About Rick Stein Winchester
Rick Stein, Winchester, Hampshire was our first restaurant to open outside of Cornwall. With a nod towards our coastal heritage, this restaurant brings the freshest fish, simply cooked to the high street Winchester. On our menus there’s something for everyone and every occasion, from leisurely lunches with friends to a romantic dinner and everything in between. Stop by for light bite from our new bar menu, perfect for a quick something after work or before an afternoon of shopping – available at lunch and dinner until 6.30pm.
one starter was slightly disappointing (roast pumpkin salad) but main courses excellent.
The food was exquisite
waited over 1/2hour for main course to arrive even though people at next table who arrived long after us were served first. When I complained about the delay apologies were forthcoming and cost of drinks (approx. £11) taken off the bill. Quite frankly I would have rather paid in full and enjoyed the experience more if the service had been up to standard.
Great place always a lovely evening
Great meal Thursday hosted by Jack and Charlie Stein. Service second to none. Best place to eat in Winchester
My favourite restaurant in the Southampton / Winchester area...
Lovely meal, fantastic service.
Worst meal I’ve ever had at Rick steins winchester. Appetisers of prawn fritters were burnt on outside edges, undercooked in middle so they soaked cooking oil up like a sponge. When you cut them oil oozed onto plate. Had them before and then they were fantastic. This time awful. My cod had batter on it so thick and dark brown with a rancid taste, I couldn’t eat it. Normally I’d have this dish and it would be wonderful. Batter so light and fluffy it melted in your mouth. This time awful. Told waiters about fritters and they refunded them. Told them about cod, plus they could see all batter I’d left on my plate but not refund. A throughly disappointing meal, my local hip shop cooks fish better than this and it’s £11 cheaper. This used to be my favourite restaurant where I’ve celebrated at least 3 birthdays. No longer. I felt sick when I got home from all the rancid oily food. Quite a disgusting experience.
Very nice restaurant with excellent choice of fish dishes.
Everything was great. Except I was disappointed that we were given the wrong menus which meant that my partner had to swap her starter.
Always our first choice for fish in Winchester. Staff are helpful and friendly. It is important to book a table in advance because it is busy at weekends both at lunchtime and evening.
Guaranteed lovely evening
I've been a number of times and real!ly enjoy the restaurant. For the first time ever however my fish was disappointing. Nevertheless I will be back and please don't take down the lovely paintings. I think the use of mirrors instead will.be very detrimental to the atmosphere.
O think the bottled water is overpriced bit otherwise lovely but we had the raita amd it needed a little more seasoning.
A fantastic tasting evening hosted by jack and Charlie Stein, food and wines excellent and an amazing atmosphere which was so enjoyed by all. Look forward to doing it again , many many thanks 🍷🍷
Very attentive staff. Food of a high standard. Wondered why you stipulated a time by which you wanted our table; as the restaurant was not even half full.
The comments from Charlie and Jack were most welcome and added greatly to the good atmosphere
The wine and drink evening with the two Steins was fantastic. Very interesting to have each course and matched wine discussed and explained. A great event and one we would recommend. Just needs to be marketed and promoted more - we came across it by pure chance!
Lovely food and fantastic staff who were happy to advise us on the food and had genuine knowledge. Only wish there was a restaurant nearer !
Service was exceptional. Food was very good. I would return.
Always a pleasure to eat at Rick Stein restaurant Winchester. The food is consistently very good. Excellent selection of wines.
rice pudding a very small amount otherwise a lovely meal thank you
The staff were exceptionally good, ensuring that the our food requirements were met.
it was a Monday so it was very quiet so no buzz. However, the service we received was superb. Staff were very knowledgeable about the food and the wine list.
I am sorry but I didn’t catch the name of the waitress who served us but my goodness she was exceptional at her job. Just made the whole experience better for us. Attentive lovely and just a credit to your team. She mentioned she was from St Albans in London and she should have as much praise as the cooks. Top work and great hiring. Would of preferred better opened oysters I would open them myself with more care and I doubt The chef would of been proud of it but you win some you loose some. I would not have the oysters again which is a shame as no faith they know what the standards are for them. The cuttlefish starter in contrast of my father who’s birthday it was beautiful as was the crab linguine. A complete contrast. The final point is the prawn cocktail starter should be removed or explained it would be outrageously small and plain for the price. We are all aware the portions are small but I felt in comparison my poor sister was short changed and sadly as I expected she was disappointed. While writing we are still so impressed with the work rate and quality of the waitress she should be rewarded some how as you need to keep stafff that good.
