About Sign of the Angel
Welcome to Sign of the Angel - a 2 AA Rosette awarded 15th Century coaching inn that encompasses the key elements of a traditional Inn - to provide great tasting food and drink in front of large open fires with warm, homely rooms for those staying overnight.
Our inn is located in the National Trust village of Lacock, on the edge of the Cotswolds and only a short distance from Bath. Our Restaurant operates on an ethos of using the best local, seasonal produce and we encourage a relaxed, easy going atmosphere in the dining rooms, which provide the ideal place to settle in and warm up next to the open fires in the winter months.
In the summer months, we have a beautiful garden to enjoy a cream tea next to the stream, along with a paddock which will gradually be able to subsidise the produce for the kitchen.
Groups of 10 or more please phone to make a booking.
Great food, great service and great VFM
Fabulous meal. We both had a fillet steak. Came with Leek Dauphinois and baby courgette, which was a nice change from the run of the mill veg. Great value with the ‘Eat out to help out’ scheme. Highly recommend.
The food was at best disappointing, to begin, the starter, it appears that the phrase' locally sourced' refers to the Sainsbury's cooked chicken aisle which was not quite what I had in mind, moving on swiftly to the main, the port reduction had the taste and appearance of dilute marmite, some might have found this interesting unfortunately I did not .could not comment on the Sweet selection as enough was enough. All in all, it did not go well, which is a shame because it used to be such a good restaurant.
Good experience. Mains - Absolute knock-out. Salmon dish was honestly truly superb. Starters OK. Soup - very small portion size, but understandable. Dessert very good. Service better and much improved. Atmosphere - Music (Robbie Williams) meh... Value for Money - VERY GOOD. Would return.
a very enjoyable sunday lunch in the garden. Excellent service and social distancing being managed nicely.
My wife and I can’t wait for our next visit and hopefully stay at Sign of the Angel! Thank you!
Lovely staff, beautiful setting, a garden that felt like a back garden not a sterile pub garden. The food was AMAZING!
Delicious food and professional service
A wonderful stay - an amazing building, great food and fantastic staff
We were given a really lovely table next to the stream. Ideal for our family for catch up time so we did not disturb others. Staff were excellent with “Covid Rules” so we felt safe and nothing was too much trouble. One of your staff was particularly kind to our small dog, giving plenty of water and dog biscuits twice. He had been washing dishes. Thank you and we will return.
The service was great. The food was rather expensive though. I ordered a Fillet steak and at £26 I would expect to get an 8oz steak If lucky it was 3 ounces and 3/4 of an onion ring. Although they brought out extras between courses it was still rather expensive. The food was nice but no better than that, I probably wouldn’t book there again.
Beautiful setting out in the garden. Food was exceptional. Wait staff professional. Taking. Ovid restrictions seriously
A delightful setting with beautifully prepared food at a sensible price served with a smile.
Wonderful venue , lovely staff a very enjoyable experience x
It’s a little difficult for me to review as in Covid restrictions time. Therefore the dining area is a bit barren with tables not ‘dressed’. However the staff were very helpful and friendly and the food was presented well and tasted delicious. Our room was cute, very clean with good bed linen and towels. Comfy mattress. Shower v good strength. Added bonus it has a guest lounge upstairs which is well furnished and pleasant to relax in.
We ate in the lovely, peaceful garden at the back. Fancied everything on the set and a la carte menus but went for the build your own board, it was perfect. Spoilt for choice on desserts as well. Staff were brilliant. So glad we live locally and can go back soon.
We had a lovely meal, but service was slow and scrappy. It could be because everyone is finding their feet after being closed for a while and therefore we were trying to be understanding. However, empty plates weren't collected, drinks were slow, there seemed confusion.
Always a wonderful evening with exceptional food. Thank you Darren and team.
Superb food in a beautiful setting. Friendly and attentive staff. A wonderful night and a glorious breakfast in the delightful garden. Will definitely be back
Lovely to be back enjoying the delicious food and Historic surroundings
A lovely return to eating out , in this case out in the garden .Staff excellent but not intrusive , friendly welcome . There was a glitch with booking when my e mail inquiry about bringing a dog , & subsequently booking for 2 at 12 outdoors on Sunday became booking for 5 indoors at 12.30 on Sunday - but that was easily sorted on the phone .Great to have you back ,Angel
Very slow service
Good; -Gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options ( disappointingly however most of these with the side dishes of the meat options, which makes veggies feel like they are not worth bothering with) -The Pinot Grigio wine was very nice. - The truffle and mint risotto was delicious as was the salmon dish Bad: - made to feel unwelcome by the manager and it was very difficult to understand what he was saying through his mask and a little bizarre that he was wearing a mask but the waitresses were not wearing any face coverings - ordered a jug of water, which did not arrive and I had to go up to the bar and ask for it. It was tepid and there was no ice or lemon. - The peach crumble with coconut cream was very disappointing. The peach was neither cooked nor ripe, there was no evidence of any crumble apart from what appeared to be little bits of flapjack, and the whole thing was covered in a very burnt tasting brown goo. The white chocolate dessert was not very good either, bland and an unpleasant spongy consistency. - very little ambience and was surprised at the choice of music, not particularly in keeping with a restaurant of this kind. - no bread rolls or butter and nothing offered with the coffee Overall I was very disappointed with our evening as I have very fond memories of the sign of the angel having worked there in my youth and it being one of my parents favorite places to go. I am very sad to say I would not recommend.
We enjoyed our lunch very much. Food was good. We did get served the bread and butter sticky pudding instead of the set menu one. Service was very slow but I guess you were busy. When main course plates were taken away we were not asked if we wanted a sweet. About 1/2 hr later we called a waiter to take sweet order. We would come again as we enjoyed food.
