About Stravaigin: The Cellar
A Glasgow institution Stravaigin was established 24 years ago with a think global eat local mantra. Stravaigin is an old scots word meaning to wander and that’s what the kitchen does creating a menu full of culinary wanderlust. Using the finest sourced produce from Scottish farmers and coastal waters the kitchen hits hard with spicy inventive dishes.
Steamed buns with soft shell crabs and sambal oelek, an assorted Scottish fish bowl with Pernod and fennel broth topped with a curried egg, Scottish venion osso bucco, Loch Fyne mackerel with rhubarb and pear kimchi. Stravaigin also offers vegetarian and vegan dishes with Syrian lentil and mint koftas and rose pickled onions, or wild Scottish mushroom baklava if the season is right. Squirrel, rook, goat and sea urchin have been known to make it onto the menu on ‘special nights’ such as the DNA Dinner, the Phylum Feast or the Weird and Wild Extravaganza.
The wine list is just as well travelled picking the best from sustainable, organic and biodynamic wines.
Drinking wine in the restaurant, meeting pals for cocktails in the café bar or al fresco dining on the pavement. Stravaigin has a lot to offer. On a cold and windy day in Glasgow, snuggle in around the stove, eating our haggis and nursing a whisky. Beautifully sunny and our doors will be fully open letting the rare Glasgow rays bathe you while you sip your Grillo and nibble on a Mediterranean platter. Bands, poets, writers, artists, gourmands, and gluttons - all can be found in Stravaigin!
Lunch, brunch, dinner, cocktails, wine or beer - Stravaigin abides and delights.
Friendly service, lovely atmosphere, tasty food. Thank you.
Great atmosphere & service. Portions a bit small.
Lovely brunch,lovely staff, great service!
Such a lovely vibe by the fire and food was great :)
Portion sizes were very big, staff was very friendly and happy to help
Wonderful food and excellent service from the moment we arrived. Would highly recommend to any one looking for something a bit different.
Fabulous brunch on a rainy day
Food and service was great. The only downside is that we were given the table next to the restroom door while during all the time we were there other tables were available, even with social distancing being considered.
Thanks for an excellent lunch and the typically friendly and efficient service as you face into another forced lockdown despite all your faultless endeavours to make Stravaigin a COVID-19 safe zone. Hope to see you again soon and that good sense eventually prevails in the regulation of such well-run establishments as yours.
Brilliant service with really good food!
Fantastic friendly and attentive service! We had a selection of small plates which were all stunning. Highly recommend!!
Amazing food and lovely staff
Thank you for a wonderful evening! The service was wonderful - attentive without being too much, and it was clear your staff are very knowledgeable about the dishes offered. The food was excellent and we appreciated being able to stay at our table beyond our “slot” for a few extra drinks. We also felt very safe, staff specifically asked us to put masks on to go to the toilet or elsewhere which I haven’t noticed elsewhere. Very clean and well distanced from other diners. Hopefully we will return soon. 😊
The service was unfortunately poor. We waited over 30 mins for our mains which arrived after a table of diners who arrived 20 mins after us.
menue is terrible
We had a fabulous meal and the service was top notch. The only thing which would have made the meal more enjoyable would have been if we were sat in the upstairs section (rather than the basement, which sort of lacked any ambience / atmosphere). Have already recommended you to friends visiting Glasgow next week. Thanks for a great night!
Basement restaurant was drafty. Upstairs is much better.
Can't fault the quality of the food although the Hake portion for the main was a tad stingy. The restaurant is looking more care-worn than shabby-chic (our table wobbled, was sticky and had seen better days). Service was perfunctory (pour your own wine) and the bog-standard paper napkins and "bucket" of cutlery came as a bit of a surprise. Toilets? Spend some money on them!
Great food, but we were downstairs and not the same atmosphere as upstairs Staff were fantastic.
Loved it ! Amazing thank you
Food was delicious but what really made a difference in these tricky times was the amazing staff. Everyone trying so hard to make customers feel safe and ‘normal’. Very helpful, just the right amount of attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. Well done everyone
Food was exceptional
Great service and food for our first meal out in Glasgow since lock down.
Lovely meal. Shared two starters...pulled pork and scallops were both delicious. We all loved our mains. This is my second time eating in this resturant and both times consistently good. Would definitely recommend
