Good food & friendly service as always. Would be great to have a few outdoor heaters though especially for very chilly nights! Looking forward to visiting again when it gets a bit warmer ! Or when we are allowed to sit inside !
Ale’s & drinks always good. Menu has got much more interesting and our lunch was great.
The ale and the food are excellent and the chicken pie was pretty authentic with a little bone and some skin but tasty
One of my friends recommended this place so this was our first time. We were very happy with everything
Fantastic service and no problem with booking - outside table and we ate early, food good. Disappointed that the menu has remained the same for so many years, also that the tables and seating were very rickety. Not a cheap pub eatery but we knew that.
Always a friendly, warm welcome
The whole visit including the beer, wine & food exceeded my expectations, even the night time temps cooperated. Staff were excellent. one thing wrong, I ordered a dish of fish and prawn gratin, it should have come with creamed spinach however I got cabbage. great menu. Recommended.
Celebrating my birthday at last after lockdown, a perfect place for a get together with friends.
Don’t waste your time. Terrible overpriced food in a car park. It feels like arriving at the kind of tourist trap you get caught out by on holiday. It is essentially that, riding on its status as the oldest pub, they have done little else. I could not recommend it less.
Disappointing that the wait-staff were not wearing masks. The tables were also a little close together in places, so we didn’t feel entirely comfortable under the current circumstances. Part of the fish, in the fish and chips was inedible but thankfully the person who ordered this still felt they had enough to eat. We are unlikely to book again until COVID-19 is further under control.
Given they were very busy on a sunny Sunday the team coped admirably and the food (roast dinners) was spot on.
Busy on the first weekend back to real life, but friendly and efficient service, and well-kept cask ales
Our waitress was lovely but kept disappearing and unfortunately we had to wait almost 40mins for the dessert. Otherwise food was great and we love coming here so would visit again. I would say that this type of service is unusual as in previous visits the service has been excellent. It was the first weekend post lockdown so it was understandably busy.
Excellent Service
Spend a lovely Sunday with my peeps there! Service was brilliant, so friendly and smiling! Beautiful Sunday Sun day!
Lovely roast thank you!!
The service and atmosphere was excellent. Food was very nice and reasonable price. Waitress was very attentive but without being overbearing. Would definitely recommend and cannot wait to return 😀
The best country pub around by far
So nice to see you back open! Lovely lunch, great chips, fabby waitress - only comment is 20 mins wait for drinks to arrive, and then with no corkscrew for the wine which was another 15 mins coming! The food arrived before the corkscrew...
Lovely roast meal. We had one guest requiring Gluten free & the choice was amazing 🤩
We had a lovely afternoon, thank you 😁
It took a long time to get served.
Considering it was the first weekend after lockdown I thought the service was great! It was extremely busy but the servers were super friendly and attentive. There were some delays and some of the food was colder than should be, but considering the garden was fully booked this could be forgiven! It was great to be welcomed back to normality by the pub and I would highly recommend visiting!
1st visit since lock down and the staff were fantastic, the food was great as always only thing missing was the Welsh rabit off the starter menu. But we will be back again v soon!
We struggled a lot with being seated on a table actually outside of the garden walls and facing away (having booked in advance), seeming to spend most of our time trying (and usually failing) to attract the attention of a member of staff and often feeling as though we'd been forgotten about as other customers were obviously being served before us.. I appreciate that it was very busy but please consider removing this table if you aren't able to service it effectively! Also found the food and drink extremely pricey, only one cider option and we initially had an additional meal added to our bill (even though there were clearly only two of us!), though this was removed when I pointed it out along with a few pounds extra as a gesture of goodwill, which was appreciated.
