About Saorsa 1875
We’re all about sharing great food and good times. With an ever evolving menu inspired by our travels and delivered using local, ethical ingredients, we’re on a mission to prove that delicious food doesn’t have to come at the expense of animals or the planet. All our food is organic and sourced either from our garden or from local farms.
We offer nightly supper clubs and invite all diners to share their meal and their stories at our communal dining area. We offer one dinner service per night and the menu is a 5 course set menu which changes daily.
We were delighted with the quality and presentation of the food. The service was lovely and the setting is elegant.
My partner and I had a great weekend stay at Saorsa. Our 16 week old puppy was with us and the staff at Saorsa were so welcoming and went above and beyond, setting up a private dining area to allow us to have the puppy with us at meal times. The 5 course tasting menus were amazing and the chef was so polite and willing to dicuss the meals with you and allow you to ask any questions. We will 100% be visiting again.
Excellent Vegan establishment that would be brilliant for non-vegans to experience as well. The quality of the food was excellent, and staff/service were excellent. We happened to be in when the chef was trialling a new ramen dish with fermented mushrooms which in one word was “awesome”. We only stopped by for lunch but would definitely like to stay for a few nights as the hotel looked great. Only thing I would say is the prices were a little high in relation to portion sizes however, I can understand with the type of restaurant/standard you are clearly pushing for. Would happily return when next in Pitlochry.
The food was enjoyable, and interesting along with a very good service. Felt the cost was slightly expensive when compared to similar venue's. However would consider eating at the venue again.
A very special place. The food was incredible.
Finally visited after wanting to for so long and it was definitely worth the wait. Everything was amazing, the food, the vibe and the staff. Will definitely be back
Food was absolutely beautiful. Burger is fantastic and the pumpkin pie dessert was such a treat - a sort of pumpkin purée, chocolate crisp, lemon gel and blackcurrant granita - amazing! Only downside was that we had to sit in a separate dining room as we brought our dog for lunch so we didn’t get the atmosphere of the main dining room, but that comes with the territory of owning a dog so no complaints! Will definitely be back next time I’m passing through Pitlochry.
We had a super stay at Saorsa and would love to visit in the future. The hotel is full of interest, books , magazines , interior decor etc and has a relaxing ambience. Good shower in the room and very comfy bed. Perfect. The food was artistry on a plate. Delicious and healthy.
Relaxing ,quiet and peaceful break with totally delicious food. Recommend to everyone. Vegan food was wonderful and best of all no thought required- you can everything:D Duvet and pillows were the best ever. Very comfortable
Excellent food. Clean and comfortable room and in a good location to stroll in Pitlochry. I intend to visit again or recommend to friends.
lovely meal in a lovely setting
Have dined here three times now, each time has been superb. Menu changes daily, using fresh locally grown and/or foraged produce and you can tell in the dishes the quality of ingredients is incredible. Every dish is fantastic in terms of technical execution, presentation, flavour and creativity. It is obvious the team at Saorsa really care about what they are serving to their guests. Service is always impeccable too. A must-visit for vegan fine dining.
The venue is lovely and the service was friendly and attentive. The atmosphere in the bar area was cosy but unfortunately we were moved to the snug to eat where we were on our own. This was probably to accommodate social distancing which can’t be helped but it meant we felt isolated. I thought the food was very tasty but I was disappointed that the 2 choices for mains were “fish” or vegan burger when every other restaurant in the village had a vegan burger on offer (and to be honest this is the only option in most places usually). I would have hoped for something more imaginative in a vegan specialist restaurant. My husband had the “fish” which he enjoyed. I had the vegan burger just to compare to what I normally get and it was nice but nothing special. The chips, however, were amazing. I would definitely come back but if it was for lunch I would just have one of the light bite choices as they were a bit different and definitely another Highland Tears cocktail.
Had an amazing lunch at Saorsa 1875. Food was delicious, service is super friendly (especially Roxy and Lizzie), and they have excellent Covid safety measures in place - hand sanitiser on entry, staff wearing masks, guests seated in separate rooms as much as possible. It was a flying visit but the gardens also look lovey and we’ll be back in the future to stay.
I had the beautifully presented, seasonal, taster menu. Couldn't pick a favourite because I loved everything. I'll definitely be back.
Dinner was exceptional. Breakfast was underwhelming and unless you like oats you are hungry. Heating in room was not optimal, we were cold. Dinner was exceptional.
Hi Alex, Thank you for your feedback! I'm glad you enjoyed dinner. We are very lucky to have some very talented chefs, and they do create exceptional meals! I'm very sorry you did not feel able to tell us that the heating was too low for you, as of course we could have turned it up. It is adjustable at the radiator in the room. We do have a range of options for breakfast including bread and pastries from a local bakery, our homemade beans on toast, and fresh fruit smoothies, so I am sorry if this was not enough for you. I hope if you return to visit us you will be able to try some of these options!
I came with my daughter for a birthday celebration on September 20th. We booked one of your most expensive rooms, Red Deer and were informed upon arrival that we would be in an "overflow" dining room with another couple. When we were called for dinner everyone but us was ushered to the main dining room and we found ourselves alone in a freezing room. I know that at least one other group of diners were not resident in the hotel that night and would question why we paid £300 to eat alone in a back room? The food was superb as was the service but I would like an explanation as to how you felt it appropriate to treat a guest who had paid this amount to stay for the night with such disregard. Later that evening I pulled the curtains before bed and the whole curtain rail collapsed on the floor . It was a cheap white plastic rail of very poor quality. To summarise, you have a chef there who understands food and is absolutely excellent . I would have no hesitation paying £50 a head for the food but the fact that I paid another £200 to sit in a cold room and listen to the chatter and laughter from the dining room before retiring to my "suite" where the curtains literally fell off the wall is beyond insulting.
Hi Annie, I’m very sorry to hear that you were unhappy with your dining room during your stay here. Due to social distancing, we have had to cut the number of people who can be seated in our dining room from 22 to 14. We have therefore started using our private dining room to seat people as well, something that all our guests have been very understanding of. Our private dining room is normally a very popular room; we have many guests who specifically ask to be seated there. I know that my colleague spoke to you on the night and, as far as she was aware, you were happy to be seated there. I am sorry as well that you did not feel able to raise with us that you were cold, as of course we would have been able to adjust the heating for you. It was not at all our intention to make you feel disregarded; again, this is a room that we normally have people request to sit in. I am also sorry you did not feel able to let us know that the curtain in your room had been pulled down. We have not had a problem with this curtain before. I did almost contact you regarding this, as I thought you may not have mentioned it while checking out as you were concerned about being charged for damages. I wanted to reassure you that we would not have charged you for this. We were able to have someone attend very quickly and repair it. I’m very glad you enjoyed the food, and I will pass your praise on to the chef. She does a fantastic job, and we are very lucky to have her. I hope that if you ever should come back to enjoy the food again, the rest of the experience will match the quality of the food.
Very much enjoyed our second stay at Saorsa 1875. Covid 19 protocols made for a safe environment without it feeling obtrusive. Fantastic food and staff were friendly and helpful, though chat was obviously a bit compromised on account of the protocols (masks in particular).
Hi Graham, Thank you very much for your feedback! The masks do take some getting used to, but we are glad that you enjoyed your stay regardless. We will hope to see you back again in the future.
The hotel was a beautiful building, our room was a good size and the bed was the best thing about it, it was huge and comfortable. However we were very disappointed when we took a shower, it was a trickle of water, barely strong enough to wash in, which was such a shame as the bathroom was huge and gorgeous. The lighting in the room was very poor and the view looked out onto the road so if we wanted privacy we had to be in semi darkness. We were also disappointed in the breakfast, it was very restrictive with no hot food to have. I was expecting an option of a delicious and vegetable heavy full breakfast but all we got was porridge and a croissant. The dinner itself was lovely and we would go back again for an evening meal but not to stay in the hotel given the price of it.
Hi Ellie, Thank you for your feedback! We agree, the hotel is a beautiful building. We are very lucky to have it. I am sorry that the shower was not strong enough for your liking. The hotel has only been open for a year, during which time we have been upgrading all the bathrooms. Unfortunately this work has been disrupted by COVID and the lockdown. I hope that if you return you will find this improved. Our rooms do have different outlooks, depending on their position in the building, and this is something we take into consideration when pricing the room. We do have several options available for breakfast, including overnight oats, smoothies, beans on toast, and a selection of bread from a local bakery, so I apologise if you felt this wasn't enough. We generally avoid using 'fake meat' products here as we prefer to focus on healthy, nutritious foods that we can make and prepare ourselves. Thank you again for your feedback, and I can assure you that your comments will taken on board.
A phenomenal tasting menu. Interesting and fun to experience. The price tag reflects the time and expertise in preparing beautiful flavours. The atmosphere was calm, organized and professional. The other diners appeared relaxed. The temperature of the dining room was a wee bit low. Tolerable and not uncomfortable - hence there being no need to raise the issue. However, a degree or so higher would not have raised our awareness. My wife was sat closest to the door so may have been more exposed to a lower temperature. We would consider returning another time to experience the creativity of the chef.
Amazing hotel, and outstanding food. Detail is to the highest of standards. This was a 5 course tasting menu. If your looking for the vegan curious experience this is for you. Friendly staff and a rather nice relaxed atmosphere.
Good vibe, food was amazing.
Best vegan food we have ever had! (and we have been to many vegan restaurants so far!) It was a bit disconcerting that one of the people serving us did not wear their mask but had it dangling off their ear. Could you remind your staff of the regulations? We will be back for certain!
The food was outstanding in flavour but I would have liked a tiny bit more of each course, as I didn’t feel full. The room was lovely and our cake was delicious, staff were all helpful!
Fabulous Quirky and luxurious hotel. Really warm lovely Staff And food was so delicious and tasty! Can’t recommend highly enough! Already looking forward to our next visit.
