About Rick Stein Winchester
Rick Stein, Winchester, Hampshire was our first restaurant to open outside of Cornwall. With a nod towards our coastal heritage, this restaurant brings the freshest fish, simply cooked to the high street Winchester. On our menus there’s something for everyone and every occasion, from leisurely lunches with friends to a romantic dinner and everything in between. Stop by for light bite from our new bar menu, perfect for a quick something after work or before an afternoon of shopping – available at lunch and dinner until 6.30pm.
We had a fabulous lunch, great service and reasonable prices. As a Yorkshire man, it pains me to say that it was the nicest fish and chips I have had.
The server or the set menu should make it clear that any vegetable accompaniments offered will come at additional cost.
We enjoyed a lovely meal on Friday evening. We have found on previous visits that bread and three courses is just a bit too much so opted for the pre-starters of cauliflower samosa, arancini and padron peppers. We both had the delicious lobster for main course, followed by Winchester Pudding and peanut butter / salted caramel / popcorn cheesecake. All was delicious, with just the right level of service from the friendly staff.
Really excellent fish on the main dish (battered Hake and lobster) and the lobster was exceptional However, the chips on the'Hake & chips' dish were really quite terrible and inedible (tasted like they had been cooked in MSG?) and really need to be sorted out. Other side dishes (including fries served with the lobster) were fine. Starters were ok but underwhelming and not really worthy of the brand... or price tag.( Thai fish cakes, coconut prawns). Service was excellent and impeccable. Overall a mixed experience given the expectation set by the brand.
A big thank you to the staff who pulled out all the stops as we had married that morning. We felt throughly spoilt, the service was above and beyond what we expected. Food was excellent
Great food, service and venue, only minor point could have done with a little more service in between courses to check on drinks etc. Would I return and recommend ? Absolutely, without hesitation.
Excellent lunch with great food and service. We haven't dined here for quite a while (no particular reason) and it was a welcome reminder to how good this restaurant is. We really enjoyed the Gros Manseng/ Sauvignon Blanc blend with our fish and chips. A cracking wine for a reasonable price.
Excellent meal, just as expected as we have eaten in the sandbanks restaurant. Very nice and attentive staff, a credit to the restaurant. Thank you.
Excellent. We will return! Great food and excellent value.
My Mozzarella and tomato starter was bland. Barely any cheese and presentation was basic. My aubergine parmigiana was dreadful. Burnt, tasteless and gave me severe indigestion and upset tummy. Luckily I left most of it. I told the waitress at the time. She deducted the coffees, in compensation. But this was my birthday lunch and it was awful! My fellow dinners seemed to have chosen better. Maybe I was just unlucky
We have been a few time now, we will be back a few more. Love the food, service and atmosphere.
Utterly fantastic meal!! The food was delicious! We went out to celebrate my mum’s birthday, & she commented that it was one of the best means in her 67 years, so I don’t think we could have asked for much better than that. Three out of the five of us eating had the lobster and chips, which had a better taste and consistency from any other crustacean I have eaten. It was so perfect! I doubt another restaurant would live up to the taste. The staff were very accommodating, as we brought my 4 month old nephew with us, so we were extremely grateful for their care and patience.
We always wanted to eat at Rick steins but the thai fishcake starter was really disappointing (blobs of rubber) no texture or flavour and the Bass main course lacked seasoning or any of the sweetness or freshness that I usually associate with Bass. On the plus side the staff were charming and the in house Gin and tonic was also a joy, it was such a shame that from the aperitif on, our weddding anniversary meal was mediocre at best. I was disappointed because I love fish. Andrew
Lived up to expectation, certainly recommend it and will visit again in the future.
I liked the dining room when the pictures were on the wall as it suppressed the noise This was in Winchester
Beautiful restaurant and food delicious but a little expensive...
Absolutely fantastic food really enjoyed the evening
Excellent food and wine. Service was good as was the ambience, although rather noisy when it is busy.
Lovely night out fabulous food
Excellent and reliable food. We’ve been to both the Rick Stein’s in Winchester and Sandbanks (Poole) and on each occasion the meals have never disappointed or fallen short of our very high standards. My only slight criticism is the very limited range of English wine on the menu (one albeit superb sparkling wine from, as you would expect, Cornwall). Come in Rick!! There are some fantastic and delicious still white, red and rose (as well as other sparkling) English wines that would add an extra twist to your existing carte.
Food was absolutely great, the crab linguini was slightly too peppery. The atmosphere as always was great. Everything else was excellent. The Dover sole was described as the best bit of fish he’d ever had.
As always a lovely evening at Rick’s in Winchester. The atmosphere is cheerful and easy. The service smooth, friendly and efficient without being pretentious or fussy. Absolutely delicious lobster and sea bass dishes. We are moving to Chichester soon and we’ll miss Rick Stein’s immensely though we’ll make the effort and keep coming back. Perhaps Chichester would make a good location for just one more restaurant?
A return visit, excellent meal and excellent service
The service was very good but frankly the food could only be described as average. The food doesn’t live up to the name. Oversold and underdelivered.
