About The Artichoke
The Artichoke is a beautiful pub situated in the village of Croxley Green. Once you have visited The Artichoke you will see many of the beautiful original features, which have aged so well in time, sitting alongside the tasteful, more recent decor which still allows the pub to retain a country atmosphere from bygone days. The chefs focus on using quality produce and delicacies to create the most stunning food based on British classics.
Unfortunately we were unable to make this date so rearranged our booking to Friday 15 February. We were very disappointed when arriving on the Friday to find our table was right next to the public bar which meant we had elbows and people’s backs right above our heads. This feeling of having people stood over you is very uncomfortable particularly when out for a meal with your partner. We asked to have a different table and were offered the next table adjacent to it. We sat at this table but sadly this again was right up against the bar. Although we didn’t have people stood right behind where we were sitting, the noise of glasses being removed and washed directly above our heads, and bar staff chatting by the entrance to the kitchen, made this also a poor choice of table for a relaxing meal out. We asked if we could be seated in the main part of the restaurant, however, despite this being more than half empty at 20:15 we were told that all tables were occupied or booked. Sadly this chain of events led us to not dine with you and we left the restaurant which spoilt our Valentine’s celebrations this year. We would strongly recommend that the 2 tables against the bar, to the right when you enter, are not used for restaurant bookings as they do not create the atmosphere other areas in the establishment do. These tables are fine for a drink, however, when booking a table in a restaurant where you plan to enjoy a three course meal they were far from satisfactory, especially when compared to the other tables available in your establishment.
Waiting staff excellent and welcoming Barman ; not so much
A very disappointing visit. My first and sadly my last. This place could be so much better.
Lovely Sunday Roast, quick service will be returning! Thank you
Always tasty food and great service
I was disappointed that apparently no attention had been given to my request for a table either in The Snug or in an alcove because 3 of the group wear hearing aids and background noise, especially in the larger area makes hearing really difficult. However, all credit to the staff member who quickly switched us to a table in a quieter area.
Always a lovely place to meet for coffee or lunch.
Unfortunately favourite dish was not available
The service was incredibly slow. We told the waiter right from the start we were in s hurry and had to be out within 1h 30mins
The waiter (we were a group of 5 in the snug) was very attentive despite the restaurant being so busy. There was a considerably long wait for the main courses, but this was understandable on a busy Sunday afternoon.
The waiter was lovely, great service and food
Lovely quiet lunch.
Carl did very well to accommodate us as a large party on a Sunday for a birthday celebration. The waitresses worked very hard however one roast came to our table very late but guess this is a hazard with a large group ! I was disappointed with a pub with no lemonade - however this was rectified with raspberry lemonade for normal lemonade prices. A definite recommend for a Sunday roast.
Lovely pub, lovely food. Will definitely be back.
Booked table via website to celebrate a family birthday, when arrived at the restaurant we were turned away as they were closed for maintenance that afternoon. As you can imagine not very happy.
Booked for 5 people online for a Sunday Lunch. Didn't get to choose our table, so asked when we arrived if we could sit elsewhere. The staff were courteous to find us somewhere else to sit. The Staff are friendly and kind. we all choose different meat roasts and the food was plentiful and yummy. The bill which included Alcoholic drinks was very reasonable. Have been to the Artichoke a few times and it has always been perfectly lovely. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this Pub/Restaurant.
Avocado and crayfish starter was delicious and my partner enjoyed the pate despite it being vegetarian! Have to say the roast beef wasn't as good as the last time..meat was a bit on the tough side.
my family love coming to the Artichoke and my husband and I love coming to such a warm and friendly venue for everyday and special occasions, of which we have had many here with friends etc. This venue never disappoints and our American friends, when they were here in the Autumn, they call it Fall, loved it for breakfast and dinner.
Excellent lunch, tasty, well served soup. Attentive service with buzzy atmosphere. Thank you
You had run out of quite a lot of stuff after NYE.
Visited for new year eve...what can I say....Carl is excellent....as is all.....the staff...food amazing...always asked if we was ok and could they get us anything.....would defanatly recommend to anybody...we will be back....very soon...
Really enjoyed our Boxing Day meal, thank you
Lovely evening out with family. I like the background music & ambience.
I love this pub! However for a reservation made through ResDiary there was no way to cancel, which I tried to do 10 days before the booking by clicking from ResDiary to email the pub instead, which bounced. Having found the correct email address I then emailed the pub directly to cancel, but didn't get an acknowledgement, and still received a reminder about my booking. So I then called and left a phone message to cancel instead. All in all too hard to cancel! And if the venue didn't get the message, they'll have had an empty table, but it's not like I didn't try to do this in good time!!
Lovely food, friendly staff
