About The Artichoke
The Artichoke is a beautiful pub situated in the village of Croxley Green. Once you have visited The Artichoke you will see many of the beautiful original features, which have aged so well in time, sitting alongside the tasteful, more recent decor which still allows the pub to retain a country atmosphere from bygone days. The chefs focus on using quality produce and delicacies to create the most stunning food based on British classics.
The staff were lovely, lots of smiles and very attentive. The chairs are very comfortable. The table was sticky and there was no Fish of the Day, but they were the only small irritations. I will definately be returning.
We have been several times. Today was not good, the tables had been varnished and the varnish was not dry and was horribly sticky; meant we had to ensure no clothing got on the table. No choice to move as they were all the same. I had a veggie Monday half price dish but was charged the full price. Also ordered a tomato juice but the bar had no Worcester sauce.
Great pub/restaurant. Never rushed to finish. Extensive tasty menu for vegetarians and vegans.
Always such a lovely meal and very friendly staff
Very good meal and excellent service thanks.
Lovely place to eat and meet.
Glad we chose the Artichoke as we'd never been there before and weren't sure what to expect - it is somewhere we'll definitely be coming back to.
Unfortunately they were extremely understaffed.our server went off duty after our mains arrived and no one replaced him. Staff were run off their feet. Our dirty plates stayed on the table for nearly an hour (still there when we left) no one came to ask if we wanted dessert, or further drinks or coffees (which we would have wanted but gave up and went in search of someone to pay the bill. Very upsetting end to a lovely start to the evening. The Artichoke really MUST employ more staff on a Saturday evening. It spoiled our experience.
Great food, great staff.
Very disappointing meal. I have only ever had good experiences at The Artichoke and it's one of my favourite places to go for breakfast/brunch so I really don't know what happened or if they were having an 'off' day but the food was totally different to normal (and I always have the same meal). All of our meals 6 meals had been literally plonked on the plate and everyone commented on how they tasted and looked different to how they normally do. I also had pips in my meal from the lemon they must have squeezed on the avocado! The waitresses were also quite rude and unfriendly. All in all a total opposite experience to the one I had at The Feathers 2 nights previously and unfortunately has put me off going back to The Artichoke for a while which is a shame as it is my local!
Very busy on arrival so staff rushed off their feet. The ones who dealt with us were great though despite how hectic they seemed. Lovely pub, good atmosphere and nice food. Would like to see the menu change more frequently - always seems the same, or at least very similar
It was disappointing that there was no beer on tap and a limited choice of bottled beer otherwise we had a good time.
Wonderful table with very friendly service. Food and drink was excellent.
My booking was for 17:30 on a Sunday and I was pleased that the roast dinners we went for were still available. Great food and excellent service by Chloe. How Chloe kept herself calm and collected with the running around she had to do I'll never know but she did, hats off! FYI to the manager - losts of tables with dirty plates and glasses on as well as one waitress who seemed to be up to her eyeballs, perhaps maintain a few more staff between shifts and/or handovers. Thanks and will be back. Billy
Great food, friendly staff great location to catch up over a Sunday lunch.
We arrived 5 minutes ahead of our booking and let the staff know, at which point they set the table for us. After we'd found our own menus (2 versions for some reason) we waited 35 minutes and not one member of staff came to take our order. Eventually I complained to the manager and a waitress arrived immediately. The food and drink were very good as usual, along with a good atmosphere.
Great food, excellent vfm. I’ll definitely be back.
After a busy day, my family were starving and dreaming of a roast dinner! Our booking was for 16:30. On being seated in a busy restaurant on a wobbly table . We were greeted by a rushed off her feet waitress. Her first words were, has anyone told you about the roasts! To our dismay all roast meats were out of stock! We could chose a roast with grilled chicken. Our disappointment was huge. We made our alternative choices, food was a good standard. But we were let down by no roasts on a Sunday, due to a busy lunchtime.
Hello. We were a party of six and had booked a table for brunch. We arrived at 11:30 to be told we needed to order in five minutes because the kitchen was changing over to lunch. So it all felt a bit rushed. Then when the food did arrive all the poached eggs were rock hard. Bit disappointing really. However the service was very good. I think Emily was looking after us.
Excellent atmosphere and a great service. The lamb cutlets were plentiful and extremely tasty!
Good service and very nice young girl waitress
Very nice food. Staff willing to make a change to my ultimate burger by swapping out 1 beef with lamb which was appreciated. Very enjoyable meal if not slightly costly.
Unfortunately, at 8:30pm, there were two family tables behind us with screaming children, one in a high chair. They were obviously too young to be in a pub at this time of night and it clearly says on the website that it's strictly over 18s after 8pm. Disappointing. It was a relief to leave
Very helpful staff Very welcoming to children and adults
