About Restaurant Roots
We are a small 16 seater neighbourhood restaurant specialising in tasting menu experiences. We pride ourselves on good service, good food and wine, and hope to give you an evening that will make you think differently about dining out.
This was our first time trying Jan’s Sunday roast as we have previously been for the discovery menu. We drove 120 miles especially and it did not disappoint. The menu by far exceeds all expectations and is value for money. We love this place and you can really taste the love in Jan/Stacey’s cooking. We opted for the beef roast which was so flavoursome and succulent. Jans roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings we spot on. The flavours of all the combined vegetables were amazing. I’m not a lover of cauliflower cheese but I am now a fan! I’m totally ruined for a roast and can’t wait to go back. Thanks guys.
An absolutely super lunch (not unsurprisingly). It was lovely to hear from Chef himself of the passion he has for his food creations and of the sheer amount of passion he has for wanting to please everyone’s palate. My plea would be for more patrons to support him and by doing so we all can continue to enjoy such a local talent. All I can do is to be a true supporter of such yummy food! 😋
We had a fantastic evening, the food was outstanding, the wine taster exquisite and the service amazing - a truly delightful evening had by us all
V.quiet on the last Saturday lunchtime before Xmas but excellent in all respects. Staff super friendly. EXCELLENT MUSIC
Amazing food with a delicious wine pairing, lovely dining experience
Very good, unrushed and a pleasurable experience
Although a bit pricey we could not fault the food or service. Everyone was very attentive and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Amazing evening, food was superb and the changes to the menu since last time were great. Service was top notch. Will definitely be returning
It was super tasty, great music and service.
We had an amazing time, both the service and the food we exceptional!
Excellent food and service we will definitely be returning for another delicious meal.
Food was excellent, the attention to detail and fusion of flavours was tremendous.
This was our first visit and was to celebrate my wife’s Birthday. We were created in a warm friendly man air and guided through drinks and the menu. The food was excuisite and the service excellent throughout. The wine recommendations were perfect and the chef took time to speak to us at your table. We will be returning for dinner as soon as possible.
We've lived in Bournemouth for over 12 years and in that time have tried most high-end restaurants that the area has had to offer. This was our first trip to Roots and we can honestly say that this is the best dining experience that we've had. Well-deserved top marks for food, service, price and a really interesting wine list. We'll be back!
A fantastic evening. Superb food and service.
We've previously sampled the lunch menu and finally made it for dinner, and we were not disappointed. We chose the Discovery menu with wine pairings, which provided one of the best meals any of us have ever eaten. Each portion was sublime, perfectly created to showcase a number of unique and complimentary flavours, while the wine pairings were unerringly selected to accentuate the food. Service is a huge part of any restaurant experience, and Roots have managed to find the ideal balance between a 5 star professionalism, and a personal touch that makes you feel welcome and thoroughly at ease. We cannot wait for our next opportunity to dine at Roots, thank you all for a fantastic evening!
A cosy restaurant with a nice ambience. The waiter couldn't do enough to help make it an amazing experience, the food is out of this world. The best part though for me is the wine with the 'discovery' menu. I have never been able to correctly pair wine with my food, my wine is usually undrinkable once the food comes, which is always shame! It is a revelation that at Restaurant Roots I can drink a different wine with each course, which just complements the food perfectly! At £100 a head including the wine, it isn't something we would do often, but to put into context, most people will spend this amount of money on going 'out out' without even realising it; once you count a meal and all the drinks and maybe the taxi? We only had to walk round the corner to this restaurant! Altogether a great experience, and one we would definitely repeat for special occasions.
Second visit to Roots for their Sunday roast and the meal was every bit as good as the last time. The restaurant feels very relaxed and staff friendly and helpful. The bread that is included in the roast is amazing. Last time was sourdough this time rye. I would happily buy a loaf as best bread I've tasted. They do a vegan roast for me which was delicious and my tart tatin with custard was sublime. My two friends thoroughly enjoyed their roasts and desserts of chocolate fondants too. Thanks to everyone in the restaurant and see you all again next year.
Excellent food and very friendly staff.
Another fantastic meal. The creativity of Chef is second to none and front of house is knowledgeable whilst creating a rapport with the diners. Can’t wait to return! Well done ‘Roots’ team. See you soon......
This is our favourite restaurant, go too place to eat. We’ve visited many of the top restaurants in the country but find Restaurant Roots has the best blend of superb food, wonderful service but in a relaxed atmosphere. Eating in a restaurant where the food speaks for itself is what we really enjoy. If you want the formality of the Ritz, it’s not for you, but superb food and the attention from people who are genuinely invested in you enjoying your visit, Roots is the place for you. As regular visitors over the last three years this was where we chose to have our wedding breakfast and reception- we were not disappointed but expectations were exceeded by everyone who attended. The food is matched to the personal service. Front of house is Geza, the wonderfully kind hearted Hungarian who will recommend the most complimentary wines which match the food (not as at other restaurants the most expensive), Jan, the Berliner Michelin recognised chef and Stacey (Jan’s wife) who is a graduate of Bournemouth Collage (who’s previous students work for, as an example, the Queen), who creates the most wonderful desserts. I’d recommend this restaurant but once you’ve got the bug booking in advance is recommended.
A wonderful evening of dining. A friendly atmosphere, Geza and Stacey were very personable and really took you through all the courses. The food was tasty and delicate. A fantastic night, I will be returning in the future, thank you.
I brought my sister as a birthday celebration. We had a really lovely evening. Relaxed, really tasty food & drink. We didn’t wish to swap anything but appreciated the option to tailor things depending on our taste. I will definitely come back for another special occasion.
A fabulous tasting menu served by entertaining & knowledgeable staff. What a gastronomic experience!! Every mouthful was bursting with flavour!
Very good fine dining
