About The Fishmarket at Soul
Located within the popular Soul Bar on Union Street, The Fishmarket at Soul is Aberdeen’s newest seafood dining destination. Situated in a bright and airy dining space, The Fishmarket at Soul keeps it simple - real, classic fish and chips, done well.
Our menu celebrates Scottish seafood, with a large range of starters, as well as Scottish shellfish and alternative main dishes such as classic pie & mash. The main feature of the menu is our ‘Real Fish & Chips’; our perfected take on classic fish and chips dishes.
It was a great food, service was brilliant and the value was super. We go out every Thursday and this was a definite for us in the future. Can’t go wrong .
Shared the waterloo quay platter, was plenty for two of us to share, the fish was freshly cooked, lobster was delicious and very meaty!! We also shared the loch fyne oysters which were one of the best we had both tasted, and rather large too which we were both happy about. Service was pleasant and very attentive. Would definitely recommend to friends and family.
We had reserved online, waitress told us we didn’t have a reservation, then asked if it was online and led us to an unreserved table after having to wait in foyer unsure if we’d get a seat. Waitress asked four our drinks order repeatedly without giving us much time to choose. She was pleasant though, just needed training maybe? She wasn’t sure which sauces were coming with my dish and basically got it all wrong and I was charged for the extra sauce having come back to tell me there would be no sauce, the langoustines then arrived Thermidor with two ailioli! Food wasn’t great if I’m honest. I know langoustines are expensive but the scampi was a very small portion - prob sensible to state on menu how many langoustines and scampi you get? Lots of shell in the langoustine meat, not cracked cleanly. Chips tasted frozen, not fresh if I’m honest. Slaw was lovely but We left hungry! It was really disappointing in honesty. Place looked great though, and menu reads like a dream, just didn’t quite live up to expectations.
We had an excellent meal with very efficient service from very polite and pleasant waiting staff. We will definitely recommend to friends and family
Food was excellent, drinks were good! However the overall experience was let down by the service! Yes it was a Friday night and most tables were taken however there was more than enough staff to cover. Most of the time they would be standing about not doing anything or just walking around again not doing very much. 15-20 mins before they even took our drinks order! Once the food order was eventually taken the food came pretty quick! Service was definitely a let down!
As someone who knows his seafood( I’m a fishermen) l must say the seas food at your restaurant was excellent .l certainly will give you a visit again !!
We enjoyed our lunch and were pleased there was a choice of size with fish and chips. Staff were friendly and attentive.
Very tasty food and good value. The staff are also very helpful and pleasant
We all had a lovely meal, will def be going back!
Very prompt and pleasant service. Food was lovely
Great fish restaurant ,,, highly recommend
Good welcome and starter arrived quickly however had a very long wait for main course and a number of other tables were also complaining. We had to chase up waitress for our main meal. Waiting staff not very proactive when they could see a number of tables were waiting.
The only reason I gave it 3 stars for atmosphere is we arrived early at 5pm and were the only table for around half an hour or so - we will definitely pay a return visit as the food was excellent - fresh fish and chips - what more could you ask for 😋
We were seated right next to the main door which wasnt a great placement everytime someone went out or came in, the door would slam. The food was absolutely amazing though and extremely good value. We picked here because they offer something different than everywhere else in town. Could not fault the food and service
Quiet but it was Sunday night. Music just at the right level. Staff friendly. Good selection on menu. Each course took a while to come but was very nice. Hubby struggled to find the haggis in his Mac’n’cheese (£5 extra) however. Got green tea instead of ordinary tea and espresso in a large cup so went cold in a nanosecond unfortunately. Enjoyed it on the whole, though.
Sadly the restaurant didn’t have any working oven and couldn’t provide any food so we had to find somewhere else to eat. They did try to phone me but for some reason didn’t leave a message. Most unsatisfactory
I had dinner with my daughter and the food and service were superb. We shared Calamari as a starter, Scampi and lobster for main courses, and all 3 dishes were excellent, as was the wine (Gavi). I have been to the Fishmarket several times and will be back soon.
Had to wait almost an hour for food which we were given free of charge That was very fair . Quality of seafood was ok , not great, presentation really needs improving, looked a mess. Music got louder as night went on . Service was good
Best fish and chips I’ve had for a very long time! not greasy and the batter was amazing. Service not so good, waitresses were glum and uninterested, asked for clean glasses as there was lipstick on both, took them 10mins to come back with clean ones.
Excellent food and cocktails ,,, well worth a visit Will definitely return
We were a party of 5 and 3 of the meals were good but 2 of us had the mac and cheese which was the most tasteless dish I have ever had! We did inform staff and it we were not charged for the 2 dishes.
I did at the restaurant
The crab claws were delicious but unbelievably messy. We all assumed they would be cracked or served dressed/open. The sauce was delicious but it was unbelievably messy and we all (3 persons) ended up giving up after covering our fourth guest from head to toe in the sauce. Not great.
I am coeliac and from reading your press release I came to eat with high expectations. I am happy to tell you that you easily exceeded them!! The whole family enjoyed the meal and I had one of the nicest coeliac (GF) friendly meals in the 6 years I have been GF. We will be back. Fish goujons on the kid's menu would be warmly received - our youngest was a little disappointed they were not an option. With so much GF options I would be very happy to see you adding GF symbols to each relevant dish - although i asked many times i was still doubtful the breadcrumbs would be GF and I do not think the bottom of the menu explains the options fully - so that change would be great. I would say you have the potential to be the best GF restaurant in Aberdeen! Will be back.
