About Rochelle Canteen at ICA
Rochelle Bar & Canteen at The Institute of Contemporary Arts on The Mall is now open. The ICA opened in 1947, a space for artists, writers and scientists to debate new ideas. In 2017 Stefan Kalmár of Artists Space, New York took over as director with an exciting new programme of exhibitions, films, talks and events starting at the beginning of October. The building has been stripped back to its former modernist simplicity, with our new bar and canteen to complement it. Rochelle Bar & Canteen will include a daily changing menu reflective of our honest, classic cooking style. The ICA also has two beautiful rooms upstairs overlooking The Mall available to book for events. Ben Coombs is head chef, while Fin Spiteri has designed our drinks list and will be in overall charge of the bar and front of house.
We discovered this place with great pleasure, an intimate, quiet atmosphere, no music or extra noise to make conversations difficult. The food was very tasty, fine, simple, well cooked, the wine lovely. We have to add that this was a candlelight dinner.
All fantastic. Delicious Lamb & Quail.
Had a great time, food fantastic, service lovely - have already recommended to others!
Quality cuisine in a quirky venue. Canteen style seating & ambience might not appeal to those looking for linen tablecloths and napkins.
Great place with great food. Typical British menu, but much, much better than typical. The staff are really helpful and make for a friendly atmosphere.
Fabulous. A new fav
Loved the food, wonderful service! Look forward to the next time.
We had the most charming evening at the Rochelle Canteen , superb service , relaxed atmosphere and sublime food ..... what more would you want ?
All good - except - my new pots were not cooked enough, why no British wine on the menu, why such poor choices for glass-wine, why the bloody 12.5% service charge
Generally nice, but we had to wait 30 mins for a £1.50 dish of olives and a £2.50 bread and butter. Once we reminded the waiter of them they came — with profuse apologies, to be sure — but I’d have expected not to see the £4 on the bill, particularly for a place that charges the dreaded “optional” 12.5% service charge. But of course it was there. So we paid it and moved on — and won’t come back. The old food operation at the ICA was much better. Cheaper, friendlier, simpler, more efficient. Why did you have to mess with a good thing? Pity.
Hidden gem right on The Mall
The food was above my expectations (quite traditional but with a twist and very tasty), the environment is basic but cool, the service is nice.
delicious food and amazing service, we all had a very special meal and our waiter was especially helpful, thank you
The staff were great, so nice and so attentive! Great wine list and great food too. I wish I had the pie but I will have that the next time...
All 5 of us enjoyed our lunch very much. We felt welcome, we liked the surroundings, a very pleasant afternoon. We shall come again.
Food was really tasty, well presented and served. Wine by the glass selection was pretty weak. Ambiance may have accomplished goal, but could have had more style supporting the food and experience. Waiter was very knowledgable, gracious, and informative, without being intrusive or phony. He was a definite high mark asset.
Simple but very tasty food in a casual setting but with professional service
This is a hidden gem right bang in the centre of London. Food of the highest quality with flavours that hit the high notes, atmosphere is perfect and service friendly and efficient.Rochelle Canteen has become a regular haunt of mine.
Great food and lovely place
fantastic food and service
What a delightful experience! The creativity of the menu and the quality of the ingredients was excellent. It made obvious sense, after enjoying every aspect of our meal from appetizers to mains to desserts to cocktails, that your culinary art be showcased in a contemporary art museum. Our server was terrific as well. The only improvement could be to provide a bit more atmosphere (a candle wasn’t placed on our table until the near end of the meal - actually during our coffee) and perhaps some pillows for the seats. But again, the food was fantastic as was the service. We will definitely be back.
Perfect as always!
