A perfect meal, everybody thought the best experience yet
Excellent evening with great food and super environment. Made to feel very welcome and enjoyed talking with co-owner. We will definitely visit again.
Excellent in every way, food, service and drinks were all amazing. perfect place to celebrate my birthday, trying to find a reason to not have to wait until next years birthday to come back!
First time great place didn’t come away disappointed in fact can’t wait to return!
Great as always
Our second time to Folium and it was still fantastic as the first time. Food was superb. I love the gentleness and calm of the service too. Well done to all.
Lovely smoked eel dish. One of the nicest dishes I've had.
Cemented my opinion that this is my favourite restaurant to visit in Birmingham, even better since my previous visit. Great mixture of light refreshing dishes and dishes that smack you clean in the face with flavour. Great work
Wonderful meal - waiter was informative and knowledgeable about the menu. Food quality was superb, delicate and I would recommended the lunch option.
Quality of the food was excellent, with the smoked eel and the lamb/artichoke dishes being really standout. The lamb could have done with a little more pickled artichoke though - I was taking half a disk with each mouthful, and there were only a couple of disks on there. The acidity brought a really, really nice balance to the rich earthiness of the rest of the dish, and once I had run out, it went from being a brilliant dish to a nice dish. Also, not a major fish lover so only had the 5 course option. Was given the opportunity to swap the oyster dish for the smoked eel - this was a really nice touch and I appreciated it. Overall, although the food was very good, I felt that perhaps the courses were a shade small - I did leave feeling still quite peckish. Perhaps this wouldn't have been the case if I'd have had the 7 course option. Perhaps it might be better to offer 4 larger courses with the option to add a fifth with a supplement or some such? Also supply more bread - one slice shared between two just looks too GP conscious, where fine dining is about feeling special. The drinks offering was left wanting a little too. More varieties of all spirits needed - a nice aged rum with a twist of orange would have really suited the ice cream course, and not being in a wine mood I was left with limited options from the bar throughout the meal. I would also suggest that £14 for a double Reyka on ice is too much - that price point is firm cocktail territory for me. Perhaps a couple of classic stirred drinks might work well? I was also a little surprised to be asked to hang/retrieve my own coat - nothing major, but a little odd within a fine dining establishment - and equally nobody opened the door for us on the way out. Again, these are minor details but they do make a difference. Overall however, the service was friendly and efficient. All in all I enjoyed it, and the chefs clearly have talent. But to compete with the starred establishments, there's some fine tuning in my opinion.
Great service and fabulous food. The wine combinations were spot on.
Fantastic service. Delicious flavours especially in the lamb main course!! And the desert with the 'melting' cobnut?? Divine!! A lovely lunch.
What an incredible meal! We went for my wife’s birthday and so much effort was made to help us celebrate. Each course was unbelievable and the matching wines we fabulous. Think we’ve found our new favourite restaurant in Birmingham. Can’t wait to go again; would highly recommend!
We went for lunch on our 30th anniversary and were hugely impressed with the whole experience. Surprised that it was not fully occupied and maybe detracted slightly regarding the atmosphere as a result . In terms of quality you have to go a long way to find such a wonderful meal.
I went to Folium for a B'day lunch. It was my 1st time and it won't be the last. The atmosphere is very soothing & the aesthetic modern & minimalist. On my table, a glass of prosecco and a birthday card were waiting for me. I think it was a kind gesture coming from the staff. From my table, I had a nice view of the team in the kitchen. I chose the 5 course menu. It was delicious, light, tasty & elaborated. The staff was nice with a great attention to detail. I had a great time at Folium and I highly recommend this restaurant.
Food good, but would have expected more than one ‘pre’ item as I think we would have had in similar restaurants. Wines were good but those on the list we’re overly expensive. Very little I would select under £40 a bottle.
We absolutely loved it! The food was excellent and the service attentive but relaxed. Would definitely come again and recommend to others
Great service and the staff were very informative. Would definitely recommend and will eating there again.
Came here for a birthday treat, having heard about it through a friend. In terms of the food, it is the best tasting menu I've had in Brum. I preferred it to Adams, Simpsons and Purnells. The portions are generous and the flavors combined with the original concepts for the dishes make for a stand out menu. Sadly, however, from the moment we arrived the waitresses stood at the counter with faces that could kill. Not all of them mind, but two in particular who were stood mindlessly polishing glasses were more concerned on making whispered comments about the customers than they were with providing a warm and welcoming service. They made us feel really uncomfortable and looked as though they would rather be anywhere else. Stand out food, but for the reasons above I will not be going back unless management can teach better customer service to their staff. Sorry.
Lucy is as big a star as any of the team in the kitchen.
Wonderful food and thoughtful service. Very enjoyable.
Fantastic evening, loved the attention to detail of each course, the description and in particular the wine pairings, will definitely be back soon!
An absolutely great experience. Personal touches and fabulous service and food. Highly recommend
Lovely evening. Fantastic food and very friendly staff
We had a fabulous 3 course lunch here recently to celebrate a friend’s significant Birthday, and Lucy was most helpful with the booking and on the day. The team were delightful and not pretentious in anyway. Please keep up the terrific work!
