About Rookery Hall Hotel & Spa
The Restaurant at Rookery Hall is renowned for its 2 AA Rosettes and is perfect for modern British food. To us, dining is all about taking excellent local ingredients and preparing them with care, creativity and respect – we believe the results should be as tasteful as the surroundings. Rich wood panelling and decorative latticework adorn the walls and ceiling, whilst large bay windows offer stunning views of the grounds and countryside beyond.
Head to the Drawing Room to put up your feet with a good book, freshly brewed coffee or light lunch. By day, the room affords peaceful views across the grounds and by night it is a cosy place to unwind, not least because of the open fires. It is the perfect place for sampling our afternoon tea, featuring homemade scones, fruit cake and, for some extra sparkle, a glass of Champagne.
Arrived slightly early. Maitre d said OK introduced us to our server, but was walking away from us so didn't catch her name. Shown to table, asked if we wanted tea or coffee, no introduction to the 12 teas available, she brought us water, asked about our dietary requirements, we relayed again as per our email booking and our telephone discussion the previous Friday. Afternoon tea arrived no comment as to specialist teas, my wife ordered a green tea. I asked about our champagne, she asked me if now or later, I asked for now, a good thing I did, because she never came to our table again in the 2 hours we were there. There was a shift change as we were finishing Caitlin was the only member of the team who asked if we wanted more tea or hot water. We paid our bill even that was incorrect, champagne teas being £35 each and not £36.50 we were charged. May I suggest that you send your staff to Harvey Nicks Manchester to see how the introduction and service is done with style. Why do you have macaroons on the menu but not a macaroon on sight?
Came for afternoon tea with my mum and it was gorgeous , lovely atmosphere, the dining room is beautifully decorated. The food was absolutely stunning!! We will definitely be back. Thank you so much to everyone
Daughter booked this as a Christmas present - nice idea! Catered to my allergy requirements really well.
Both of my side plates were dirty. The replacements were also dirty and I felt too embarrassed to ask for new ones again so used my saucer. Venue is BEAUTIFUL. Service is okay and staff pleasant but they said maybe 15 words to us in 2 hours so don't really see how that warrants 10%. Food is nice, not amazing. We both felt the afternoon tea could include a bit more savory and only 1 scone each. 4 scones between two is more than we could handle and I LOVE sweet things. Champagne was very very nice, I wish we knew what we'd had. Overall, worth the £40 I paid because it was 241 and a nice experience in a stunning venue. Wouldnt have been happy paying £40 each. I'm sorry if this review sounds too critical, I don't mean it to be. I would go again on a 241.
We were sat down and was sat at the table for around 10/15 minutes without someone coming over to even ask if we would like any drinks. We had to ask a waitress if we could order food and drinks. We both went for the steak and when it came we asked for steak knives. To be left waiting for around 10 minutes to see if they had any whilst our food was going cold in front of us. To then be told they had none. We then had to eat our steak with a blunt knife. Whilst eating this one of the managers came over to explain they had ordered steak knives for new year and they had all gone missing. During him saying this you could feel all the tables go quiet around us to listen in. When we then went down for breakfast the next morning we were sat down and my partner stood on half a champagne flute which I presume had been dropped the night before. Again we were waiting for around 25 minutes for our breakfast order to be taken.
The hotel is lovely but seemed a little understaffed.
Afternoon tea was lovely and was the best we've had in Cheshire :-)
A family get together at Rookery Hall. Without exception , all nine adults were impressed by the standard of the food served for dinner. A fabulous evening away.
Vegetarian starter poor, rest of meal excellent.
Great service, lovely fresh food in beautiful surroundings. This is just a general comment and no reflection of the food received on the day (afternoon tea) because it was really lovely - I just think for something different it would be nice to maybe have the choice to increase the amount of savoury food and reduce the sweet stuff.
Delicious meal of oc cheek which was slow cooked & delicious. My sister had the chicken one night & then fish & chips which was delicious!
Food and service were impressive, no delays at all. Food was delicious, fresh and hot. We really enjoyed all meals during our stay!

Helen who looked after us made it a very special experience. The room was decorated beautifully for christmas and enhanced the atosphere and whole experience. An 80th birthday meal that will be remembered. Thank you
A very pleasant, & filling, afternoon tea using the 2 for 1 offer. We enjoyed the service & friendliness of the staff in a lovely period dining room. We hope to visit again when in the area.
Lovely relaxed atmosphere, cosy and service was great
Excellent afternoon tea. Lovely surroundings, excellent service and the tea was just delicious!
Very fancy afternoon tea. Perfect for treating a loved one.
My husband and I throughly enjoyed our afternoon tea. The food was delicious and from the moment we entered the hotel we felt very welcome. The staff were attentive but not intrusive. It was our first visit and it won’t be our last.
Helen and Aggie both provided excellent service with a smile. Both ladies are real assets to the hotel. Thank you.
