About Rye & Soda
BREAKFAST & BRUNCH RESTAURANT
TAPAS BAR & RESTAURANT
I was very much looking forward to coming, but was pretty disappointed with the whole experience. Our drinks were lovely, but the food was pretty ordinary and in some cases sub standard. I had the eggs benedict type dish on rye, the bread wasn’t toasted and the poached eggs were hard yolked which is just a total poached egg sin! My friend had a burger with gluten free bread - great to have the option but her bread was toasted with no butter or mary provided and it was pretty dry. The service was a bit perfunctory, and a guy was setting up a gin tasting right next to us which made it feel pressured to get out quick and made it hard to hear also. Nothing was totally terrible - it just wasn’t up to the good reviews I’d heard. I wouldn’t really go back as I can get nicer brunches elsewhere for less money.
You definitely need to update your menu. On the website it says that you have a mashed avocado sandwich which is suitable for vegans but when I came there was absolutely no sandwich suitable so I had to adjust the one with curried chickpeas. the chef did not give me anything extra to make sure it corresponds with the price so it was just a plain bread with a handful of chickpeas and I still paid £9 very disappointed and probably not coming back anytime soon
Have been here a number of times and always had a positive experience until Saturday. Service was slow, wine warm and we all ordered the same dish however my friend got no chicken in her salad
Food was lovely. Compliments to the chef on the duck.
We Enjoyed our brunch
We’ve been to Rye & Soda on a number of occasions and the food has always been ok / good but the service has always been poor. We decided to give Rye & Soda one last chance on Friday and we were all thoroughly disappointed. To start, the new deli menu was confusing and expensive for what we got. One of our delis was served on a plate and the other on a wooden board which meant chasing food around a flat surface and onto the table. The delis were served a good few minutes after the warm food, which meant the warm food had cooled by the time the deli plates arrived. We actually had to chase the deli plates as we thought they’d been forgotten about. We asked for coffee and cake after the main meal, again, the pastry was served straight away. The coffees came quite a while after the pastry was served and then we had a to wait a long while for the custard tart. We chased the tart as our coffee was getting cold and were told that the kitchen were still making the tart! When it eventually arrived, it clearly hadn’t been made in the kitchen as it was cold, our coffees were cold and the pastry had been eaten. We couldn’t understand why the dishes couldn’t have been served at the same time? It makes the whole eating / socialising experience awkward. To top it off, we were charged £2 for a pastry that I could buy in a supermarket for about 30p and £6 for a custard tart!!! I asked for the custard tart to be removed from the bill, which they did. But I still got charged for the extra coffee we ordered as our first round of coffees had gone cold by the time the desserts came!
Arrived at 12.30. 3 other tables in so very quiet. ordered 4 breakfast dishes. Waited over an hour then had to leave as we were attending a graduation ceremony nearby. Didn’t get to eat anything as our food had not arrived in that time. Appalling service considering how quiet it was.
Excellent food and friendly service. The lighting inside is a little bit dark, but on a sunny day you can sit outside, which is lovely.
Fathers day brunch was excellent and service was prompt. Only little gripe was leaving glasses on the table
Service was very slow. Didn’t get drinks until food came and had to go to bar to ask for cutlery. One of the chips didn’t arrive until asked for. Waiting staff didn’t seem that interested and not even that busy on a Saturday lunch time. I’ve had a much better experience before so was a little disappointing.
Excellent pre-theatre experience - highly recommended! We will definitely be back!
Web site has old menu on it so booked expecting Larger menu.
Menu has changed and not really any snack type things anymore which is a shame.
We came for a club dinner and we had a large busy table which your staff dealt with admirably. The food was delicious and we shall be back!!! Also no problem with folk going up and saying what they had eaten and had to drink and paying their own bill We shall be back
Please don’t use cheap ketchup
Friendly staff, good food and service.
My family and I came to Rye and Soda for Lunch on Mother's Day, and we were not disappointed. We received friendly service and there was only a small wait in-between everyone receiving their food. Would recommend and will be back! :)
Went to Rye & Soda for brunch and was not disappointed. In Aberdeen it is so hard to find a good quality breakfast but Rye & Soda is perfect, lovely food, great service and use local produce as well as having an AMAZING PEACH TEA! You pay for the great quality you get! Would highly recommend and will definitely be back!
We had originally reserved a table for Tapas & Cocktails at Bos'n Bar but apparently they no longer offer this so we moved downstairs to Rye & Soda
I’ve enjoyed previous meals at Rye & Soda however the quality of the food on Saturday was disappointing.
Great Gin selection, love the partnership with MELT
We booked a table for 6 for brunch. When we arrived our table was a table for 4 with an extra bit shoved on the end and two additional chairs. This meant two of the party were squashed up either between the table and the wall or between our table and the next table. The coffees were great, the food was a mixed bag - the full Scottish was good but the pancakes were very tough and chewy and our huevos rancheros arrived without any avocado and we had to complain to get some. The menu here looks really great and there is a lack of good brunch spots in Aberdeen so I was excited to try here - but I was disappointed by the quality of some of the food.
Very mixed review unfortunately. Food was really good and the staff were friendly however they managed to miss one food order, get another food order wrong, they ran out of the beer we were drinking after 4 cans and although having an extensive gin list they didn't have a large number of the ones we asked for. Overall just a little disappointing.
