I had hoped for - our friends had to stand and wait ages for a drink while furniture was moved. The food was late, but when it came it was superb and very generous quantities. Staff were extremely helpful whenever we needed anything. Settling the bill was hard work though - trying to get the manager's attention took a long time. So overall, we were happy with the food and service, but the start and end didn't leave a good impression.
Very nice service even though the team were clearly run off their feet. Nice meal. No complaints.
Had a really lovely meal for friends birthday, staff were great and really friendly. Service was a little slow. But enjoyed the night and would definitely go back. Shout out to Carl as well who was lovely!!
I asked to be seated in the conservatory as its brighter then the main bar area but it was extremely annoying having people consistently coming through the fire exit and leaving the door open, a number of us were up and down closing the door, we moved to another table near the mens toilets which was warmer however the cushioned seat was ripped and looked unprofessional and messy, especially with your prices you charge. Having said all that, the pub is so local and convenient and my Mediterranean platter was delicious
In general I was impressed with the pub, the food and the staff. I think the only thing that let it down was a few of the tables needed tidying in the garden and in the pub itself, including the one we sat at. It was a busy bank holiday but we were eating mid-afternoon so things should have been under control and tidy by the time we got in.
Great food. Lovely friendly and efficient staff. We will definitely enjoy a brunch here again. Only criticism is that we were sitting outside, following obviously a busy evening the day before and the ground was covered in cigarette butts.
Am afraid to say for second time within a month on a hot Sunday service for food was shockingly bad where we waited over an hour to find out the order had been left sat there waiting to come out - something about confusion over whether the starters had been finished. The food was remade however one of the dishes was wrong. Bit of a disaster really. The young staff members were very pleasant but are clearly not being managed or directed properly. Plates were left across many tables outside for over half an hour - we cleared our own! Food was very nice. Don’t mind the management that apologetic and instead informed us they had people call in sick - clearly due to the good weather. Maybe suggest don’t sort of absence and disciplinary procudeure to try and prevent people doing this? It’s a real shame as it’s a great pub but unfortunately can’t even compare to the feathers where service is always brilliant. The only time when The Choke is good is when VJ is there managing.
Lovely food, great portions! Staff were very friendly! We all had a great time!
Good Service and delicious food.
Very relaxing. Very satisfied
Fantastic Service. Planned for a large dinner Party, arranged fantastically, bent over backwards to accomodate my requests, beautifully decorated. All enjoyed themselves and had a delicous meal.
Sue and I are so so grateful to all the staff, you left no stone unturned. We have had everyone who we invited text and they all said what a great event. Big thanks
We were a party of six and visited The Artichoke on a Thursday night and it was buzzing, a great atmosphere! The staff were attentive & friendly. I had the Super Food Salad which was delicious! All my friends were very pleased with their choices & the portions were generous. We’ll definitely be back.
Another great evening, food was superb again and served promptly. The staff and chef never fail to impress.
Food menu is great , service was a bit slower than usual but it was very busy Easter Sunday Lunch . But please do something about your wine list , it's very limited in choice and even more limited by the glass and you did not have all the choices . Your food is much better than your wine list !
Hi had a lovely meal, all the diners said they had a great roast dinner. The only disappointing thing was the coffee liqueurs. The first lot come in a coffee cup with coffee and liquor mixed in with milk on the side. So I asked for how they should be done and the young chap was very apologetic and said they would bring more, which they did but 10 mins later, and they had cream at the top but again wasn’t done correctly. I didn’t complain again as I don’t think the staff there knew how to make a coffee liqueur correctly and for £6.50 each you expect it to be done correctly. Apart from that is was a great roast
Excellent service and our waitress was so helpful. The food was wonderful too.
Lovely male team!
Only marked down atmosphere as due to snow probably not as busy as usual. Disappointed that roast chicken had run out but great waiter and his recommended alternative was spot on
Everyone and everything was fantastic.
Friendly staff, good food & atmosphere, definitely will return
