About Spice Valley
Lively colour-splashed Indian dining room serving a varied menu of Indian sharing plates. Eating food, which excites and delights; is one of the simplest yet most fundamental joys. As a species, humans have created wonders beyond the imagination of our forebears and gained knowledge......
Another great evening. Service a tiny bit slower than we would've liked but we were a large party so no big deal. Once ordered, food was out quickly enough, staff very knowledgeable and happy to advise on choices.
When I arrived I told the person the name the table was booked under and that is was for 15 people and we were told that no one had arrived yet so we almost went and waited outside but we decided to go sit down at the table and wait for the others. We were then pointed in the direction and told we would see our table. It was clear then that the waiters didn't have a clue about our booking as there was a table for 10 set up with my colleagues sitting on it. Firstly I was really annoyed that they didn't even know our table had arrived and secondly that considering we booked a couple of months in advance you would hope that would give them enough time to get the correct amount of chairs out, especially as the restaurant was so empty. We finally got our drinks order taken but had to wait over 30 minutes for our food order to be taken. When taking the order the waiter tried to upsell for everybody's dish which I can understand as you are a business but in regards to my order he recommended a more expensive chicken tikka masala as that one had premium chicken, so I questioned him about the quality of the chicken used in the other tikka masala and asked why don't they just use quality meat for all of their dishes? I was then not looking forward to my meal at all considering some of us may be getting low quality meat. the food finally came but was handed out disgracefully. One waiter had 2 bits of naan bread on one plate and asked my colleague to take the top one off with her hands and put it on her plate! I've never seen a standard of service so low in a restaurant before, especially an Indian restaurant which are normally renowned for their excellent service. This terrible show continued as the rest of the food came out. After reminding them several times we had about half of our meals the waiter then said 'is there anything else I can get you?' to which we replied, yes the rest of the food we ordered please. This then took another ten minutes before everyone finally had what they ordered. The food itself was very mediocre. The onion bhaji's where very oily, the rice and naan bread portions where tiny and we were only asked for another drink once during our meal. I have worked in the restaurant industry for over 10 years and if you see an empty glass you should at least ask if the person would like another drink. Some of us got so thirsty waiting we nearly had to stop eating our meal and go up to the bar to order. When it came to the bill, the prices were all written down in pencil and we were unable to read due to the poor handwriting. We asked for a printed copy but were told they couldn't do that. We also had a sum total for our drinks instead of the break down of the individual beverages. Some of us had wine, some had beer, some had coke and we were all paying separately so this made it extremely difficult to work out. We then asked the waiter to separate the bill into what people had which he said he would not do so we asked for a drink and food menu and had to work it out ourselves. We then discovered that they had added on extra items and also rounded up prices on our bill, along with this they had changed the red wine we ordered originally to the most expensive one on the menu without asking anyone first! We could of wasted our entire evening arguing about this with the staff but we were sick of the place and just wanted to leave. Normally a party of 15 would get offered some kind of complimentary drink or some kind of extra service to warrant a tip but you did neither. There is a huge choice of Indian restaurants in Norwich so it is safe to say I will not have to return here ever again. Thank you for ruining our staff Christmas meal!
Another excellent evening at Spice Valley. Thank you.
Brilliant as always
We were a small party of 8 on what was a busy Friday night leading up to Christmas. First impressions were good but we then realised that service was in 'meltdown' as clearly the they had too many covers booked in at the same time and service - both drinks and food could not cope. It took us over 40 mins to get a drink and it was around an hour an half before the food arrived from when we sat down. The food was good when it arrived so we may well give the restaurant another chance.
Lovely food and a great service. Thank you. We will be coming back again for sure!!
Waited over an hour for starters which came out cold .... when we notified waiter he took them away and brought them back with couple of minutes... they had been in microwave and even the side salads where now hot !! We up and left .. would never go back or recommend this place
Waited a good hour before we could even get anyone to take our order. Two hours and several complaints later we were still no nearer getting served and walked out, and we were not the only ones, such a badly organised place, the table next to us sent theirs back as it was cold, it was hot when it came back but so was the salad, blatantly been in the microwave. All I can say is never ever go here, it is truly awful!!
Excellent food and service. What more can you say?
Fantastic service and great food
Food was ok. Had to wait over two hours for food
Very welcoming staff. The person who took our order was very knowledgeable about the menu and was able to recommend dishes which were delicious. We will definitely return and would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant
The restaurant was not busy but our booking was at 8.30 but we waited nearly an hour for our starters Food was nice but kept waiting too long ....
Food and service were both great, will definitely return!
Excellent customer service, excellent food, even offered a drink on the house. Will definitely be returning.
Very good food and a decent bottle of Pecorino. Great night out!
Requested a table on the side as I wear hearing aids but was given a central table. They were dealing with a party of 30 people which seemed to lead to others having terrible service eg waiting after mains over 30 mins and still not given dessert menu or service for more drinks.Having complained we were still waiting 15 minutes later so got bill which was adjusted and left having had only 1 drink and no dessert coffee etc.
I booked through google and ResDiary but the restaurant had no idea, even though i had 3 confirmation emails (1 from google and 2 from 'Spice Valley'), however they were still very accommodating. Food and atmosphere was great, restaurant was lovely and they provided an excellent service.
Very good service and excellently organised Maybe you should do a Buffet night as this ran well and Norwich lacks a good Indian Buffett One comment the curry’s didn’t lack flavour on this evening but this was proverbly due to cooking in bulk for the event. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful building amazing rapport with all members
Fantastic service, lovely food! Great portion sizes! Staff very friendly and offered recommendations and cooked dishes that weren’t on the menu with no fuss. Superb place! Will be returning!
Great staff superb meal
We had an amazing night. Food was great, staff were very friendly and looked after us well. The Bollywood theme was fun and a nice touch getting to meet the chef at the end of service. I would Definitely recommend.
2nd time eating here, excellent service and food, will definitely be coming back.
