Excellent food and service, we would highly recommend.
Goats cheese tart was more like a chutney tart with cheese topping. Beef excellent. Eton mess lovely. lemon posset very nice. Service excellent after delay delivering drinks at start of meal.
Excellent food, prompt service on Mother's Day.
Thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Lovely table, great food, great service and great atmosphere. Can’t wait for the next time.
We were thrilled with the Mothers Day menu, it was fantastic. The service was fantastic, our waitress was so professional yet friendly, and very attentive. The quality of the food was exceptional, the choices were fantastic (I wanted everything!!). Very good value for money. Thank you for a fabulous experience.
A good place to spend some relaxing time having a meal and a drink, really enjoyed the it.
Service from Chloe was great and we did not feel rushed which was particularly good as we had our 3month old baby with us. Food was lovely and we will definately be visiting again.
A lovely place
Great meal as always!
We came for Sunday lunch last Sunday as it had been recommended by a colleague. The atmosphere is lovely and the service good. Nice personal service and attentive. Drinks and food came quickly. Only criticism was that the main meal could have been hotter as it was warm as best. The soup was piping hot and delicious. Other than that couldn’t fault it.
Delicious food - deserves 5stars but a prawn dish starter seemed to be missing ( the sharing board does not suit everyone.) Excellent team and our Puppy also enjoyed the ambience of her first Pub Lunch!
Welcoming & nicely decorated throughout. Efficient service & lovely Sunday dinner. Only negative comment was rather crowded with tables & chairs.
Lovely food and great decor. Service was slow but to be fair it was a Sunday lunchtime and the place was packed. Staff very nice and polite so the mark down is on speed of service not the staff!
Found the Yorkshire pudding had no real taste to it
Long wait for a table, even though we had booked, our table had been booked out twice, however the manager sorted his and helped with gluten free and dairy free options.
Always loved the square and compass and this rating is based only on this visit... it was absolutely chaotic. Waited approx 1h20m for mains to arrive! Had to ask where food was. Was embarrassed to being visiting friends on this occasion... what went wrong?! Been here lots on sundays
Good value, traditional pub food eaten in the bar or a more formal restaurant setting. Great find.
Lovely meal for my birthday. Great atmosphere, attentive but not intrusive service and delicious food
My wife is Coeliac and S&C advertises a gluten free menu. I ordered a gluten free pudding and explained my wife's condition. We were given a non gluten free version of a GF pudding which my wife ate (thinking it was GF). The restaurant were very apologetic but unfortunately the damage was done. I really would expect more thoughtfulness and care with customers health from a restaurant with regards to allergies and intolerances.
Warm welcome. Excellent food and service.
I dined with a group of 9 friends last Saturday evening and I was very impressed with the attentive service and good food. We all had a very enjoyable evening. Thank you
Wonderful as usual!
Unfortunately not a good experience, our table was booked for 3.15, we finally sat down at 3.40. It took a while for our starters to come and then we waited over 30 minutes for our main courses - we had to ask - we felt we had been forgotten. Yorkshire puddings cold were cold and everything else luke warm. We then waited a long time to be given the menus for dessert and then waited 15-20 minutes again for the one dessert ordered to arrive. Polite and cheerful waiting staff but clearly place overbooked and a bit chaotic. Quality of food was good.
Fabulous meal on Sunday, as always! Consistently the best Sunday roast I've found in the Yorkshire!
Sat 17th Feb, you slipped from your customary 7 or 8 ex 10 to a 5, because the service was so scratchy; waited ages after ordering wine; weren't offered any blackboard choices and the one we could see was obsolete; weren't offered coffee, etc. Noticeable that neither of the usual managers was evident.
