About Stanbrook Abbey Hotel
Delicious food complemented by wonderful views, Stanbrook Abbeys Restaurant dining rooms offer an elegant, laid back experience, which celebrates our seasonal collection of menus designed to indulge and delight the senses.
Lovely meal as part of our autumn break package. Food was delicious and staff were very helpful. As the meal was part of our package it was reasonable value, but it would be a bit expensive for us as a usual meal out, other than a special occasion.
Absolutely lovely Champagne afternoon tea, delicious sandwiches, scrumptious scones and cakes & a good choice of teas. All in beautiful surroundings. The food and service was exceptional.
Beautiful place, fantastic rooms and ambience. Food good, but felt not enough cream for 2 scones ! Also,as such a wonderful place, then perhaps proper jam should be served in a dish, rather than in the jars ! Just a thought. Love the place though
Hi There, Thank you for giving me the opportunity to comment on my Afternoon Tea. The sandwiches were very nice and the scones were exceptional. But I did have to ask for more jam and cream. Considering we had two each, the amount of jam was nowhere near enough. The small desserts were terrible, I really couldn`t eat them, The chocolate ones were OK but I struggled not to spit the others out. A real shame, because it left a bad memory of an otherwise very nice afternoon. I won`t be returning or recommending it as a special day out. Ian Jones
Not a lot of choice on lunchtime menu
It was very quiet until the piano started and some people were whispering but everything else was fine.
Delicious food, beautifully presented with excellent, attentive service. Will definitely return for another meal.
The cream with the scones was whipped not clotted. The table cloth had bits of fluff on it so appeared dirty.
I treat for a special friend, who has had a rough year would have complained but not in a position. Sorry to say not as good as last year, when we had small savoury tarts, macaroons and meringues. However did like the small scones. The sandwiches were poor, colour and taste of bread not good and the fillings were not much better especially the cucumber and egg ones. Although I booked with the offer still poor value Service excellent
Took my wife for her birthday to the hotel and had dinner on the night of her birthday in the restaurant. She loves salmon and ordered accordingly. The salmon appeared fine but was accompanied by floating vegetables! Sadly she did not tell me, nor the staff, of this in case it spoilt the atmosphere of here birthday. Will think twice about using this restaurant!
The new building that is now the reception area has destroyed the historic atmosphere of this wonderful abbey. Georges bar is so tacky it is hard to believe. A colour scheme of purple furniture, including the leather seating, lime green chairs and strange light fittins is Liberace at his best - and he died 31 years ago!
This was our return visit after we got married there last year and once again the service from every member of staff was fantastic, Even walking past a member of your team they smile and ask if your ok. We already highly recommended stanbrooke and will continue to do so.
Awfull service at bar. Untrained staff, ordered 2 liquour cofffees in restaurant. Had to go down to bar, to find out where they were. I could see them behind bar, only to be cold they had gone cold. Waited a further 30 minutes from them to arrive. Staff certainly not hand picked
Food was poor quality and lacked flavour. Overpriced for the amount of food that was served. The service itself was slow and I had to continually ask the waiter for assistance (with bill, more tea etc). Would not recommended and will not return.
Beautiful location and stunning buildings tastefully decorated. The toilets were amazing ! Perfect ambience and piano music. Delicious food selection served by attentive and unobtrusive staff - nothing was too much trouble. Excellent value for money. Would highly recommend the whole Afternoon tea experience.
Wonderful lunch in beautiful surroundings
First time I've booked for afternoon tea and it was a perfect outing for myself and 2 friends, one of whom was visiting from Canada. Great service (very friendly lady from Portugal, who's name I can't remember) Will definitely be back and will recommend to friends.
We enjoyed this visit but you have to provide excellence of service throughout and not just when its convenient for your business. When I book a table for two (Sunday lunch at 2pm) I don't expect to arrive at the restaurant to find that the table isn't set and we felt we were not expected despite booking in advance.. Then despite the fact that my bill with wine was in excess of £150 its disappointing that the staff were withdrawn presumably to serve the wedding party that had begun. I had to return to the bar to settle my bill. Much to improve upon but as we live in the village you will get another chance to provide a full service.
No information when we announced our arrival as to where our tea would be served so we waited in the room where we had been served on other occasions. Service was very slow as we had to wait ages for our food and our guest asked exactly how much longer it was going to be? Also there was no excuse for delay as we were the only guests waiting to be served! Poor quality jam and no champagne did not help.Disappointing as this was a complementary tea to address the problems of last time.
The afternoon tea we had was absolutely delicious. The food was lovely, particularly the scones. The kitchen catered very well with my nut allergy which I know can be difficult with regards to afternoon teas at times. Therefore I would recommend the afternoon tea here. The only things that let down the experience was the services. Once we had received our food not one member of staff came to see if everything was okay with the food or whether we wanted refills of our pots of tea. I thought this was surprising especially as I do have a food allergy and therefore expected some interaction from the serving staff to check everything was alright. Overall it was a lovely afternoon tea.
Lovely setting. Food was well presented and very fresh. Service was professional
The overall experience was OK, but we were not really welcomed and left hanging around in the Piano lounge for a good few minutes before someone greeted us, there was also confusion as to where we were sat. There was no real engagement from the staff. Whilst the food was of good quality, the sandwiches felt as if they were hanging around for a bit. There is nothing really wrong, just expected more from the setting.
Given description that food served was fine dining it was very disappointing for the way it was presented and the lack of flavour and seasoning. Breakfast was ok although my husband felt the cooked breakfast was on the small side.
It felt like the waiters we had didn't really know what they were doing. Firstly we were given the wrong food and then the next waiter didn't seem relaxed with his role. My party would have preferred real brown bread and good quality white bread as opposed to the coloured poor quality white bread sandwiches we received. The scones were lovely and the cream quantity very generous. Cakes looked lovely and the mini cheesecakes were very tasty.
Excellent food - the chef is phenomenal! And the service was amazing!
