Fantastic taster menu last Saturday. First visit and will definitely return. Enjoyed all the chefs including James serving their course to the table and also thanks to the wine waiter who was very helpful with wine choice.
Everything about the evening was perfect , the food served was delicious . The lobster bisque was the most beautiful tasting meal myself and my wife have ever tasted
Excellent food and service equally good both table service and wine waiter
Had an absolutely stunning meal, thank you! Can’t wait to return.
Delightful surprise tasting menu that flowed so well it was impossible to pick a favourite. Thoroughly enjoyable experience and we will be back.
Everything one would expect from a Michelin starred restaurant
Fantastic service. Beautiful flavours. Fabulous setting
An oasis of calm! Excellent and imaginative food. We liked the way members of the kitchen team attended on table and presented their creations. Knowledgeable sommelier. Louise and James were much in evidence.
Lovely staff, fantastic food & wonderful paired wines& great art work and atmosphere. A perfect treat, thank you
An incredible experience, the food was sheer perfection. A couple of the vegetarian courses could have done with a sauce, but that is a very minor thing and didn't take away with how wonderful it all was.
Lovely welcome on the way in, staff attentive without being stuffy. Food exceptional, will be returning.
Excellent food,setting & service
Fantastic meal overall excellent!
I don't ordinarily do reviews but then this is no ordinary dining experience. If you're looking for that 'special occasion' treat then look no further. I booked a sea view room with six course taster menu and breakfast for my wife's 60th birthday. From the moment we walked in the door to the moment we left everything was faultless and I mean faultless. Sea view - you couldn't see anything else - apart from the pier - perfect. The bed was very comfortable and the little touches like welsh cakes on arrival set the tone for the whole visit. Beth welcomed us and was around for the entire visit making sure everything was to our satisfaction. The main event, the meal, simply WOW.. the dining room, cleverly planned, that although full that night, tables are spaced to allow privacy of conversation.. We opted for the wine package and Bastion and Nick were a wealth of knowledge - who knew you could chill red wine.. The dining room staff performed a choreographed dance of tableware refresh, never hurried, perfectly timed.. each food course has to can be tasted to be believed.. I don't have the skill with words to do them justice.. The kitchen is visible through a half glass partition wall and the chefs that cooked each course presented it to us at the table with a description of each creation.. I noticed that Mr Sommerin visited each table through the course of the evening delivering at least one course.. We are not 'wine buffs' or 'foodies' but felt very comfortable in an atmosphere of relaxed professionalism.. I had to score 'value for money' to allow submittal of feedback. It isn't 'cheap' in any sense of the word. For us this was a very special treat. I was hoping to create memories to treasure and for that it was absolutely perfect.. priceless.. so to reiterate my initial comment - faultless.. if your budget runs to it don't hesitate - you will not regret it.. Thank You JS .. We will be back..
Fantastic evening, every course blew my expectations away. Service was fantastic & loved the added touch of being served by James.
The menu and wine pairing with the food was excellent as jt has been each time we visited the restaurant. Great food great wine.
People use words like “awesome” and “fabulous” far too readily these days, however they are well applied in describing the dining experience at James Sommerin. From the friendly greeting on arrival to the return of our coats on our reluctant departure everything was perfect. Just when you think it can’t get any better another innovative dish or amuse bouche arrives. The excellent wine list provides the perfect accompaniment to your meal. A real treat, for (in our case) a special celebration, but then again, shouldn’t more occasions be special?
We enjoyed a lovely meal in relaxed atmosphere with really friendly service. The location of the restaurant is a real bonus.
Exceptional in every way.
Really lovely evening.
Exciting and unusual menu. Staff excellent. Many thanks for a memorable day. Peter
an amazing experience
Food and service were exemplary. We were well impressed by the pesonal touch of the owner / head chef and his partner serving several of the courses. We had the Taster menu and opted for the additional cheese course which enabled us to enjoy several cheeses we hadn't previouslg sampled. This meal wasn't cheap but considering the quality and the expertise and imagination that went into every course consider it money well spent and will definately be returning.
Had a fantastic time at RJS - from the minute we arrived to book in to our room, throughout dinner & breakfast right until it was time to leave we were made to feel very welcome. Nothing was too much trouble. The room was well furnished with a stylish modern decor and had stunning views across the water. Dinner was exquisite - every course from appetisers through to dessert was really delightful. As someone who doesn't usually eat seafood, I have to say the scallop was one of my favourite tastes of the evening! Would happily recommend to anyone who enjoys fine dining!. Definitely coming back again soon!
