Open since 2000, Shu (the ancient Egyptian God of atmosphere) is set in a fine Victorian terrace on Belfast's Lisburn Road.
Furnished in a contemporary style a bright space with lots of natural light, the 90 seater main restaurant has a theatre style kitchen which serves award winning food.
Shu also incorporates a basement cocktail bar, which lends itself to dining at weekends and a private dining room on the first floor.
Great meal, never disappointed
Waiter split a bottle of water on table (and us) yet we were still charged £4.50 for it!! Food was ok but more expensive than comparable restaurants. Good wine list. Decor is scuffed and tired; needs a refresh.
We went for dinner to celebrate a birthday and as usual we were served delicious food by fantastic staff and in a really welcoming atmosphere. I had telephoned during the week to say that it was my husband's birthday and we were delighted when his dessert came out on a decorated plate with a candle 😁. Towards the end of our main course we were approached by management to ask if we would mind substituting our chair (which had arms) for an arm-less chair to help an elderly gentleman nearby, that was struggling to sit upright and comfortably. Not only was it excellent customer service by the manager to think of this on behalf of the gentleman but the manager was so apologetic for interrupting our conversation and bought us a round of drinks as a thank you (which was completely unnecessary as we were happy to swap the chair). Our waitress was a wee gem with a huge smile on her face and took time to make sure we were enjoying our night. After requesting the bill we were delighted to be presented with a champagne flute with a champagne cocktail as a happy birthday present. We had a fantastic night. Thank you all!!
Good value on the 5-11-5 deal, but beware of how the drinks can add to your bill!
Overall excellent lunch formula - not too formal and sensible, well prepared dishes alongside the occasional “luxury” item such as Strangford oysters and delicious calamari. The servers were rather overcome by late entrants during the Saturday lunchtime session so we had to wait some time to know what the deserts were & have our order taken.
Always excellent food, wine and service
Shu is my favourite spot. Great food, service and atmosphere. I come here regularly and would highly recommend it. #bestfoodintown
The food and service were excellent. We experimented with some of the more obscure dishes and were not disappointed. Top notch! Cocktails were a little disappointing, we tried three different ones and they were all rather sharp and although nice, weren’t moreish.
fab as usual
Quality of the food is not in line with the prices. Very basic presentation when you are paying almost £30 for a main. 2 seat tables at the back are on top of each other as well and dining room was uncomfortably hot. Overall very disappointed
Shu has stood the test of time and for all the right reasons.........!
Delicious food at a good price, the staff were really helpful. Definitely recommend.
Great staff - great food n wine - best priced food for the quality, in Belfast One comment - get noise dampening and better temperature controls as it is always noisey on Saturdays and often too warm : its the effect low ceiling/concrete floors I presume.
Lovely food and attentive service. Brilliant!
Swift and personal service from a few. Food perfectly cooked and immaculate on the plate. A great atmosphere and very professional attitude.
Excellent evening.......found it impossible to find fault with the meal..the service etc . everything cooked to perfection. Great buzz too. thanks.
Excellent service particularly from John who identified a light Pinot noir to match both a fish main and a meat main. The cooking of the hake and the wood pigeon was first class
I took business visitors to Shu for an evening meal on a Tuesday night. From late notice booking, through to welcoming us upon arrival, the service was first rate. The staff took time to fully explain the menu and cooking processes to one of my guests who had halal requirements. As a result he had the tuna and black rice which apparently was delicious. The remainder of the party had the salt aged steaks which were exceptional. Again upon closing the meal with coffees, the staff made a “tea” from boiling water and fresh mint leaves for one of my guests, a very thoughtful suggestion. A very successful evening which my overseas guests were still talking about as they left for the airport the following day. Thanks for caring about the details!!
Another fantastic night at Shu, service and food fantastic yet again.
Great as always!
I dine in Shu perhaps once a fortnight in general. Consistently excellent food and service. Julian has a discreet presence and is always very welcoming. I think it’s the best food in town, and it’s particularly fantastic having it on my doorstep.
Lovely meal, fresh food cooked to perfection and fantastic service
Food and service very satisfactory. However interior getting a little tired and would need updated.
