About Red Lion Freehouse
The Red Lion Freehouse is a Michelin starred country pub with rooms.
Eating out should be a special experience and we’d like each guest to feel that way. We hope we can make you feel like being at the pub is a special occasion in itself each time you visit. Food is about flavour. This is why our menus are written for each service, each day and are ingredient led. Our philosophy is to let the ingredients shine and use skill and technique to serve delicious, seemingly simple food. Team RL believes in a strong principle - for us it’s either local or it’s the best. Often, it pleasantly turns out to be both. We feel passionately about supporting local producers but equally excited about sourcing very special items from the area that does them best. We also welcome the challenge of producing as much as possible in-house, specifically things that people take for granted, like butter or ketchup, and are over-enthusiastic - some might say obsessive - about researching recipes and methods that best lend themselves to the task at hand. So come on down to the Red Lion. See you soon.
A lovely lunch - great food and excellent service . We will look forward to coming again. Thanks
Lovely tasting menu, stay at the Troutbeck and breakfast the next morning.
A lovely experience in the private dinning room, the tasting menu was exceptional.
We had a really excellent meal- I liked very much the local produce and creative options. I had the venison tartare- interesting and imaginative. My wife had the pork- very good. The chicken ballotine with haggis was ok but not outstanding. The vegetables though were superb. Finished with a café gourmand - lovely. Interesting wine- Moroccan Syrah which was interesting and delightful- we really appreciated the opportunity to taste the wine before buying as it was unknown to us. Excellent service- fast but unobtrusive, I'd be interested in visiting you again and staying over- as that would allow me to drink some wine and not drive as we live in London. I'd be very interested in any special offers as well- even last minute ones! Kind regards Paul Browne
Delicious meal (consistently) but it is expensive. However as a treat, it is good. Same time next year!
Taster menu much more as would expect. Very nice
Expected more from the foodie package. Needed more details before booking
You made a difficult day a wonderful day. Everyone enjoyed the experience celebrating the life of my father. The service was perfect and the food sublime. Thanks so much. The private room fitted our needs perfectly.
The food was brilliant, especially the vegetarian options, and the atmosphere was lovely. It would have been nice to have more than one vegetarian option for the mains though.
Excellent all in all absolutely no negatives
An excellent meal . The veal chop to share was absolutely delicious .
As always a great night, we especially enjoyed being upstairs
A fantastic informal fine dining experience I have never been disappointed
Great food, relaxed atmosphere
Excellent meal and ambience. We went for the tasting menu with paired wine.
Good quality produce executed well. Felt that the menu was a little rich for my tastes
Top notch food, excellent service in a comfortable and tasteful environment
Great service as always. We will be back :o)
We have a lovely evening. The food was superb and the service was excellent. We shall definitely be returning.
A lovely meal. The food and wine were excellent.
Excellent all round.
Delicious food fabulous evening!
Enjoyed it. On an expensive side as one could imagine. Going through the kitchen to dining room upstairs was a nice touch. Whole place oozed class with little details popping in everywhere. Book about raising hens in a bathroom? Check. Food itself was tasty and pushing a boat a bit (vanilla puree with pork terrine? Why not?). Best places Wiltshire has to offer. No doubt.
