Tesoro – translating to ‘treasure’ - presents lovers of Italian cuisine with a culinary treasure chest of Tasmania’s gastronomic pleasures.
Curated by Executive Chef Trent Whelan, the menu focuses on Tasmania’s seasonal delicacies sourced from regional growers, cooked with rustic Italian technique. Think house-baked focaccia and homemade pasta bursting with wild, local flavours.
Warm, welcoming and refreshingly down to earth, Tesoro is open for all day dining. The open plan grill and pizza oven lets guests take part in the energy and excitement of the kitchen while the dining room offers relaxed Mediterranean-inspired vibes. Bold wall murals and rich textures of terrazzo and bronze contrast with vibrant turquoise and sapphire blue.
Start your day with gusto… and a little bit of indulgence. Signature breakfast dishes with clever Tasmanian touches include a decadent Lobster Benedict on locally baked Black Bread and the Tesoro breakfast pizza - fresh from the oven.
Once the sun sets, Tesoro’s decadent array of Tasmanian meats - including dry aged Cape Grim beef - take centre stage, complemented by longline-caught local, sustainable seafood.
The pasta and pizza dough are handmade daily and the meats are dry aged on-site for 50 days before being char-grilled to ensure the meat is tender and cooked to perfection.
The beverage list is a dazzling list of Tasmania’s stand-out spirits, beers and wines alongside an inspired list of imported Italian varietals.
Groups are well catered for with fun share plates, antipasti and feasting boards that highlight the region’s Marion Bay char-grilled chicken and North West Tasmanian veal… just to name a few.
Dessert connoisseurs will adore the house-made tiramisu – a true crowd pleaser - but the irresistible bomboloni with chocolate and vanilla custard are so good you might want to start with dessert.
Food was excellent with good vegetarian options. Wine list fairly limited but found a good glass of white for my wife. Great having the Moo Brew pale ale on tap.
Main course was overpriced and grilled fish very poor.
We were so curious to try this restaurant and it did not disappoint. Definitely recommend having the chef's road trip - there was so much food we left in a coma. Every dish was equally delicious, making it hard to pick a favorite. The cocktails were also amazing, and couldn't be happier with the atmosphere and service. Well done, Tesoro!
Great food, well looked after by the staff, highly recommend going
Could have a few cheaper wines on offer
Superb once again. The food and staff could not be faulted.
The atmosphere was nice. The cured Tasmania Salmon was quite good. The Brussel sprouts were essentially raw and slightly warmed. The dish looked great but it was just eating raw vegetables. The pasta with prawns was essentially just prawns with tomatoes. The sauce had no flavour except tomato. The menu said there were chillies, but there was no taste of chilli. I asked for more chilli, and what came out was bland chilli, and I needed to ask for more, and the Maitre D brought out chilly flakes like it was a basic pizza restaurant. The prawns were overcooked like they had been in the tomato sauce for an hour, a terrible thing to do to prawns. The pasta was so overcooked that it was almost mush. It was like 6 minutes past al dente. and the ratio of pasta to sauce was so not Italian. Sauce should compliment pasta, not overwhelm it by drowning it. It was not an Italian dish. We will not be coming back. One of the most disappointing meals I have ever had in Hobart.
Food, Drinks & Service were all on point.
Absolutely fantastic experience on 2 occasions. The service from start to finish was first class. Big shout outs to Seth and Jason as well as AM Georgia for never missing a beat.
Excellent new venue, friendly staff and great food
Excellent value for money. Delicious food Excellent service
Beautiful flavours and attentive staff. We had a great evening! And special thanks for the birthday treat for my husband, a lovely surprise.
This was my fifth time dining at Tesoro and was my least enjoyable. The service was a bit shambolic, with basic things forgotten. Meals arriving without cutlery, a promise of a spoon for my oysters that never materialised, we had to ask for water and no offer of pepper. On the positive side - Luigi was his usual lovely self and our pre-ordered lunches came out in quick time.
We had a deal through Qantas for a two night stay, that includes a 1 hour chocolate tasting in the restaurant, we got a plate with little samples of chocolate and a coffee, we were not told what the tasting was involved or what kind of chocolate we were eating, after 15 minutes I asked a staff member were we done or was there more, they said that we could go, very weird set up, on arrival we could check in at 12pm per our deal but our room was not ready, it was only 20 minutes until they got us a room and the staff were doing there best to help us, the room was small but very cosy, the breakfast was amazing each day as was the staff to help with anything, we had valet parking and that was so easy and perfect, the staff was always there to help and plenty of them, all in all a very well run hotel in the heart of the city
Beautiful lunch and lovely restaurant
We had the chefs menu and thought that it would be good to have pasta or pizza as part of the menu
As always Tesoro is very enjoyable. The food is just superb and the service excellent. My only criticism is the music that can be intrusive at times.
The service was very good but it was too noisy.Maybe if the music was turned down you could hear the conversation at the table. Also the wines were too expensive. The food was excellent but a bit too much for our tastes.
Great 3 course dinner. Service was friendly on a very busy night. Steak perfectly cooked and pannacotta smooth and silky.
Lovely staff and amazing food... 9.5/10 The only thing letting you guys down is a barista..coffee was always late and poor Thanks for a great experience during our stay!!
TOP ‘Looove it’
My wife and I came for lunch and both ordered the $35 3-course semi set menu and it was awesome! The food was well presented, delicious and the portions were more than ample. We can't wait to return :) Thank you
Tesoro would easily be one of the best restaurants in Hobart! So much so that we are already planning a third visit, in as many weeks. The wine menu has plenty of options to suit all palettes, the food menu is well thought out, with dishes to suit all appetites, serving sizes are generous. The food is impeccable, perfectly cooked, well balanced flavours and beautifully presented. Tesoro is a real gem for Hobart diners.
A very positive experience all round for both me and my guest. Excellent service from Louise, Luigi, Sarah and Emily. Our waiter, Luigi was particularly attentive, friendly and professional. Both the food and wine menus were extensive and enticing. Perfectly cooked eye-filet steak. Great atmosphere. Looking forward to my next visit.
Excellent food, great service, good value and very nice setting.
