About Shears Yard
An independent kitchen and bar in Leeds, created by the team behind Arts Cafe. A contemporary yet relaxed space to meet, socialise, dine & drink.
Great cocktails, Rabbit starter was fantastic, great main courses, and good service. The restaurant dining room is atmospheric, we will be back!!
I’ve been to Shears Yard a few years ago and had a lovely meal. This time I was really surprised to be disappointed. Both dishes my boyfriend and I ordered were awful. Starters great but mains, not at all. One was the beetroot pearl barley - it just tasted of beetroot, really bland and couldn’t taste anything else (and this is coming from someone who really likes beetroot!). The goats cheese was the saving grace - that’s pretty much all I ate of it. The other was the aubergine dish and it was in our opinion, inedible. It was over smoked and tasted like someone had stubbed cigarettes in it. Really disappointing.
Very noisy afternoon, we had the brunch deal but not much choice of food or drinks, service was excellent but very little atmosphere sadly as we were celebrating two birthdays.
Great service and a wonderful atmosphere to complement the stellar scran
The food was good overall, however, there was limited choice of vegetables and potatoes which is unusual for a Sunday lunch. The Yorkshire Puddings were really good and the Beef was amazing. I was disappointed with the serving staff. I felt they were very uptight and unfriendly as our group attempted to joke with them on a few occasions and they just didn't engage. I would actually use the word stuck-up. It was very disappointing and made a few of our group feel uncomfortable. Whilst the restaurant is a nice place it is not the Ritz and your staff may want to remember that and be more welcoming and friendly. The Bar staff were very friendly so perhaps they could learn from them. Due to this alone I would be quite reluctant to suggest Shears Yard as somewhere to go to others in future.
Laacking a little buzz about the olace however it as 2pm on a sunday afternoon. Yorkshire puddings looked very good.. texture didnt quite live up to the look overall they were good but not stunning for yorkshire
Delicious food, great atmosphere!
We had the Sunday Lunch, food was lovely and the wine was nice. Atmosphere in the restaurant was relaxed and thoroughly enjoyable.
Incredible service, food and atmosphere. Great deal with the Eat Leeds week voucher. Coming back this week with some work colleagues as was so impressed.
We arrived to an empty restaurant and told we could sit anywhere. Although the booking was for 2 we requested a table for 4 rather than looking at a wall. Were told the restaurant was fully booked and we questioned in the next 2 hours?. We weren't happy but accepted the decision, left 2 hours later and there were only 8 tables eating and the rest still remained empty! Asked for tooth picks after main course they didn't arrive until we asked a second waitress who apologised. Although the service was on the whole quite good the personality of the taller waitress lacked warmth and the earlier decision re seating annoyed us. Don't like the hard chairs, a killer on my back, please invest in some cushions.
Food was fantastic, staff were really friendly and attentive will definitely be coming back.
Couldn't fault the service, the drinks were topped up as soon as they were empty. Food was tasty just wish there had been a little more choice.
Amazing food. Great service. A bit heavy on the air conditioning and it was a bit quiet. Defo go again though!
Really lovely food - but the portions were maybe a little smaller than we expected for brunch, and were all a bit hungry sooner than anticipated! However, the 'bottomless' part of it was great, and the wait staff were brilliant at asking if you wanted a top up :D
A really nice space, with great food and service. And the portions are generous too, unusual for an establishment of this quality. Both my partner and I were quite full by the end! Highly recommended.
We had a great evening. Delicious food and great service. Will definitely be back.
The food was excellent - it's clear that your chef has a real passion for food and also a lot of knowledge about flavours which is wonderful to see. The service was also brilliant and the staff coped really well with gluten intolerance. I'm already looking forward to a return visit!
Excellent meals and service, very pleased and highly recommend this venue.
Great location, setting and décor. Interesting and varied menu, something for everyone. Despite bringing soda for my wine instead of lemonade (quickly swapped out) and no toilet roll in one of the ladies toilet, everything went smoothly with attentive staff. We thoroughly enjoyed the food on our first visit.
Sunday lunch menu a bit limited but the food is generally of good quality. I've eaten here a few times and always found the service to be good with nice, friendly staff. Drinks prices are fair, but there are better options for Sunday lunch in Leeds. That said, still a pleasant place to eat and will definitely return.
We had a great time st Shears Yard. Only comments would be that the bigger tables tended to have more attentive service and refills, and some of the food portions were a bit small compared to others (the mushrooms on toast and eggs on toast in particular). Overall very good experience.
Food and service were excellent.
Couldn't asked for better service - we were late to our reservation but staff were still very accommodating! thank you very much.
Excellent meal as always!
We will definitely be back. Service couldn’t have been better. Food was unreal and the value for money was top notch. Thanks
