About Rochelle Canteen at ICA
Rochelle Bar & Canteen at The Institute of Contemporary Arts on The Mall is now open. The ICA opened in 1947, a space for artists, writers and scientists to debate new ideas. In 2017 Stefan Kalmár of Artists Space, New York took over as director with an exciting new programme of exhibitions, films, talks and events starting at the beginning of October. The building has been stripped back to its former modernist simplicity, with our new bar and canteen to complement it. Rochelle Bar & Canteen will include a daily changing menu reflective of our honest, classic cooking style. The ICA also has two beautiful rooms upstairs overlooking The Mall available to book for events. Ben Coombs is head chef, while Fin Spiteri has designed our drinks list and will be in overall charge of the bar and front of house.
Food excellent. Something a bit scruffy in set up. Seated on a strange elevated island - beyond the gaze and attention of waiting staff.
The team were amazing. They put us in the 'garden' and tended to our every need. 2nd visit, and will definitely be back for a third.
Excellent food, what more is there to say.
Had the most enjoyable lunch last Sunday, we ordered everything on the menu and thoroughly enjoyed it. The small children present were also very happy. A really special meal, in great company, overlooking the park. Incredibly good value for central london also.
We had a great evening, dining room was buzzing, food and wine was spot on and the service was great, friendly and efficient. Loved it and will be visiting again
Fantastic food, great service and a pleasant atmosphere. thanks!
delicious dinner and such a lovely warm staff, especially our bouncy server!
thank you for looking after us and make it a great night
Thoroughly enjoyable evening, the ICA is an always fascinating destination and with Rochelle being there now it’s as close to perfect as that part of london gets on a Tuesday night
Wonderfully inventive menu. We feasted on starters and puddings because I knew there wouldn't be room for a main course too. Asparagus with goose egg, salt cod croquettes with agile, roast qual, fennel and roast carrot and lentil salad, followed by rhubarb trifle. Each dish was sensational and the combination was just heavenly. Fabulous service and I can't wait to come back again.
Service was slow and at times non-existent. The food was just ok. Some things were good, others not. Orders were delayed. The coffe order was completely ignored for twenty minutes and then the wrong coffees came.... and the waiter was peeved and insisted that he had got it right!!!!
We had a lovely meal - the vegetarian dishes were really good.
Great food and ambiance on a Thursday night Will definitely be back
Very charming staff when we got their attention. Perhaps understaffed, everything was quite slow and we had to wait for everything - ordering, food, drinks, bill - quite a bit. But the food was very beautiful, a good location and a good value for money.
An great lunch for all seven of us. The food was excellent, with the Radishes with Cod's Roe and the Rabbit, Bacon and Wild Garlic Pie being my favourites (although the chocolate tart was very rich and also rather good). I liked being able to buy small carafes of the house wine, so we were able to have colours to suit what everyone was eating. It was a minor family reunion and the staff allowed us to enjoy ourselves whilst still maintaining good service.
Second visit, and certainly does not disappoint.
Delicious meal, and excellent service - friendly and professional, dealing impeccably with a mistake in our order and ensuring it wasn't charged for.
My husband is vegan and although there was nothing on the menu, both the waiting staff and the kitchen staff did a great job at making him feel welcome, they went off piste and it was delicious!!
A wonderful meal with excellent food and friendly efficient service.
We were really happy with the food and service. The portions were very generous, which made sharing as a table much more enjoyable. We will definitely come again. Thank you
Really delicious lunch, and a delightful calm space to hang out in. Will definitely be back.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is excellent and it's wonderful to have a place to eat a proper meal at the ICA in the evenings. I've eaten several times at the Canteen and each time the service has been excellent but the food more hit or miss. Recently, the deviled crab starter was fine, but nothing special and the risotto was awful, quite unrecognisable as a risotto, heavy with cheese and too many onions. It was neither a risotto nor a subise and almost inedible. The cooking felt lazy and not like the standard set at Arnold Circus. It would be useful for the restaurant -- and not just the bar -- to offer some less expensive but not tiny plates so that artists and students and those with less means could eat in the restaurant.
Unique location. Excellent service. Simple menu with great tasting food.
