Root is a small independent restaurant, with a terrace overlooking Bristol’s harbouside. The restaurant is part of Wapping Wharf, and is made of shipping containers.
All extremely friendly and was good at suggestions for plates
Outstanding food - loved the fact that every small plate had a different set of flavours. And knowledgeable andhelpful service. Only complaint was it did get hard to hear ourselves as the various tables started to get their drink down! Need a bit more sound absorbing material somewhere in the "box"?
Food was amazing, atmosphere great. Wonderful place, will be back and will recommend to others
Amazing evening. Food was brilliant and service was great.
Delicious food, local produce and unusual combinations that work well. Very convivial atmosphere.
Absolutely amazing food and atmosphere. We had a wonderful time. All the dishes were very creative and super good. The gnocchi was one of the tastiest dishes I have ever had! Service was great as well and the whole vibe was fun. Unforgettable. Will definitely come back next time we’re in Bristol.
Root is our favourite restaurant! The staff are always lovely and attentive. The food is incredible! Always leave room for dessert!
Wonderful service with great advice on which dishes to go for. Very impressed, we look forward to coming back!
The staff were so friendly and welcoming, even when we were really late for our booking! The food satisfied my parents who are snob meat eaters, and me (loves her veggies!), and the doughnut was a total winner. I’d heard great reviews from friends but this was the first time I’d been and it was amazing. Will definitely be coming back to sample the rest of the menu!
Excellent food! We will be back. You just need more seating! Maybe comfier seating? I will try and get a padded bench by the window next time.
Fantastic food...we will be back!
Food and drink was fabulous. Frustratingly, although we had booked, we weren't able to sit outside and had to sit inside. We were the only people inside for the majority of our meal, so the atmosphere was lacking. We were also told we would be moved outside if tables came free, however when people left, other people - I assume walk-ins - were seated outside. We would have had a couple more drinks after our meal, had we had the chance to sit outside. I understand the cargos are big tin boxes, but really, it was too hot to sit inside on the evening we went - it did detract from the meal unfortunately. It was busy, but service wasn't great. We had to wait quite some time before being seen for ordering (both food and drink). Value for money was quite good and next time I book, if it's during a heatwave, I'll specify about sitting outside.
fabulous food, amazing service
We had 5 plates for lunch between the two of us. The tomato consommé, beetroot and blackberry were really well balanced with strong individual and combined taste and feel. The chicken was disappointing - not sure what was in the coating but it didn’t work for me. This wasn’t helped by the chicken being too ‘chewy’ The hake dish, on special, was again excellent. The fish was obviously fresh and beautifully cooked the pea and the sauce were also tasty and really complimentary. We tried to book again whilst at the table - unfortunately no spaces left for us. We will still be back.
So good to have a menu where the plant-based dishes take centre stage and the meat and fish dishes are marginal.
Delicious meal and great service
Lovely service and food nice, but a bit pricey. £90 with tip and wine is more expensive than our usual (good food guide recommended) restaurant.
Fabulous food, with stunning flavours only matched by the brilliant staff. Our server was just fantastic, made our evening even better!
Food was innovative and interesting. Really amazing. Great atmosphere although background music was a little loud we struggled to hear each other speak. Staff friendly and attentive. I’m gluten free, menu had ample choice however, it would have been nice to have been able to order gluten free bread. Other restaurants in Wapping wharf cater for gluten free diets in tents of providing bread.
Amazing food and lovely friendly staff. I would have preferred a small gap between some dishes as the food came out pretty quickly However what arrived was delicious, overall a thoroughly enjoyable meal, we will definitely be going back.
Great service and lovely food The only thing is the seating could be more comfortable but overall a very enjoyable meal
This was a great evening. The views are well suited, service was fantastic. I’ve not eaten food as good as this for a long time. Best meal I’ve eaten in the UK for years. I’d truly say this is a Michelin star quality restaurant! Can’t wait to return!!!!
Absolutely delicious food and excellent service. Not the cheapest meal out but not too expensive either and definitely worth it considering the quality of the food.
we had a great evening. lovely food made and served by people who clearly know what they're doing and love doing this. a def. must-go!
