About The Artichoke
The Artichoke is a beautiful pub situated in the village of Croxley Green. Once you have visited The Artichoke you will see many of the beautiful original features, which have aged so well in time, sitting alongside the tasteful, more recent decor which still allows the pub to retain a country atmosphere from bygone days. The chefs focus on using quality produce and delicacies to create the most stunning food based on British classics.
This review is based on many visits for breakfast - the food 99% of the time is lovely, however the service is awful. Every time we visit there is an issue, either our order is wrong, or someones meal is completely forgotten. It often takes a long time for drinks to be served even though the bar will be empty. However the most frustrating thing, even more than the wrong food/time it takes to be served, is when your food is given to you, and you ask for something extra (butter, ketchup etc.) it seems to take about 10 minutes to bring them over. The staff will be behind the bar, while you're sitting there with your food going cold just waiting for something ridiculous like butter for your toast. Keeping in mind the cost is double that of most breakfast places, the service really needs to be improved. It is honestly such a painful experience, but we keep coming back as the food is great (and we live very local).
thank you for welcoming our large group of new parents for an antenatal class reunion. We were given an ideal area. There was flexibility in what everyone wanted to order and no problems with having separate bills.
Very nice meal
We have been to The Artichoke many times and on this occasion it was not a good experience. One meal was good the other not. The service was the worst we have experienced anywhere for a long time. Not sure if this was due to staff cutbacks or non-availability but there needs to be better management - back to how it used to be
I think that £4.50 for a small pot of fat chips was over priced my wife had a duck salad the duck was chewy three of us had meals with vegetables they were not cooked enough and to top that we were charged for a pint of beer that we did not have but that was put right our bill came to £154 we did not complain at the time as it was my sons birthday but very disappointing evening
Great Pub, lovely atmosphere, excellent food and choice of drinks. Bar staff friendly, enjoyed the choice of music and parking was good too.
We normally go to the Feathers their sister pub, please to say the food and service are just as good here.
A lovely place to go for a delicious lunch .
Often visit the Artichoke, food is always great.
Another great meal, terrific service and atmosphere. We’ll be back.....
Great food and fantastic customer service as always.
Great meal, served in good time. Staff couldn’t have been more helpful
We held a wake at The Artichoke recently. It was the perfect place for it. The food options for events were great value for money and also were really popular with all guests. The service we received when visiting to plan the event and on the day was outstanding. We spoke with several of the duty managers and each of them took the time to understand exactly what we wanted and they also set up the area for us beautifully on the day, displaying photo boards, props etc before our arrival. They were very attentive on the day and checked everything was running as we hoped for. Couldn’t fault the service, food or venue and will definitely be visiting more often.
Really great service and delicious food! We were a large group so sent the order into the kitchen in advance and all our food was ready and no issues. The waitresses were really lovely too, very helpful and friendly. Would highly recommend
Great pub have been several times before. Food usually great but new year's eve menu was a bit unusual. Didn't really enjoy the food. Very ordinary but good atmosphere and had a good time.
Had a great buffet for a group of 18 on Boxing Day. Easy to book and organise and staff were mostly helpful with organising food choices and dealing with requests on the night etc. Didn’t seem to be one main person in charge of this kind of thing who knows ins and outs - had to speak to a few different people who told us different things, didn’t cause much of a problem but would have been smoother to liaise with just one person who knew solid answers. Also would have been helpful to have vegetarian and vegan food labelled as had to keep asking as was hard to tell just by looking. Also tried to charge us for extra chips when the original amount brought out (2 large plates full) was nowhere near enough for 18 people, we didn’t pay but was a bit cheeky to try this. Overall though a lovely evening and we will be back!
Fantastic service and beautiful delicious buffet food ! Such a lovely place Thankyou !
Highly recommended. Friends said best pub food had this year!
Came last year for a works Christmas meal and was very nice so we returned. Slightly disappointed this year as table was not laid, cutlery in middle of table, no crackers or nice serviettes, although the crackers did appear later. Food was still very good.
Great atmosphere, food and service
A nice pub. Helpful and friendly staff.
Very local, very nice, very convenient. Friendly, helpful staff and nice atmosphere. Thanks.
My brunch was a bit cold.
We reserved an area for friends and family to meet after attending my fathers funeral. Everything was as we requested, all the buffet was delicious and well presented. The service was excellent, with the staff being very helpful. All our guests where impressed by the food , as a chef I can be overly critical but was more then happy with everything , especially the attention given to the allergy sufferers.
