About Soul Bar and Restaurant
A stunning conversion of a former church, the Langstane Kirk, into a contemporary bar and restaurant.
The Garden at Soul is our new heated outside area.
Booked a table weeks ago to be told when arriving you aren’t taking bookings and needed to stand in a line of about 40 people. Was also told the booking system had been taken down....clearly not !
We booked a table prior to us travelling over an hour to Aberdeen. When I phoned to confirm booking was told my reservation was not being honoured as they had changed to walk ins only. Very disappointing. If I had not phoned it seems that we would not have been advised that our booking had been cancelled. We therefore did not come to your bar at all.
Had mussels as starter - amazing, service great only tiny thing was burger was slightly dry but still tasty would probs come back like
cant fault food and service. the main door meant there was always a cold draught in the restaurant
Enjoyed the experience with the restaurant! Keep up the good quality, will definitely come back for another wonderful fish meal!
Name of the restaurant mislead us into thinking there would be a wide selection of fish and seafood. Instead, the menu was very ordinary with just the usual fare and a limited selection of fish choices. What we ate was fine but the menu fell far short of expectation.
I think as we went on sat night, and it was changed into soul bar it was a bit odd. We felt like there was a cut off and we needed to go. Food was good and service was great until 9 and then it was clear we needed to leave, removed placemats while we were talking, no offer of desert until some one came and said nobody wants desert do they as kitchen is away to close. Could have made a few extra quid from us on deserts - food was good and service before 9pm was good
The best roast potatoes I’ve had in a restaurant. Excellent meal and service
i asked for a table away from the main door which i got however the table we got and the surrounding area was very cold. wetold the girl who served our food and she said that the heating was on, NOT ON OUR TABLE IT WASN'T. it was cold all through the meal and the food got cold pretty quickly.
Service was soooo slow and inattentive! There were 4 staff, no more than 8 covers on the go and we had to wait for our mains to be cleared for a long while and on several occasions the girls walked past ignoring the empty plates!! Then when mains came, 2 of the fish were overcooked to the extent the fish was chewy....no way they should have been served! I mentioned at the time i wouldn’t be paying for mine as it wasn’t eaten and it was taken off the bill but it’s such a shame because the place is lovely but let down by staff not being on the ball and a kitchen putting food out when they would have definitely been able to see it wasn’t right! Our starters were delicious though which makes it all the more disappointing that things went wrong after the first course!!
There was several items unavailable on main menu then the wine we ordered was also unavailable The mac and cheese was dry with no sauce looked like a reheat with some extra cheese on top Other meals were average at best Won’t be returning
Great meal with my team last night food and service both outstanding. Would highly recommend
It was our first time at The Fishmarket but will definitely not be the last. Excellent food, service was super efficient and fast. The atmosphere was very calming and we thoroughly enjoyed the background music provided by a singer in the bar. Cannot wait until the next time we are in Aberdeen.
Absolutely grand - really good food and the staff were lovely
Price of bottles of wine expensive for the quality.
Thoroughly enjoyed our early Saturday evening meal with family. Staff were exceptionally pleasant and helpful. Fish was very well cooked.
Haddock in batter was so good, service was excellent.
The food was outstanding, I will be back very soon. Only let down was the table service was slow
Pleasant lunch with friends. Good food and service
Both my friend and I ate the exact same thing and we’ve both been showing food poisoning symptoms. I had to call my GP as I’m 4 months pregnant. I won’t take the risk and go back there again unfortunately. The service was excellent, very friendly waitress, but the food made us very sick, whether it was undercooked seafood, out of date, or contaminated due to incorrect storage or whatever.
This was my second time eating at The Fishmarket. The first was on one of the first nights of it opening and it was fab. I was realy let down on my visit on Saturday, the food was less than great. Our starter of Calamari was absoluetly tiny, in fact we considered sharing a starter of calarmi as usually calamari is a large portion. Thankfully we ordered one each. We then had the sharer plate which just looked as if a bunch of food had been thrown on a plate, there was no presentaton to it what so ever (not that we were expecing anything fancy but i was just a mess) the haddock and scampi was SO soggy and the breadcrumbed hake was overly dry. I appreciate the food isn't overly pricey however less our drinks we still were £55 for this meal. It was actually worse than food you would get from the chipper round the corner and that would hae been less than half the price. My husband is a seafood buyer for Nolans Seafood and knows how seafood should be cooked, Saturday's meal was not up to standard at all. The staff however were super attentive and the cocktails were great as usual but unfortunately we won't be returning to eat.
First time visit would definitely recommend good service and reasonable prices.
