About Shears Yard
An independent kitchen and bar in Leeds. A contemporary yet relaxed space to meet, socialise, dine & drink.
The Sunday lunch was better than expected I will definitely return the busy buzzy restaurant made for a good atmosphere. Servers were friendly
10/10, would recommend. Full of tatty.
Absolutely delicious! The best roast I’ve had in Leeds!
We rarely get dessert as they tend to be disappointing, however, Shears Yard have managed to buck the trend. We shared 2 desserts which were both delicious (Parkin with black Treacle Icecream & Chocolate Tart with caramelised white choc and plums). Our only suggestion would be to consider a sharing dessert platter (smaller portions, more flavours). A very enjoyable Sunday Lunch. Thank you
Delicious from start to finish! I only marked the service down one star as there was mix up with one of our group's main meal .... besides that exceptional.
I brought family here as a surprise & treat. The service was terrible, miserable waitress who you could tell didnt want to be there at all, no smiles, no polite chit chat, literally just flung our plates at us. One of the starters (duck) tasted just like cat food. Bearing in mind my family are used to eating this type of food so for even them to agree meant it was bad. I found my glass to be dirty/have something stuck on it, the miserable waitress just took it away, didnt apologise and didnt offer me a replacement drink or anything in terms of compensation. When we told her at the end we didnt want to pay the service charge she wasn't paying us any attention and only took off half, only after my brother had already entered his pin & clicked ok did she listen to me saying that amount was not right & she hadnt removed the service charge. Apologising after asking if we wanted a refund. My family & were shocked & appalled by our visit so much we just wanted to leave asap. This is so sad because I, my friends & family are big foodies & eat out regularly. I have dined at your establishment before last year and I can tell you there has been a massive u-turn in quality & effort, not just on staff but on food too. Sadly I would not come here again nor recommend anyone else to either. Complete rip off for the price you pay & quality you expect. I have had better service in McDonalds than we had here.
Atmosphere lovely however food poor and not good value for money
First visit to Shears Yard and it was a real surprise! Fabulous staff who love their food and are only happy when guests love it too. Interesting menu with new& delightful flavour combos. I asked for any non alcoholic cocktail they fancied making and I got an apple& elderflower taste sensation with decoration to match!
Review relates to Sunday lunch.
Sunday lunch was excellent especially the choice of vegetables which were cooked very wed (crunchy)
Great wine pairings. Great friendly service. Enjoyed all the courses except the 1st one but maybe that was just us and we also thought the food would be better set off on lighter crockery to define it better.
Nice flavours, but lacked either the portion size to be good value or the higher quality precision to justify the higher prices. Although the service was good, I also hate an 'assumed' service charge.
Great meal but artichoke a bit tough.! All in all really good quality
Place seemed smaller than on line , but that kept it close and comfortable, without feeling cramped . Staff were very happy and pleasant and offered a good service.
It's the second time I've been here. Service is always friendly and prompt, the menu selection is limited and the portions are very small. The cocktails were poor - coming from a group of us that drink cocktails as our drink of choice on a night out! They were terrible.
Absolutely delicious and inventive food at a really reasonable price. Service excellent and the space is warm and welcoming with an urban edge. It was a Wednesday evening so s bit quiet. Deserves to be busy all the time. This was our second visit and will definitely visit again.
The food was absolutely stunning. Unfortunately the service did not match. We arrived slightly early and sat for a drink in the bar area but had to remind a member of staff that we had booked a table as we were not seated past the time we had booked. We ordered our meals and the starters arrived incredibly quickly. Our waitress failed to inform the kitchen staff that we were ready for our mains which subsequently took a long time to arrive. When they finally came, one of the dishes was not what we had ordered. As we had waited so long, we did not ask the waitress to swap the meal and fortunately it suited dietary requirements. When the bill arrived, we were charged for the meal which was served, despite it being more expensive than the one requested. There was little apology for the mishap and it wasn't until we pointed out this discrepancy that the bill was changed to remove the meal. An honest mistake perhaps, but maybe if the waitress had written our order down this could have been avoided. Also feel that a sincere apology and offer to deduct the incorrect item without being challenged would have left us feeling better taken care of and matched the level of service to that of the incredible food.
The food was delicious and the service was great. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. All round enjoyable meal out.
Made my grandma's birthday very enjoyable - fantastic service and food!
Amazing food and service! Best place to eat in Leeds.
Too loud in there at times... Otherwise good value and lovely food
The food was lovely, great choice on the menu and service was good. Two points to improve. First, print the menu (including drinks) in a bigger typeface so it can be read in the dim light of the bar. I saw people using their phone torch to try and see it better. Second improve the acoustics because it was hard to her our waiter over the background noise and my ears were hurting by the time I left.
Really good food and range of drinks/beers. Really friendly and knowledgeable staff. Tables a little close together making it hard to hear on a busy Saturday night
This was our third visit to Shears Yard in the last year. Very nice three course lunch with some friends of ours who had ever been before. We were all very impressed. Thank you, see you again soon.
