About Red Roaster
We’ve re-imagined our cafe at the bottom of St James Street with the help of World Interiors Designer of the Year Hana Hakim. Its now a modern, botanical, tranquil space with brunch and lunch under the direction of Michelin Chef Matt Gillan. We hope you like it.
Friendly service and staff on a busy morning. Food was delicious and a good range. Willing to adapt menu options too and happy to help and advise.
My friends and I decided to come here due to another friend's recommendation. It's a shame we didn't enjoy our visit. Considering that we had made a reservation, our experience was extremely unfortunate. Firstly, our waitress Phoebe kept forgetting about us. It took about twenty minutes for her to bring tap water and get our orders. While we waited for our orders, two groups who had arrived after us ordered their food and was served before us. What had happened, according to Phoebe, was that something went wrong with the machine therefore our order didn't go through. Both of the previous parties finished their food before we even got ours. Once we got our food, it was really, really mediocre. I got a prawn bao, and there was like three measly pieces of prawn in it; plus it was cold. Just a truly unfortunate experience in all.
I'm not one to finish everything on my plate but my god was the food yummy! We just ordered from the main menu but I'll definitely be going back to try out the bottomless brunch as the dishes on that menu sounded incredible! The staff were lovely and very attentive. An all round great experience, Thank you!
Amazing atmosphere, staff was lovely and above all else the food was absolutely delicious! We had the Beef Bao, the crab on toast/brioche and the churros for desert. Everything was spot on. Highly recommend this place for atmosphere, food and drinks
It was just by no means bottomless brunch. I have never been to a bottomless brunch before where you sit with empty glasses for 20 minutes after each drink and then have to argue with the staff that you should be offered more drinks as you were only served three within the 1 hour 30. Honestly, scrap the cocktails and have an extra staff member coming round with pre-mixed mimosas and topping everyone's glasses up. This did not work as it was, and the staff were pretty rude and unapologetic (until right before we left) considering how slow the service was. Food was average and probably a bit overpriced for what you got.
Excellent and interesting food in a gorgeous atmosphere
Wonderful spot with great food and drinks! Will definitely be back over the summer for a Bottomless Brunch! The cocktails looked divine.
We booked in advance but were placed on the counter when we specifically asked for a table- however after 20 mins we were moved to a table and the staff were lovely about it so no big deal. The food and drink were more than enough to make up for this, the best brunch in brighton by a mile, will defo be back! Super cute decor too :)
Such a lovely time! Thoroughly enjoyed our food and drinks, didn’t feel rush at all and our waitress was very friendly! Will be back!
The brunch was absolutely delicious (beef ragu with potatoes and egg). Coffee was nice too. The surroundings are lovely, but a bit noisy/echoey. The full-on music wasn’t ideal for 11am on a Sunday though, maybe try something a bit more chilled out.
Delicious food and a lovely setting. Highly recommend Redroaster.
The food was really lovely and I thought the prices were very reasonable. I came here for lunch and a catch up with two friends and have to say that we were all disappointed with the service. We were asked if we wanted to order anything else 3 or 4 times after we had finished eating and were made to feel like we should leave. The final time we were asked, the waitress told us she'd have to bring the bill as people were waiting for the table. This was a bit strange as we couldn't see anyone waiting to be seated. The waitress was also quite rude when we were paying the bill - saying she couldn't work out how to split it and we'd have to work it out. We didn't mind doing this but her attitude was rude and unfriendly. Although I would like to try more things on the menu, I would potentially reconsider given the service.
Went for lunch - great selection of brunch and lunch option - all the meals were really lovely. Coffee was great and so were the cocktails. I had the Bao beef buns - would highly recommend. Only one bad point was the service was slighlty slow to begin with ( took a while to get drinks orders) but that is the only very minor and it did pick up from then after. A great spot!
Excellent food, presentation, service and ambiance. Just a little bit cozy for my liking, the tables are a little to close together, so there is not much privacy
Absolutely delicious as usual! Great food, friendly staff, lovely atmosphere!
Lovely brunch. There is more available than is shown on the menu so don’t be afraid to ask! We were then on a cold day but it was cold in the restaurant which was a shame.
Great food, service and atmosphere.
The perfect place for food lovers...we went for breakfast and thoroughly enjoyed the exciting and delicious menu choices...the Herb Waffle with Bacon, Black Pudding, strips of fresh apple julienne and Bacon Jam was presented like a work of art and the flavours memorable...terrific start to the day. Thank you!
Very friendly helpful staff, interesting healthy food and drink. Delicious puds as well. Very enjoyable experience.
I loved the presentation of the food and the waitresses were very helpful with the menu but it took some time for us to be attended to initially. I would still go again though!
Good first visit. However under staffed so drinks took much too long to arrive (we had to ask 3 times)
Lovely food and afternoon many thanks
Love the food, design and atmosphere.
A very good birthday brunch for my daughter. We thoroughly enjoyed the warm ambiance in the restaurant. The food was very enjoyable, my daughter loved the butternut squash dish. I did not have my lobster and went for the benedict. Very delicious but think I prefer ham to the pork shoulder in a benedict. The elderflower fizz was particularly refreshing. Great service. A must go again place for brunch.
Took a little too long to ask us for our bill. Would have been better should wait staff have noted we had finished our meals etc. Food was absolutely delicious! Loved the unique Bloody Mary too.
