Lovely atmosphere very friendly great food
We had the taster course, which consisted of about 11 or 12 small courses. Most were tasty, some were delicious, and 1 or 2 were slightly disappointing. Neither of us enjoyed the lamb dish. I though the coffee wasn't great. The sole was very nice (and I'm not a fish eater). The mussel dish was delicious, as was the strawberry course. Some of the courses had flavour combinations which did not always work, I thought. I liked the decor (70s Irish bar), although it arguably did not add to the sense of occasion. Some music in the front part of the bar would not go astray.
The atmosphere was lovely and relaxed with the tables spread out nicely. Service was excellant very atentive and informative of all the dish components. The food was as would be expected excellant, beautiful presentation and combinations of flavour. The wine we had paired really well with all courses and the wine list has something for all budgets. All in all this restaurant is more than deserving of the Michelan star it holds currantly and we hope they have continued success in the future.
We had a wonderful evening at the Chestnut. Our table was first seating of the evening so it was quiet on arrival but as the evening went on more tables filled and the atmosphere was perfect. Both Elaine and Katie were professional yet welcoming - perfect combination for an evening meal. We had the taster menu which didn't fail to impress. Each course was different to the other and screamed creativity and so many different layers of flavour. You've created a little gem hidden in plain sight, completely forgot i was in Ballydehob! Well done to all the team, keep up the good work.
The pace of presentation of the tasting menu plus the sequencing of the subtle combinations of flavors provided an unique opportunity experience distinctive and interesting new food combinations we were unfamiliar with. The staff was friendly and well informed as we asked many questions. This enhanced our experience in appreciating each dish.
We just loved everything about our visit. We were heading to west Cork for hols, took a chance on booking a table before we travelled and were thrilled to get one. There was no faff, there was a real human touch. Waiting staff were lovely but in no way obtrusive. The food was devine, right from the delicious breads onwards. We both agreed that we'd struggle to single out a favourite course. The presentation of the food and the delph used were both terrific. Wines started at reasonable prices - and there was a good selection of wines by the glass. Loved the idea of retaining the original pub feel. The 'Woodbine' sign brought back memories of my long-gone Clare grandad. Chestnut was the culinary highlight of our holiday and may well be our highlight of 2019 - a treat from start to finish. Would definitely return if visiting the area again. Such a pity we live in Dublin! We'd like to wish continued success to the entire Chesnut team.
Excellent food, excellent service, really interesting menu, some really delicious courses. Best tomato I have ever eaten! The lamb was my favorite part of the taster menu and best I have ever tasted.
Outstanding food, service and ambience.
Really enjoyed our visit to the Chestnut. Probably a bit expensive to consider a return visit
We had a wonderful evening in Chestnut. The food and service was exceptionally good and I would highly recommend it.
A week in West Cork - ‘hitting’ all the Michelin stars - this was certainly the highlight. Amazing room, service, food and experience - we will be 100% back. Keep up the great food and fantastic front of house experience.
I would definitely return. A beautiful peaceful experience

very enjoyable everything was delicious
Layers of flavour, rooted in West Cork's bountiful produce. A unique atmospheric dining experience.
This was out 3rd visit, having been there twice in 2018. To get a Michelin star within 1 year of opening is an amazing achievement. All of the tasting-menu dishes were very good & some were truly memorable. The service by all members of the staff, including Elaine of course, was both flawless & welcoming. Overall a superb experience & we look forward to 2020 !!
Fantastic meal - thank you
Outstanding meal. The cuisine is wonderfully inventive. Finely crafted courses that engage the the eye and palette. Not fussy or contrived. Locally sourced high quality ingredients combined in novel ways that bring out the innate essence of each. Staff is attentive and helpful, skillful and welcoming. Wine nicely paired to courses. A meal that will long be remembered.
A wonderful experience all around!

We feel that the balance at Restaurant Chestnut is perfect - setting, service, atmosphere and amazing food. A wonderful experience, thank you.
An absolute wonderful experience. Sometimes the fear around booking tasting menus would be the possibility of them being indulgent or pretentious however The Chestnut was simply fantastic and relaxing.
It was a most memorable meal, with every food possible from this region so delicately prepared and served. Whether is was seafood, lamb, beef or one of the many local vegetables, it was pleasantly served in a manner of utmost care and creativity. Truly we were blessed to have such a sublime meal.
Thank-you so much for all your help in making this amazing experience happen for my sister Eileen and husband Ciaran - special thanks to Elaine Regards Frazer
