Wellllll, quite frankly we’re a little bored of salads and couscous. What’s wrong with the good old blighty Pie and mash with a pint of real ale sat 'round a log fire with your nearest and dearest? Things are all too often forgotten…
So, we decided to take a grand old building down the Newcastle Quayside that had bags of natural character and give it some tender loving care, stoke the fires and stock up for the winter with great ales and Handmade quality pies. Pretty simple really - we’re not complicated chaps, we just care for great food, beer and banter.
Always a pleasure!
Booked a table for 2. When we arrived it took ages to find someone to ask about our reservation. When we found a member of staff they didn’t know about the reservation and we had to follow her around for about 10 minutes through crowds of people till she could find out where we were meant to be sat. We were put on a table in the busy noisy bar area surrounded by people standing. People were sat at our table having drinks and annoyed to be moved. The whole experience and setting for dinner was awful and we left before ordering and were very pleased with our decision.
Lovely food. Quick service. Good price. Will definitely be returning as my boyfriend said one pie just wasn’t enough!
We all had a great time. The service was good. The food and beer was excellent. But importantly the atmosphere was amazing. Thanks a lot.
Everything was brilliant. Had a lovely night. Only thing on a negative side was our table was a little close to others so it was being pushed every time someone walked past or next table got up from their seat. Maybe 2 less tables in the whole restaurant would give a little bit more space so you could chat without others listening in. This wouldn't stop us coming back or recommending though. Beautiful food and good choice of drinks
Really enjoyed our visit to Redhouse as part of a Stag weekend. Good quality beer and the pie and mash buffet they laid on went down very well. Our host Izzy was very professional, and made sure everyone was kept topped up with drinks. Would definitely recommend.
The staff were really helpful prior to arrival and even more so once there. They accommodated 17 of us without any problems and food all came at the same time and hot! Definitely would recommend for a group and for something different
Food was great as always
Staff were incredibly helpful and kind, food was lovely.
Lovely place to eat, I'm slowly bringing all of my friends around to this hidden gem
Had a great evening hiring the tap room with friends and family. We had a pie buffet for the group too, which was delicious. Unfortunately there was a problem with the self serve tap but the staff were very good at accommodating us and provided a good alternative.
Booked a private area as part of a stag do, food was fantastic and we organised. Absolutely no complaints!
Great service, lovely food - would definitely return!
Amazing food and server was very attentive.
Pie. Beer. What more can a man want?? :-)
Lovely night, great value, decent pies. Service fine. We will be back.
We were a party of 12 and had really great service. Food is always good and lots of drink choice.
The food was delicious however we had several issues with the service. We were informed that they were out of steak pies, but then seen that other customers received them after we had ordered (we also heard another table order this pie without issue afterwards as well). I was brought the wrong pie, which couldn’t be swapped because the pie I had originally ordered had since sold out. Our respective mashes were also incorrect but after all the issues and long wait we decided to just deal with it. So essentially neither of us ended up with our preferences and I didn’t get at all what I ordered. Finally it took half an hour to pay the bill from asking as the waitress forgot and was swamped by other table enquiries.
Great experience at Redhouse! First time visiting and will definitely be back.
One of the pies did not state it had goats cheese in
Excellent food for a great price. So long as you like pie!
I’m a regular at Hop and Cleaver, and decided to take my partner there for dinner on 31.12, as he was up from London and said he fancied ‘some decent and dirty food.’ Upon arrival we were shown to our table, which was in very close proximity to another pair of diners. This was not a surprise at all and I understand this is the layout of the restaurant, however, it was particularly quiet and it seemed unnecessary to sit so close. We asked to move on two separate occasions, for this reason and the fact our table was particularly ‘wobbly’ only to be advised all tables were reserved at some point that evening. It seemed to completely baffle the waitress when I suggested we would only be dining for a short space of time and it was likely we would be done before other diners arrived, but alas, we were forbidden from moving. Our drinks orders were then taken. We ordered two cocktails each as part of the BOGOF, and they sadly took a very long time to arrive. Once we had our drinks it then took a further 15 mins for our food order to be taken, despite advising we had chosen what we would like to eat. Upon ordering, it took 60 mins for our food to arrive, again, I empasise the fact the place was particularly quiet and there seemed to be a good amount of staff on, so we were confused and disappointed that we waited so long. When the good did arrive it was beautiful and it could not be faulted in any way, it’s just a particular shame that on this occasion the lead up to the meal was particulatly disappointing.
