About The Scotch Malt Whisky Society - Queen Street
The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) is an international members club that bottles the world’s widest selection of exceptional and rare single cask, single malts for discerning whisky lovers from all corners of the world.
We like to think of ourselves as unconventional, adventurous – and a lot of fun.
This weeks home dining experience is a delicious 3 course menu highlighting the delicious flavours of our in venue dining experience. Again we pair each course with our amazing whiskies which have been expertly selected by our Whisky Host team. - and as always you can add a bottle of our exclusive whisky or wine on to your home dining order.
Excellent again. Great quality food and drink. Will definitely be doing it again.
Fantastic food and drinks package. The instructions for preparing the food were spot on and the videos for the food and matching drams were excellent. Great value for money and nearly makes up for not being able to visit the venue.
Excellent delicious food.
Most elements of the meal (and whiskies) were delicious; however the veloute had a rather overwhelming mushroom flavour, the portion of the venison (for 2) was shockingly small and the lapsang souchon cream was just unpleasant. Unfortunately the surprise whisky cocktail had mostly leaked out but overall a tasty, easy to cook meal, delicious whiskies and an enjoyable experience.
Absolutely amazing dinner this evening- true restaurant quality. Good sized portions and a real treat, incorporating things I wouldn’t attempt to do at home myself . Have already recommended to 3 friends and will most definitely come to the restaurant when you are able to reopen . Head and shoulders above other at-home menus we have tried during lockdown. Thank you!
Just experienced home dining package and it was wonderful. From the video showing how to prepare and present the meal to enjoying the food it was fantastic from beginning to end. Quality of the food and ingredients were par excellence.
The home dining experience is fabulous. The ingredients are first class. The preparation is clear and simple. And the matching whiskies are simply superlative. Highly recommended.
This was my third home dining experience and each time one arrives it feels like Christmas. The food has been delicious and exciting each time and I’ve actually still enjoyed the novelty of having such a nice meal at home. I’m excited for the day SMWS can re-open, but hope home dining sticks around!
This was the most amazing experience! The food was superb with excellent pairing of whisky and tasty cocktails. The preparation was fun and Very clearly explained by the chef and sommeliers. It all made for a delicious meal and most enjoyable evening. A great event in lockdown. Val and Mark
Very efficient pick up, safe and well managed.
Had the Society's Love Local Home Dining on Saturday. What a fabulous experience. The food was absolutely delicious and easy to prepare and serve thanks to a great on line video from chef James Freeman. The three society drams included in the price were a great complement to the food. I can say it was the best of several good dine in experiences from the society in the last six months. Sincere thanks to the Queen Street team and keep up the good work.
Fantastic home dining experience from SMWS! From delivery, packaging, quality of food and of course the whisky, everything was spot on. The food preparation tutorial was really useful and the Whisky pairing and cocktail videos were fantastic, gave us a real feel for the atmosphere at the whisky society. By far the best at home experience we have tried and there have been a few! Every course was perfection, cant wait for another occasion to book again.
Absolutely wonderful home dining kit, every bit as good as you'd get in the venue normally. Very well presented and easy to prepare. I would recommend it very highly! Many thanks to James, Sarah, and all of the team, hopefully we'll get to see you all again soon.
Only thing to note, is the helpful instructional video used a much larger piece of venison than was actually received. Left me confused when I opened the box and had to phone in just to check there hadn’t been a mistake
Excellent delivery and home dining experience, with package and cooking instruction video conceptually well put together. The only concern would be the large amount of plastic packaging waste generated by the service. Hard to know how to find a solution to this, given the need to individually seal food items for freshness and health safety, unless packaging can be made explicitly recyclable. However, to reaffirm, a superb home dining experience.
Excellent food, good clear instructions and a wonderful idea for date night!
This was our first experience of Home Dining now that National Delivery is available. It was interesting to see how everything was packaged. One aspect of that was that the venison fillet in the vacuum pack seemed on the small side for two but once it was in the pan, it was clear that it was just right. We loved the starter of black ravioli with langoustine . The venison with all the accompaniments was very good and, while I would never normally choose a chocolate tart, it was delicious. The whisky pairings worked very well. I tried them out of curiosity as I do not usually drink whisky and enjoyed them. The cooking instructions were very clear and the video was helpful. This was important because I have a broken wrist and my husband had to do it all!
The meal was excellent, each course was fantastic. The instructions in both the menu and on the video were clear, easy to follow and faultless. The whiskies that were paired with each course were a joy. The complimentary cocktails were magic and really kicked the evening off with a bang. Best one yet, which is going some.
We've ordered Home Dining meals on and off through the COVID lockdowns and they've been a wonderful treat with excellent food and drink and surprises. Last night's meal was exceptional on all counts. It has lifted our spirits, inspired us to get out the silver, crystal and best china and savour every moment and mouthful. Thank you so much for inspiration in such dark days which is helping us to keep going and look forward to the day we can return to the Vaults and Queen Streets and share the joy with friends and family.
The Valentine menu for two was absolutely fabulous, the dram pairings were spot on and the cocktail was delicious.
The drinks were all top quality. The starter was lovely, easy to prepare and delicious. The duck main course was a huge disappointment. We couldn’t believe the cooking instructions only wanted it cooked for 7 minutes and that we needed every pot in the house to cook it as per instructions. The duck was so raw that it almost quacked and was tough as old boots to cut through. If I was served it in a restaurant I would send it back, instead I had to console myself while I washed all the pots I have ever owned. Would recommend that you find out how most people like their dinner (i.e. cooked) and set your instructions accordingly. Therefore a very expensive drink and starter.
Whiskies were not as nice as they could be
The home food was brilliant.
Another Dine at Home feast. The Smoked Trout starter was superb and retained that unique flavour with the blood orange and puffed red quinoa adding just the right accompaniment. For the main course, the Coffee spiced roast Gressingham duck breast was obviously top level quality and could be cut with a butter knife. So easy to cook. As for the whisky scented gateau opera, that has lasted us 3 days so far, lovely. Accompanying whisky miniatures well appreciated, although I miss the original 50cl measures. Not every menu suits us, but this one really hit the spot.
