The 5 course meal was delicious, and perfectly presented. The highlight of our evening was our waitress, unfortunately i can not remember her name, but she explained the courses and the flavours to us, and attended to all our needs as required. She was extremely pleasant and a bonus for Restaurant 81.
Presentation and flavours of every course were outstanding
Service and the way we were accommodated was excellent! I didn't think there was any thing special about the atmosphere. The food was not as i had hoped for... Course by course... Green ants - really da's just overpowered by pineapple Green spring - refreshing but lacks punch Crab pie - nice but too salty Crumbed clam - was nice, my mother wanted actual clams Scallop ceviche - nice (very small) Kangaroo - under seasoned Snap crackle pop - too salty Pork jowl - under seasoned.. Needed more texture Crocodile bone marrow - this was not a good dish. No one in our table liked it and it left a very bad after taste. Even our waitress did it was an acquired taste and that most people don't finish it. You would think this would be a sign to remove the course. Lamb - was the best. Wish there was more LLB - fantastic Burnt earth - was also nice. One comment was "not sure orange goes with pistachio" We were very pleased with the meal only because we had accor card and it was $80. But if I had paid $160 I would have been extremely disappointed with portion sizes and tastes. When a degustation says 12 courses.. You don't expect such small "snack" courses. Thanks!
Loved every minute the attention to detail was sublime
The 12 course degustation was a journey that sometimes pleased, sometimes amazed. The food was often”out there” which made for a great adventure. The matching wines were all excellent. Unfortunately for us the preconception that a Tuesday night would be quiet was not to be. There was a large group of men ( maybe 60 of them) who were there to discuss the food and enjoy themselves. They had a big brass bell that they rang between courses and they conversed very loudly. It made for a very uncomfortable experience for us, but you can’t deny the good business to Sam Moore. Without the hours of noise it would have been brilliant.
The service is above and beyond. Entertainment plus a sense of humor. We were very impressed.
Amazing! We LOVE the dinner!
The food was fairly average for fine dining experience. The entree was very simplistic and the same could have been done with cucumber water. The lamb looked ok but was chewy and lacked any flavour. The lemon lime dessert was a bit unusual but the plating was odd, with only one third of an extremely large plate covered. Pork jowls were tasty We were also caught out with room81 not taking Accor members rewards on Saturday.
Fantastic food and service, great experience
Very ordinary for the extravagant price!
Outstanding dining experience. The food was delicious and unlike anything I have had previously. Sam Moore’s creativity and use of native ingredients is in a similar way to that of Ben Shewry at Attica. Will definitely come back and can highly recommend room81
Amazing experience start to finish, The staff were amazing the food was amazing we dine out a lot But this was the best we have experienced in a long time. If you are on the coast or a local like us this should’ve No 1 on your list
Always a very interesting menu. To tell or friends we had green ants in a pineapple pop or a crackling snail off a small bush gives us an edge; not to mention the Scotch Eggs. Thanks for a great night of food.
Loved the 12 course degustation
Disappointing - we expected next level dining experience but all aspects were rather average. We chose the 5 crse Degustation which was creative but missed the mark of High Distinction and memorable on every course except the dessert -LLB- well done Chef! Each course seemed to lack an element to raise the taste buds and mind to next level. Extensive wine & cocktail list, we enjoyed our Pinot Grigio from King Valley Tasmania. Started in the lounge bar with cocktails unfortunately the Bloody Mary was overloaded with a Curry rimmed glass - so over powering the taste lingered into the meal. Waitstaff presented courses with knowledge and clarity but a sense of contrite duty prevailed rather expression of comfort and passion. The opportunity to make your mark exists here but is sadly missed at the moment - I think you can do it with a little more effort and thought about the customer experience.
Had the 12 course degustation with matching wines. Was VERY disappointed. I've eaten a lot of degustations in my time at varying restaurants around the world and was really keen to try this one. I get where the Chef was trying to go with it all - but it wasn't a crowd pleaser. We were the only table of two in the restaurant on a Sat night. There was one other table of girls who were on a night out - but let's be honest they weren't there for the food. To be the only table of two in there on a sat night is a tell tale sign for me. The guy can cook - there's no doubt about that, but this is simply the wrong menu for this restaurant. ANDDDD - totally get the Australiana theme - but WHY match with international wines?? Doesn't make sense to me. We actually couldn't eat a few of the dishes (and that's saying something for me.
Simply superb!!! Like no other dining experience before, food pleasure taken to an entire new level.
Food disappointing and some of it sickening, too many deep fried items, 5 sweet dishes, bread not great and weird things on the menu that are not pleasant to eat. I had high expectations and I would never recommend to go there unfortunately. I think the chef should focus more on what customers would like to eat rather than trying to make weird things taste good and making them uninspired to eat the food. More meat and vegetables would be good and fresh delicate meals would be better. Some of the menu items I did not want to eat more than 1 bite. A few of the menu items were good but nothing I would want to eat again especially when you have 12 courses. Desserts were not bad the lemon dessert was pretty good. I do not usually write bad comments but $160 for such an underwhelming degestation, I prefer to drive to Brisbane for an amaizing dineing experience, shame because I was hoping to be able to dine locally
Our dinner was good but expect my daughter steak was full of blood after telling them well done which put her off her meal and could not eat with the family after waiting for new one to be cooked but dinning there for lunch the next day was amazing
Fantastic service from an extremely knowledgeable Laeticia.
Beautiful fine dining experience
Great food and service. A real find!
