About Rochelle Canteen at ICA
Rochelle Bar & Canteen at The Institute of Contemporary Arts on The Mall is now open. The ICA opened in 1947, a space for artists, writers and scientists to debate new ideas. In 2017 Stefan Kalmár of Artists Space, New York took over as director with an exciting new programme of exhibitions, films, talks and events starting at the beginning of October. The building has been stripped back to its former modernist simplicity, with our new bar and canteen to complement it. Rochelle Bar & Canteen will include a daily changing menu reflective of our honest, classic cooking style. The ICA also has two beautiful rooms upstairs overlooking The Mall available to book for events. Ben Coombs is head chef, while Fin Spiteri has designed our drinks list and will be in overall charge of the bar and front of house.
What a delicious lunch. Radishes with smoked cod's roe to nibble on with Campari spritz as an opener set the tone, followed up by skate nob, gazpacho, quail with radicchio and rounded off with a bang with Eton Mess. All served with a wonderfully relaxed, welcoming yet informed team. Can't recommend the place enough.
Outstanding meal! Flavor, texture fabulous. Angela Jaeger NYC
A really exceptional meal - everything we’d hoped for our evening.
The food was simple. A lot of good taste. Fresh ingredients. Easy going atmosphere, but just a touch too much hullabaloo from the bar downstairs.
Big smiles from the staff and very welcoming
I took my mother for her 82nd birthday and we both loved our lunch. Margot and Fergus Henderson were hosting lunch on the next table which was very cool. I am a fan of both. I thoroughly recommend without any caveats.
Excellent meal for eight people.
Excellent food, the only regret was that we didn't have time for dessert before leaving!
Good evening - first time. Very relaxed.
Already recommended to friends! Hoping it doesn't get overrun..
Great and imaginative food and a lovely wine list. Room is simple and airy
Very friendly and attentive staff, and the venue had a lovely buzz. Booking process was extremely straightforward. This is a much more pleasant option that cramming into the pubs around Westminster/Traf Square.
A jewel. I hope to become a regular.
An excellent lunch in a contemporary setting. The food was delicious with a good range of choices. The staff were friendly and efficient.... service was smooth yet unhurried. A great place to meet friends and family. Thank you.
Excellent service and enjoyable small plate dishes which were sufficient for lunch.
(This may be the second time you receive this message. I tried from another computer that seemingly was inoperative.) Our food was imaginative, simple, and brilliant. The service was impeccable. But, on Tuesday night, at 6pm, it simply was too hot to eat or enjoy the food. I do realize that air conditioning may be impossible in that restricted space. But a simple fan or two would have made a considerable difference. And I would not have left the restaurant feeling ill.
As ever, the most wonderful food and great service
We had a superb meal with outstanding service at an unbelievably reasonable price. Never mind that we felt like we were in a school cafeteria! We don't understand how you can offer food of this quality at this price, but we are not complaining. And the small but interesting wine list was also very reasonably priced. We will recommend to one and all!
Lovely meal - nice staff
Great staff, great food, good atmosphere despite the room not being the easiest to work with. Look forward to coming back.
Interesting, different food choices
Delicious food, homely atmosphere, great price
Great unfussy British food. Highly recommended!
