About Star and Garter
The Star and Garter is in the centre of Linlithgow. The restaurant serves a classic mix of Scottish dishes with a contemporary twist.
Lovelt afternoon tea- would prefer to choose the sandwich fillings. Changed cakes for us- fantastic service
Food was lovely
Food was fantastic, everyone commented on how lovely the food was and the choices available from the set menu. A few of us had cocktails and really enjoyed them, as well as appreciating that they were freshly made in front of us.
Was very disappoint with the service and the food my first time at the hotel I had booked on line and advised my Mum could not have any peppers due to medical reasons I also advised the waiter when we order to check there where no peppers in the side salad the starter came was there was peppers in the salad my daughter soup was to be lentil but it was very running and to creamy there was a wedding in the hotel so they may have been busy with that but the peppers was the big mistake very poor sorry.
Great night, amazing food and great atmosphere, friendly staff, will definately be back, 😊😊
Great service, excellent food and met our needs without any problem. Would recommend to anyone.
Staff are very polite and attentive. We were a table of 9 but everyone got served together. All the ladies enjoyed their meal and a good time was had by all. Would recommend the Star & Garter
We had a lovely time, the staff are helpful and friendly however we were a disappointed that there was 3 main meals unavailable from the menu, the meals we had we lovely but it wasn’t what we all wanted. Despite that we will be baxk
Excellent meal on Valentine's Day
Taken aback a little to see one of the male staff in the kitchen in his boxer shorts when the door to fhe kitchen opened! Serving staff were very helpul and friendly.
Service was very slow despite restaurant being empty. Food wasn’t all that great. Wouldn’t return.
We had our staff Christmas lunch and were delighted with the service and the quality of the food. Christmas menu was excellent value for money at £19.50 per head with a choice of 3 courses. Would recommend to anyone.
The food was great, and one of the waitresses was really good but I am sad to say the level of customer service aside from her (who only served us a round of drinks before the meal) was extremely disappointing. There was not one but two errors in our bill and when it was pointed out it was met with attitude from your staff on both occasions, without even the slightest apology which would go a long way. Mistakes happen and I appreciate it is a busy time of year for your industry but manners cost nothing. When you go out for a meal part of what your paying for is the service and it is a real shame your food was let down by this. Unfortunately it is not the first time I have found the level of customer service lacking, last time we were in for drinks we had to wait almost 10 minutes to get served at the bar, not because it was busy but because the bar staff were having a private conversation ignoring the waiting customers. Maybe more training required in good customer service?
We had a very enjoyable meal on a busy Saturday night. Great food and service. Highly recommended
Had an amazing time, the staff were so friendly, they couldn’t do enough for us, would stay there again
We had a fab afternoon tea. Staff couldn’t do enough for us. Food was good and portion size excellent.
Food and service were both amazing. I did find the wine list fairly limited and quite expensive compared to other restaurants I've eaten at
I organised a Private Dinning event for 10 people at The Star and Garter on Saturday night and was delighted with the outcome. The food was really lovely, great in terms of quality, quantity and value for money. The menu was imaginative and impressive and the service both beforehand and on the evening was excellent. Our server was so helpful and pleasant and nothing was too much bother. Our event was in The Snug and we were allowed to provide some of our own decoration and bring our own music, which made it like being at home with much better food and absolutely no hassle. Many thanks to the team at The Star, well done.
it is unfortunate as I am only rating on this one visit and therefore my experience on the day may not truly reflect the hotel at its best. The staff on arrival were very helpful and our waitress on the day was absolutely brilliant and a credit to the hotel. we had booked for afternoon tea and i had spoken to the gentleman at time of booking to explain our very fussy sandwich requirements. on the day despite these being recorded and being mentioned by the waitress they had to be sent back as they were completely wrong. The shortcake was unpleasant and not editable and the scones appeared frozen in the middle. it may have been that there where not fresh and had been kept in the fridge or else just stale. we noted that other party who also had afternoon tea had also left the shortcake and scones as well. As mentioned this may not truly reflect the standard of food overall at the hotel however I can only provide feedback on our experience at that time. Again worth noting how helpful, friendly and professional our waitress was on the day.
Had a lovely afternoon tea here yesterday. Good variety of sandwiches and cakes. Staff were lovely and service fab! Can't wait to return!
First visit to the star in over 1 year due to bad experiences. Was very disappointed. The food was tasteless. The beef pie had no taste to the broth/gravy and even the extra gravy that was provided did not have a nice taste. The meat however was cooked very well. Another dish, the manorview burger was described as including a chutney which sounded delicious however no chutney was provided and had to be asked for. The coleslaw with another burger was described in the menu as a spicy coleslaw yet also had no taste and was very watery. The staff were superb however it's hard to have nice atmosphere when the restaurant is empty. The star used to have a great buzz to it and was the place to be. Now it is not worth the journey for a visit and it is very sad that the new owners are not in my opinion taking things seriously. The food may be fresh while other restaurants in the town serve from frozen however where there is good flavour and cooked meat you will not go wrong! Please can the owners of this hotel sort the place out and restore it to its former glory as it has trumendous potential. My family and I will not be back for a while but if I hear that things do start to improve I would love to come back.
My mother & I enjoyed an afternoon tea booked through groupon. Service was good with lovely fresh sandwiches, the scones were delicious & served with butter, cream & jam, cup cakes & a selection of tray bakes. Far too much to eat, leftovers were bagged for us to take home.
Good quality afternoon tea with excellent service, nothing was too much trouble
The staff could not have been more accommodating. We were an antenatal group with 12 mums and 12 babies and it was lovely to have a local business accommodate us all
