Open since 2000, Shu (the ancient Egyptian God of atmosphere) is set in a fine Victorian terrace on Belfast's Lisburn Road.
Furnished in a contemporary style a bright space with lots of natural light, the 90 seater main restaurant has a theatre style kitchen which serves award winning food.
Shu also incorporates a basement cocktail bar, which lends itself to dining at weekends and a private dining room on the first floor.
Our experience was fantastic. From the initial greeting to the end of service, we felt valued and important. The food was exceptional paired with great wine and a wee cocktail afterwards. Great service by a genuinely friendly and knowledgeable young lady.
Outstanding in every way
Tasty food, ease of booking online, lovely atmosphere
This is the third event we have held upstairs for a large group. Always great & Friday was no exception.
Normally love Shu but my visit during a busy lunch time serving was disappointing. Quality of food was ordinary - I had the pork which was relatively tough. Quantity also, poor, with the vegetarian dish being miserly.
Great food and nice atmosphere, especially for a Tuesday. There isn't a better squid dish in the town.
The food has been wonderful every time we dine here. Well done!
Love it! <3
We were seated downstairs and it was so cold, we asked to move upstairs as we were shivering when our coats were taken but was told we would have to have a drink at the bar until 8.30pm until a table become available despite there being loads of free tables upstairs when we went in. The time between the starter and main was ridiculously long, the waitress (who was lovely) noticed and advised that the chef said 5 mins more on our mains, it was more like 10 mins more on top of the already long wait and when did arrived my husband was at the toilet as couln't wait any longer. They did offer to take back upstairs to keep warm but I said no, it probably wouldn't have come back down by the time I had eaten mine given how the night was going!
Booked online 24 hours ahead and received prompt email confirming detail. Three adults had a fantastic lunch- mixture of specials and main menu. Food was divine. Service has always been good in Shu but even our son commented on their helpfulness and professionalism. We tend to do lunch in Shu - it never lets you down.
Wonderful experience, as always, faultless. No 1 for us.
A wonderful evening in Shu . Great food , fantastic service and down stairs us magical
Superb as always.
Had a great meal with only one relatively minor issue. To start with my wife had the salt and chilli squid which was delicious and I had the chicken liver parfait which was just slightly over ripe around the edges but otherwise perfect. For mains we had the smoked cod and a sirloin steak with a side of champ - fantastic! Service was great and very friendly. We will definitely be back soon!
It was our first visit to Shu and had a lovely evening. The service was excellent and the food delicious.
Food and service were excellent as usual. There were only three other tables being used so obviously the atmosphere was quiet.Typical January
My only slight issue was that the wine was placed in a ice bucket away from the table .which made it hard for us to top up ourselves. That said I think this is an amazing dining experience with I lived closer
Thanks for a very enjoyable evening.
A lovely New Year’s Eve! The menu was outstanding and all dishes excellent. We come here every year at this time and the restaurant never disappoints. The atmosphere is great and the staff first class. Thanks once again!
We had a delicious meal with excellent service and a warm welcome. We booked very late and were on the ground floor where there were few other diners for the first hour of our visit and hence our comment re atmosphere.
Great menu. A little over seasoned for our taste. Brilliant at adapting dishes to take account of allergies.
Superb as always!
Food, drink, Service all great. Access is very tricky: uneven paving, unpredictable camber, door opening outwards - we youngsters were challenged, never mind my 84 year old mum. A downstairs toilet a must for 2020 (present location will soon deter mum -despite Shu still being her favourite)
We have dined a few times at Shu and have always loved the extraordinary dining experience, from the usually flawless presentation of the food, to the personal and expert service by the staff who make every diner feel like they are the most important customers in the restaurant. For us, it was this that always set Shu apart from any other reetaurant. We were disappointed therefore on this occasion to find that although the food was quite ,lovely, the presentation was not up to the usual standard and felt almost slapdash. The personal touches, particularly from staff who were pleasant but who just did not exude that professional expertise that we have very much enjoyed in the past and that always made Shu special and memorable were on this occasion very noticeably missing.
