About Red Lion Freehouse
The Red Lion Freehouse is a Michelin starred country pub with rooms.
Eating out should be a special experience and we’d like each guest to feel that way. We hope we can make you feel like being at the pub is a special occasion in itself each time you visit. Food is about flavour. This is why our menus are written for each service, each day and are ingredient led. Our philosophy is to let the ingredients shine and use skill and technique to serve delicious, seemingly simple food. Team RL believes in a strong principle - for us it’s either local or it’s the best. Often, it pleasantly turns out to be both. We feel passionately about supporting local producers but equally excited about sourcing very special items from the area that does them best. We also welcome the challenge of producing as much as possible in-house, specifically things that people take for granted, like butter or ketchup, and are over-enthusiastic - some might say obsessive - about researching recipes and methods that best lend themselves to the task at hand. So come on down to the Red Lion. See you soon.
Very good in every way
A gem of a place. Lovely food, great staff & first rate, attentive service
Love the food here, and this time the main course (Chateaubriand) was SO good it rendered us both speechless... wow. One of the best things I've ever eaten. Thank you!
Lovely meal, food was of exceptional quality and service was outstanding, we shall be returning.
Very nice room and food was great. Thanks
All excellent. Chateaubriand for lunch, food was awesome.
Crab tart: fantastic. Guinea Fowl: brilliant. My wife and I have lunch here perhaps once a month. The food quality is consistently high and always tasty. The service is informal but very efficient.
Had a nice lunch, thank you. Special thanks to Aaron.
Excellent dining in an old village inn 'off the beaten track' Very friendly and efficient service and, although a little pricey, this reflects the high quality of the food with an interesting and varied menu
We had an awesome lunch and will definitely come back here. Staff is super friendly.
As always the Red Lion gave us a wonderful meal with excellent service but without being too 'in your face' about it. Highly recommend it!
A warm welcome, friendly atmosphere, great local ales and English wines as well as superb cooking of local produce combine to make this a memorable dinning experience...which is also friendly and unpretentious. Many thanks to chef Guy and all his staff. Highly recommended!
Fabulous dinner and breakfast. Frank was an absolute star at breakfast. Thoroughly enjoyed the food and accommodation. Thank you everyone.
Second luncheon visit, again excellent food, as one would expect from a Michelin 1 Star location, but without the pretentious touches sometimes found. We shall be back, and will try staying, so we can make a leisurely evening of supper.
An unexpected delight...
A pub meal on an upper level
Always a great pleasure to lunch or dine at The Red Lion. It has never failed to dazzle and delight.
We went for a suprise 21st lunch for my son. The staff were lovely and food delicious. I have a hard crowd to please with my family but the vote was unanimous one of the best family meals we've had. Well done.
Excellent food in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. We were a large table, with young children and the service was exceptional throughout
Great place, great food, great service!
A great evening with friends and outstanding food. The atmosphere is very relaxed, yet the service is impeccable. Our favourite special place.
Always a great venue for lunch and the fixed price menu is good value for money. But the selections are obviously more limited and not always the preferred options. A la carte menu has many more options but the price hike is fairly high. Overall, great place, service and food.
The cocktails are very well made & I would recommend them. You need to get more top end £100 bottles of red on the wine list to complement the menu.
We had dinner for two Saturday night and lunch for seven on Sunday lunchtime.Total cost £600. Saturday dinner was nice but we felt overpriced.Sunday lunch was the same menu but the roast beef and one other course was off! The Mrs Kirkhams cheese and onion tart was delicious on Saturday dinner but stale on Sunday - obviously left over from the night before. For a Michelin Star restaurant just not good enough when four of my party were looking forward to the roast beef. At those prices ( we are used to london prices) we will not be dining there again. Staff were nice and helpful.
