About The Alice Hawthorn Inn
Welcome to The Alice Hawthorn, a charming country pub overlooking the green in the picturesque village of Nun Monkton, halfway between York and Harrogate.
Our team of chefs prepare seasonally influenced, delicious and beautifully presented food primarily from local suppliers.
Sample menus can be seen on our website but we always have a range of daily changing specials available to showcase the fish that has come in that day along with meat and vegetarian choices.
It is not just about the food at The Alice, there is a warm welcome waiting for everyone from our beer drinking regulars, dog walkers and families.
We also have the option of private dining for large bookings and parties which are not available to book online so please give us a ring for further details.
A fabulous evening with super food and exceptional service.
Great venue Great food Nice setting
Excellent meal, beautifully presented. Perhaps a tad expensive compared to similar restaurants but would certainly recommend and we will hopefully return.
We really enjoyed the food. A very good menu, excellently prepared and presented and interesting, good value house wine. Service and value very good. We will recommend to others and return
Amazing! Continues to be our favourite place for Sunday lunch. Evening meals are delicious too.
Lovely village pub, very well decorated. The food is very nice standard and well presented but please be aware some portions especially for the price so get a side prefer with your main. The let down for me is Like with many restaurants there is no soft drink menu which is disappointing especially when walking past the bar I saw many on Ofer and different brands.
Good food but experience spoiled by long wait in our order being taken and being seated.
Amazing menu, perfect non intrusive service and scrumptious food, what’s not to like !
Brought friends to introduce them to Alice Hawthorn and they agree with us, excellent food and friendly service. We all had a super lunchtime visit and will be back soon.
This was our first visit to The Alice Hawthorn it won’t be our last. Wonderful food and ambience. Friendly and efficient staff.
A very pleasant evening and all staff were very courteous and helpful
We had Sunday lunch - Main meals and desserts were really good. All freshly prepared and excellent quality. Service was also of a high standard and surroundings/decor equally so. Price was slightly higher than I would of liked but it won’t stop me going back, especially for special occasions. Thank you to all the team at the Alice Hawthorn!
It was our first visit having been recommended by friends and heard many good reports. Our table was in the front room (private dining room?). Whilst the food, venue and atmosphere were all first class the service was incredibly slow. We generally felt “forgotten” and had to ask to order our meal and for our first course plates to be taken away 20 minutes after finishing. We were 3/4 of an hour in getting our starter and a further 40 minutes until the main course arrived. I’m sure this can not be the norm given your reputation and we will return.
Superb Sunday lunch 🙂
We very much enjoyed our visit yesterday. The food was lovely as always and we will certainly be returning. Only negative being the service wasn’t as sharp as usual and I would like to see the trio of rhubarb dessert back on the menu. That might just be a seasonal thing though.
Glad to see this pub not only surviving but now thriving having visited many times of the years. I’ve been lucky enough to dine at Michelin star restaurants but the Alice Hawthorn is just as good, if not better than those experienced. Lovely setting, warm and welcoming decor, excellent wine and beer and amazing food. Above all, the service and staff are excellent, hard working, friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable. My only concern, I hope that once the extra accommodation is complete that the restaurant still has enough capacity to accommodate locals and visitors, not just tourists. A lot of investment has gone into this fabulous place but also a lot of thought and attention to detail too. This must be now one of Yorkshire’s finest flagship pubs and restaurants.
Really nice menu, we had a great time celebrating parents / in-laws Ruby Anniversary.
Fab, fab, fab as always. My favourite pub please do not change Xx
Very friendly place to visit
A lovely meal in a great place with attentive and helpful staff.
Great place with lots of charm and tastefully decorated. The food was delicious and we found the drinks reasonably priced. We will definitely return and look forward to seeing how it will look once all the renovation work is complete.
Our meal from beginning to end was faultless. The menu is wonderful and it was hard to make just one choice. Decor is tasteful and staff well trained and courteous throughout. We shall return!
Our first visit but definitely not our last. The food was excellent, beautifully prepared and presented. Lamb rump cooked to absolute perfection. Serving staff extremely helpful and friendly. A first class dining experience.
Thank you so much for a really wonderful lunch to celebrate my friends birthday. Everything was fabulous and you treated us beautifully - the first time eating at the Alice Hawthorn and won’t be the last. Looking forward to the next visit.
