About The Fishmarket at Soul
Located within the popular Soul Bar on Union Street, The Fishmarket at Soul is Aberdeen’s newest seafood dining destination. Situated in a bright and airy dining space, The Fishmarket at Soul keeps it simple - real, classic fish and chips, done well.
Our menu celebrates Scottish seafood, with a large range of starters, as well as Scottish shellfish and alternative main dishes such as classic pie & mash. The main feature of the menu is our ‘Real Fish & Chips’; our perfected take on classic fish and chips dishes.
Service was very good but when we ordered our drinks we were told that the beer that was recommended to go with the fish and chips was unavailable. The next beer chosen was also unavailable! Little disappointing for a bar to not be properly stocked on a Saturday afternoon. We both ordered the breaded haddock and although the fish was tasty the breaded coating was hard and difficult to cut. The restaurant was very quiet at 12.30 when we arrived but got progressively busy by the time we left at 1.45pm. Would like to give this place one more shot and try something different on the menu.
My new favourite!
Very enjoyable, food lovely
We had the seafood platter. Sadly they had ran out of lobster so offered more langoustines and oysters. We opted for more langoustines which we got 1 full extra langoustine in lieu of the lobster which I would suggest isn’t really an adequate substitution. On top of this the langoustines were overcooked to the point the claw meat had all but evaporated and they only had one tool for fishing meat out of claws which isn’t really ideal for 2 ppl. To the restaurants credit they quickly understood and rectified the situation by reducing our bill and offering complimentary drinks. They therefore succeeded in ensure we left satisfied even with the food issues. I therefore have to give praise to the team and the management for the handling of the situation and therefore I would be more than happy to return as a customer. Exactly how customer service should be handled.
Great food and service
Really tasty food, my son who is 10 said it was the BEST Cullen skink he has ever tried. Would highly recommend.
Disappointing that the music was so loud conversation difficult. Should not be a problem for a table of six.Shall not return
First class service. Excellent atmosphere and friendly staff
This is my 4th visit in the last 5 weeks so must be doing something right. Choice on the menu is excellent and the food has always been very good. Lively atmosphere, not too loud but good to heAr background music and others enjoying themselves. Tables are a bit too cramped for my liking / 2 person tables are too small and too close together. My chair was repeatedly hit by people squeezing between me a people sitting at a high table behind me..... try and give a bit more space! Tomato ketchup I opened exploded with a pop and covered me in ketchup....,my main worry is how fresh was it for it to do that? Maybe use individual smaller portions in sealed packets/ tubs or small dishes. Wasn't a problem but if it had been my wife’s light coloured top would have been. Staff are courteous and helpful but seemed inexperienced lacking training. Overall I think doing a good Job just need to iron out the teething problems.
Excellent service, excellent food.
Jus did a feedback last week and we are at Soul again on the 27th April
Good fish and chips
Fantastic to see so many Gluten Free options and the awareness of staff regarding food allergies. It's great to find somewhere we can be confident eating. Thanks.
We have been to Soul for lunch many of times over the past few years and have never had ay problems.
Extremely friendly and efficient staff , very helpful. We had the Old Torry Harbour Basket. The quality was excellent , but the portion was a bit on the small side although good value for the price. One very big problem was the cold temperature in the restaurant. Despite it being an extremely cold night , the air conditioning system was belching out cold air , not warm air. We will definitely be back , but on a warm summer evening !
Really enjoyed our meal at The Fish Market last Thursday. Food was lovely and staff very helpful. I’ll be back for sure :)
Cocktail class was fab, very well organised. Went very smoothly considering there were so many of us. Richard was fab during our class, all of the girls had a fab time and he was very understanding about us running slightly late. Will definitely be back :)
Overall had a really good lunch, generous portion size for the mains and good food, very good service, however the side of mushy peas was very small and definitely overpriced.
Very good menu and the staff were excellent
First time visit and will definately go back. At first look it just looks like an upmarker fish 'n' chip shop but there's a lot more to it than that. Really good quality fish/shellfish.
Nice setting, pleasant and attentive staff. We ordered the Seafood Platter to share at £20 per person, and ordered a portion of chips and mushy peas on the side, but it was very little food and came away hungry. Food was tasty though.
We were sat by the window, looking onto Justice Mill Lane and there were flies everywhere! Spent our whole meal batting them away. My husband had cod which was terrible. He had chocolate ice cream for dessert, which tasted like it had come from a supermarket! My meal was reasonable however a lot of the mussels in my bowl were closed. The only saving graces were the wine, the knickerbocker glory and our waitress (who was mortified when we complained!) - We certainly won't be rushing back, which is a shame as I'd expected big things!
Great place would highly recommend
Friendly service. Food was realy tasty but £18 for Lemon Sole & chips was a bit steep.
Quality of Food was good however certain courses had very meagre portions for the price - at least recognised (eventually) by a bill reduction. A disappointing evening all-in-all.
