About Afternoon Tea - Rockliffe Hall Hotel
Rockliffe Hall pride themselves on finding ways to serve this ultimate English tradition with a modern and original twist. But this isn’t just any old afternoon tea. Dainty sandwiches (crust-less of course!) scones, cakes and pastries washed down with specially-selected and highly-acclaimed ‘Jing’ teas which come in a wide range of varieties.
Traditional or with a twist, delicious sandwiches and elegant sweet treats are the perfect pairing for your afternoon brew. Special occasions may call for the addition of a chilled glass of champagne or a Hendrick’s G & T cocktail. If the afternoon tea itself isn’t enough of a draw, taking in the magnificent surroundings of the Orangery is an experience in itself.
£1 from each Afternoon Tea sold is donated to the MFC Foundation which uses the passion and power of the Football Club brand to raise aspirations and improve life chances of young people and adults across Teesside.
Service was hard to score as the staff were great up until the end. We ordered x2 coffees and had to ask 7 times, to 4 different members of staff, over the course of a 45-minute wait for them.
Enjoyed afternoon tea very much. Great service as always.
The teapot spout was stained which I did take a photo, some of the bread was a bit crispy on the sandwiches. The staff were lovely. However I think for the price it was over priced and not enough of a savoury selection.
I booked afternoon tea as an early Mother’s Day treat for my Mam and our friend. We visited tockliff last year for afternoon tea and had a lovely experience and our friend hasn’t been to the hotel before so thought she would enjoy the treat. Mam has been very poorly the last four years and we lost my Dad 3 years ago. She has just recently started suffering from seizures so hasn’t been out the house a lot the last few months and I explained that to the gentleman I spoke to to make the booking. And asked if we could be seated somewhere quiet. It was no problem at all and the gentleman I spoke to to make the booking couldn’t have been lovelier. When we arrived the orangery was fairly busy with guests having afternoon tea and the gentleman sat us in the morning room which we had to ourselves. Both gentlemen that served us throughout our booking were lovely, very attentive but didn’t bother us too much which was fabulous as it meant we could just t lax and enjoy the afternoon. When we were finished we had a lovely wander around the grounds before heading home. A fabulous afternoon all round, I love how understanding the staff are about my Mams condition which means I can also relax and enjoy myself. We can’t wait to come back, hopefully a nice overnight stay the next time
would be nice to try 3 different teas in small potts instead of just choosing one.
Wonderful afternoon spent in the Orangery having afternoon tea. The food was lovely, staff very attentive and helpful together with a wonderful atmosphere and surroundings.
Absolutely wonderful experience
As always we had a lovely afternoon at Rockcliffe Hall. Lovely staff and wonderful Afternoon Tea, no problem with dietary requests. We will be visiting again soon.
Our waiter we had was really pleasant polite and was constantly telling jokes with us that made our experience
Lovely afternoon, beautiful setting. Staff were friendly, welcoming and easily approachable. Food and drink was tasty. Would definitely go back and recommend best afternoon tea so far. Thank you
Initial service from Old Hall Manager excellent but then no follow up from other members of the team, no further tea offered etc. Also had to go into the bar to pay the bill as nobody approached table when we were finished. Disappointing content to the adults afternoon tea, seemingly less offered than previous so not excellent value for money. Good value with children’s although again no further drinks offered.
I have been to Rockliffe Hall before for afternoon tea, and it has previously been an enjoyable experience. However, on this occasion it was very disappointing, for the following reasons: 1. I specified ahead of time that one of the party was a child, and one vegetarian. I rang ahead on the morning of the day to confirm that this was noted and was told that this was. Despite this, on arrival the staff in the orangery told us they were unaware of this, and even though again they were made aware that one of the party was a vegetarian, when the afternoon tea arrived all the sandwiches were meat. This was frustrating and came down to a lack of communication and listening. 2. On previous occasions, there has been a selection of savoury and sweet items within the afternoon tea. On this occasion, there was just sandwiches and it was a poor selection of cakes and a plain scone. We were asked at the outset if we had vouchers (which we didn't); I don't know whether this influences the range of food you are given, but it was very poor value for money. 3. There was a hair in one of the desserts. We brought this to the attention of staff, and this was replaced with a brief apology. However, it felt very dismissing and why would anyone want to eat this same dessert again having found a hair in the first one? We left these as they were all made from the same batch. All in all, it was a very underwhelming and disappointing experience with a number of things contributing to this. I don't envisage going again.
This is a gorgeous venue . We had traditional afternoon tea and the service and food were faultless . Best in the North East by far .
Having tried so many afternoon teas over recent years I had kind of gone off the idea of them, however, afternoon tea at Rockcliffe was a very pleasant surprise and definitely one of the best. The conservative was a perfect setting, the only reason I dropped my rating, being a little old fashioned, I don’t think it’s a place for children, especially if they are allowed to run around. Value is also average, this is not to reflect the quality which was excellent, but is afternoon tea ever ‘value’ for money? This said, this was a fabulous treat, the food was excellent and I’d pay again. The staff had service pitched perfectly, attentive, but not overly so and very friendly.
Mum and I had a wonderful time having afternoon tea thank you.
We booked and over night stay and afternoon tea to be including, a gentleman rang myself on Friday, 2 days before our stay, we choose the sandwiches that we would be having on the day, to come for our stay we had afternoon tea and the wrong sandwiches were on our order we didn't complain at the time till we had other problems throughout our stay, they also had proof on the computer from mine and the gentleman's phone call to which sandwhices we picked but agen the manager seemed to ignore this problem
Lovely service. Amazing place. Really enjoyed it.
Beautiful setting , afternoon tea was lovely and gluten free sandwiches and cake very nice, only one complaint I think £17 for one glass of champagne is rather expensive
First pot of Jing tea had to be changed very weak flavour, ordered Cappachino had to wait more than 15mins, the assortment of food was very nice, we enjoyed having our champagne in cocktail lounge
Very slow service! We stayed at the hotel overnight, we had afternoon tea at 2pm on Friday which was quite busy and did take us quite a long time to be served once we were seated. In a busy environment I can understand this and we are never in a rush so didn’t worry too much but the wait did seem excessive. Once ordered it took an extremely long time to receive our drinks, around 10-15 mins and we had only ordered a pot of tea, again as it was busy we weren’t too worried. However, we also had afternoon tea before leaving the hotel on the Saturday which was much much quieter but the service and time to receive drinks was far too long and needs to be improved. So much so that the table next to us actually had their food before their drinks had even arrived. Very enjoyable and we would return BUT service needs to be speeded up. No excuses when it’s quiet.
We had a wonderful afternoon. Four generations of my family for afternoon tea xx It was the first time my new baby grandaughter has visited the Orangery where her mammy and daddy got married. Such wonderful memories xx
Lovely little persons afternoon tea at half term. Great food and service. Lots of little touches.
No disabled parking . a long walk to hall .staff are friendly £8.50 for GT
Felt the service was really poor. Didn’t even get a top up of tea or water, wasn’t given a bill, just told to go into the bar to pay and although the food was nice the value for money was really poor. Very very disappointed.
