About Silk Mill Ale & Cider House
Our British menu takes influence from all four corners of the British Isles, embracing ideas and techniques from Victorian London dining to 70’s retro steak houses, the great British seaside holiday and remote Derbyshire villages where we found long lost family recipes.
Staff were soooo lovely and helpful, honestly couldn’t ask for better customer service and the food was delicious!!
Not bad, hit and miss with the food some dishes are great some not so. Cow pie is brilliant burgers so so
Excellent food and service
The pub and the surrounding area were empty due to the football, so we enjoyed our meal, sitting outside, in what was a relatively quiet atmosphere (barring the occasional cheering from the pub across the road). The food was good, the servings plentiful and the seating area outside was perfect. On this particular day our booking was pointless, but the pub got very busy once the football had finished, and as such I suspect it to be very popular for food on a normal day.
Unfortunately one of my friends suffers from Celiac disease. I put it on the booking prior to arrival just to be sure they knew; however, we still had to ask again when we got there. After the waiter told us everything he could eat that wasn't on the menu and informing us pork had milk in it :s , my friend was informed the squid was ok....turns out it wasn't. He was incredibly ill after it therefore I'm a little disappointed in the service we got considering one of us needed the correct information.I don't think the chefs where informed about my friends requirements by this waiter as I'm sure they would have said something. Unfortunately our impression has been let down by this service. Bar Staff where good though and if you don't suffer from anything food related then it's an ok place for pub grub.
Great food as always
A minor point - it would have been better to be brought a menu each instead of just one for the two of us.
Food was excellent and will definitely come again, was a problem with a beer which made it undrinkable, issue was acknowledged as a problem but IMO it should have been replaced without charge
Lovely food, great selection of beers.
Great ale selection, service excellent, and staff very relaxed and obliging.
Although the Silk Mill is a very atmospheric place and serves great beer, the food was not amazing. Three of the guys I was with wanted the duckies, but there were none on. On a Saturday night! The replacements weren't great. My dad's lamb was tough and the onion rings were really greasy. I think in future we would come for a drink but not food.
Fabulous food again
As a large group of 14 colleagues from various European and African countries looking for a traditional British pub experience, the Silk Mill fitted the bill perfectly! Great food, friendly service and perfect ambience. Thanks for a great night out, just wish I lived in Derby so that I could dine and drink here more often.
Good food and friendly service.
Always great food and good atmosphere. Will be going again when in Derby.
Absolutely brilliant night, staff couldn't do enough for us even though it a was busy night, what ever we asked "no problem" highly recommend The food is 1st rate and not the first time we have been there, very nice menu and actually very different. We'll thought out and reasonably priced, can't wait to go back
Great service, lovely food and nice atmosphere! I would definitely recommend!
Great food, and cider!
Very impressed with the service received through out my booking till the end of the evening. Well done everyone front and back of house :-)
Visited on a Saturday night at the same time as a 21st birthday party at the next table. The lady that served us did her best to provide good service but actually could not cope on her own. She eventually got some help. So I applaud her for an outstanding job and critisize the management team for not recognising the issue and being prepared with a team identified to cover the dining area.
Perfect Sunday lunch, beef perfectly cooked and Yorkshires to die for
Thoroughly enjoyed our meal. First time visiting and will definitely be going again. The service was great- couldn’t be more attentive. Food great and well presented
Good range of cider and beer. Very busy pub but luckily we were in separated off food section. Food okay, nothing special. A friend I was with had plastic in their burger. This was following a neighbouring table finding plastic in their 10minutes earlier. (You would think especially if this had just occurred they would check?!?) Yes he had his money for this meal taken off, but it doesn't make me think the food was any better. Plus, the service was ridiculously slow and the waitress believed it fun to make jokes about the plastic in the meal...very inapproptiate.
The cherry stout was particularly good.
A family celebration get together which you certainly made special. The room (upstairs) was perfect for a small party. The food was great & the two girls who looked after us, Amy & Kylie were outstanding and definitely contributed to making it a wonderful evening. I would certainly recommend you to all my friends. Thank you once again. Mal D
