Never disappoints the food is always delicious and service is great
Fabulous lunch and lovely friendly staff
The food was perfectly acceptable but lacking in excitement to move the meal to the next level where the food becomes interesting rather than just a means of fending off hunger. Serving an aperitif of dry sherry in a thimble sized schooner glass really ought to be a thing of the past!
We had a lovely time. Well looked after, lovely room, excellent food and gently homely atmosphere.
Over 40 years we havewined, dined and stayed at Whitley Hall, and never been disappointed. My youngest Daughter held her Wedding Reception their and we booked half the rooms ever night, and enjoyed the famous breakfast on this and all other occasions. however, the large filter coffee is no more, having been replaced with what is a mere 2 small cup substitute, which we feel is mean, and disappointing. The good value etc is still maintain, even though staff have changed, but who's mean spirited idea was to round off the customers day/evening with 1 small cup of filter coffee/person!!
Always enjoy a visit to whitley hall and the meals never disappoint.
It would be better if the menu had some variation week-to-week as was the system earlier in the year when a cycle of 3 was used.
I've only marked 4 star for value purely for the price of drinks! Not too sure about the new menu format for regular customers, (choice might become a problem) but we enjoyed what we had on the day.
Had a lovely meal in the restaurant with friendly service, no complaints at all Lovely hotel, grounds, rooms and facilities a credit to all the staff and owners.
I used to bring a special friend who sadly passed away on 14th June but have been for lunch twice since with other friends and we all love everything about Whitley Hall especially the Peacock family. The babies were very tame last week.
Wrong main course was delivered which meant that as a couple we were eating separately. We were offered the opportunity to 'have the meal warmed up' or as seemed an afterthought, 'a fresh one served', but as I had started. declined this. When the pork belly arrived it was very small and left us wondering whether the pork had really run out. This was a shame as otherwise the food was tasty, and as reviewed elsewhere, the breakfast was excellent.
Great room for a large party. Excellent food and service. Many thanks for a great ruby wedding anniversary.
Excellent in all respects. Thank you for making our special day even more memorable.
Whitley Hall has been a place I have frequented a few times over the years. Firstly as a restaurant venue in 2013 when the food was more on the fine dining scale. Then the wedding of my in laws in 2014 again exceptional food. Then a few times since then all high end innovative cooking that you would come to expect from this standard of hotel. Unfortunately last night's experience in 2019 was mediocre. It appears as if the menu has been dumbed down and is certainly no longer elevated dining. I do not expect to see burgers, prawn cocktails, baked camembert, fish and chips etc on a menu for a restaurant like this. For some bizarre reason there were some exceptional dishes on there but a lot of pub grub. My advice is not to lower standards to cater for mass market customers. Keep the message, food and brand at the level expected for this property. As I said there were some very good dishes, the cod, coq au vin and belly pork were good (though coq au vin and belly pork a little scant on quantity) Though the other dishes were good, for linguine and a burger it is not then justifiable to charge nearly £20 to eat a pub meal in the setting of a restaurant. I feel Whitley Hall and the 1584 restaurant need to decide and commit to a positioning which is not confusing and good value for money. The service was friendly and warm, some more than longer delays between courses but they did have a wedding reception going on.
Amazing place & amazing food all staff are so welcoming & absolutely lovely 😊
Always enjoy the food here, its a little bit different and served beautifully. Love the atmosphere, the grounds, the Peacocks (fabulous) Overall its a great place to dine or stay.
Outstanding service and quality every time we visit. We would highly recommend Restaurant 1584. The staff cannot do enough for you, are friendly and add to the atmosphere.
The food was amazing & for the price really good value. The only thing I would suggest is to have someone on the bar for when people arrive as we had to ask for a drink & was told to wait until someone came with our menus which took another 20 minutes. Everything else didn’t disappoint we had a lovely lunch
Excellent menu, efficient and friendly staff. A lovely relaxing lunch in a beautiful place. Thank you.
My visit yesterday was a birthday gift from a friend. It was a first visit and was enjoyed.
Staff very friendly efficient and looked very smart. W3 always come to Whitley hall for special occasions. I e been coming since 1975. Regards susan
No atmosphere but food and service made up for it
Dining room too dark. I would prefer some views of the gardens
Food was cooked perfect and tasted delicious.Staff were very attentive and friendly.
The Cock-au-Vin I had was very tasty. I had jam roly-poly for desert. The roly-poly was poor being dry and coated with jam which with the custard made it too sweet for my taste.
