About Sign of the Angel
Welcome to Sign of the Angel - a 2 AA Rosette awarded 15th Century coaching inn that encompasses the key elements of a traditional Inn - to provide great tasting food and drink in front of large open fires with warm, homely rooms for those staying overnight.
Our inn is located in the National Trust village of Lacock, on the edge of the Cotswolds and only a short distance from Bath. Our Restaurant operates on an ethos of using the best local, seasonal produce and we encourage a relaxed, easy going atmosphere in the dining rooms, which provide the ideal place to settle in and warm up next to the open fires in the winter months.
In the summer months, we have a beautiful garden to enjoy a cream tea next to the stream, along with a paddock which will gradually be able to subsidise the produce for the kitchen.
Groups of 10 or more please phone to make a booking.
Quality of food superb and excellent value for money. Smell of the wood burning fires added to the atmosphere and service excellent too. Really enjoyable lunch and can’t wait to return.
Lovely building with great food in the evening but highly disappointed not to find a TV in room with no mention of this on the website. Staff claim that it’s to preserve the character of the building and experience yet they still have electric heaters and WIFI. Such an omission of facilities deserves a mention before people book at such a price.
Food excellent as usual
Fantastic Sunday lunch and friendly, hospitable staff. I can’t fault our experience and I only wish I lived closer! Thank you for a great lunch!
We had a lovely Sunday lunch - service and food were spot-on! We will return, Thanks Bob & Liz
We love the food at The Sign of the Angel. I would only say perhaps more subtle lighting and some music in the background would have further added to our lovely experience. We will be back!
Amazing place Amazing people Amazing stay
Nothing further to add
Food and service excellent...especially our waiter. Eaten here several times over many years, always good. Kids Sunday Roast is tiny though for the price...should of got another adults.
A wonderful meal, delicious unpretentious food, in a relaxed but very special place. Served by friendly helpful waiters. Highly recommended, will return.
I have been a customer at the Sign since the mid 90's and the last visit was about 2 years ago, and always found it to be a really great place for food and atmosphere. Our experience this time was pretty bad. A long wait to be seated, another long wait to be served, an hour until starters, crammed in a room with 2 large parties making it very noisy, asked for tap water twice and it was not replenished. Food not great. The roast beef was flabby and almost boiled, the belly of pork burnt, but by then we were hungry and fed up and wanted to leave as soon as possible. We also questioned the random 'sorbet' course. Totally inappropriate for Sunday lunch and a pointless additional wait for our food. Really disappointed as we have had many happy times at your restaurant. The only redeeming feature was our waitress who did her best and was friendly and smiling despite the chaos. A couple of drinks were knocked off the bill but really this did not compensate for a pretty awful lunch out, wasted our time and left us feeling fed up and still hungry.
Went here for a family birthday, our third visit. This is a really lovely pub, the wait-staff are lovely, the food is amazing and the atmosphere is great. We would highly recommend. Really appreciate the toddler/children sized portions and the allergy advice too.
This is the third time I have eaten at the Angel in the last three months and the experience is always at a very high standard.
Great food , great venue and great value. Highly recommended.
Lovely lunch at a wonderful restaurant that creaks with character. The pies were truly exceptional! Particularly impressive maitre d'. Welcomes children and dogs. Highly recommended.
A faultless evening, beautiful food, attentive staff and a warm and welcoming environment. As new residents to the area we will most definitely be back!
This was our fifth visit to SOA over the last few years, and I am sorry to say I was a little disappointed. We were one of two large tables, so I appreciate that this would have placed the Kitchen under some strain, however, the food arrived cold, or undercooked, and had to be sent back. The staff were very apologetic and our waitress was particularly attentive - but in general, it just wasn't as polished or slick as previous experiences.
Always tasty and varied food. The regular changes of menu mean more excuses to visit. Good service and a nice atmosphere. Have brought several friends here and they were all impressed.
Good value and well presented
Very friendly pleasant meal
Great quality food at very reasonable prices went for Sunday lunch (suggest you should book as seemed very busy) Limited menu but all of it excellent Bread, Starter, Cleansing Sorbet, Roast Dinner £21 or with Sweet £24 cannot emphasize quality of food
What an excellent evening - thank you!
We were disappointed on several fronts: we were not provided with menus upon arrival, we were not advised of dishes which had sold out when we ordered, substitutes were disappointing and quality of Roast was poor, soup was inedible due to seasoning, no soup spoon provided and no bread to go alongside it and range of desserts was terrible. We did raise this with the manager who was incredibly apologetic and understanding.
We only live a 10 mins drive away but had never eaten here before - we will be again though. We had a beautiful lunch. The staff were really friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Its great to know that Wiltshire has such a lovely restaurant with quality food and drink, locally sourced ingredients and the menu depends on what food is in season.
