About Purnell's Bistro
We are a relaxed Bistro in the heart of Birmingham's financial district owned by Michelin starred chef Glynn Purnell.
First visit last night. Had a great meal. Service was topnotch. Food excellent. Will dine here again soon.
Great food and a really enjoyable evening
I had always enjoyed good service in the bistro before now. On this occasion I was dining with a colleague who requires dietary restrictions for medical reasons. She asked to be served a dish with goats cheese removed from it and was informed that "the chef would not serve it" without the cheese. That left a single option - spiced cauliflower - as a main course - which my colleague ordered and ate but did not enjoy particularly. The waiter who brought us the menus had told us at that time that we could remove any part of a dish, but the waitress taking the order (or, refusing to take the order in our case,) seemed more interested in appeasing the chef than looking after us. We found this all very odd - the attitude that a chef would not remove an item from a dish following a request on medical grounds, even when we had informed the restaurant of dietary requirements when booking. The experience was very disappointing, and we will now think twice about eating here in future given the numerous excellent alternatives nearby.
Nice relaxed environment with good food and service.
A very enjoyable romantic meal for 2. Excellent food and service. Would highly recommend and look forward to returning.
Great meal and service!
Lovely food and service to match
My family and I had a marvellous time. My sister is probably one of the fussiest eaters I know, and she loved it all - especially the mushroom risotto. 10 out of 10, thank you
Great, efficient and polite staff with clear customer principles at heart. Brilliant service from start to finish.
Really great working with Purnell's Bistro. Useful being so close to our venue - RCFA. Glassware and beer could of been replenished more quickly but otherwise a great event.
Very slow service even though the restaurant wasn't that busy when we arrived. The food and wine were both very good however.
The whole experience was superb. The service was second to none.
Poor service all the main courses the table of 4 were sold out should have told us when presenting the menu no4 when they came to take the order. After first drink were not asked if we wanted another drink had to chase waiters whose grasp of English was not good. Once the alternative food arrived it was excellent
I wish I could eat the scotch egg every day for the rest of my life.
We had a very enjoyable time and our experience at the Bistro exceeded expectations. We could only award four stars for food because the blackberry parfait dessert was not up to the standard of every other aspect of the visit. However, this in no way spoilt our visit, we would recommend the restaurant and would love to visit again.
Very disappointed with starter. - chicken terrine, it tasted just like cold chilcken, lacked any flavouring. Could have just been my left over chicken from a sunday lunch. Did tell waitress!
Excellent value Fixed Price Saturday Lunch . Drinks expensive . Most enjoyable . We shall return.
Our annual Christmas outing to Purnells did not disppoint . Fabulous food and wine and the service is top notch can’t wait til next year!
Just loved every minute of it save had to chase for e mail confirmation of my booking
We arrived on time and were seated. Our order wasn't taken until 1.05pm. We only ordered main courses. They arrived at 1.45pm. No apology or real explanation as to the delay other than its cooked to order. We were on our lunch hour so time was limited. Tables that had ordered before us had starters and mains arrive before our meal did. Waitress was nonchalant to our complaint and couldn't see the issue with the wait. She even had the cheek to add service charge to bill which we got taken off. No offer made to make us want to return. Have emailed manager but response was unsatisfactory. Food was nice but small portions for the price. Left hungry.
We had a lovely relaxing christmas lunch. Staff very friendly. One of the staff came out to show me where the disabled access was so had no problems being in my wheelchair plenty of space at our table too.
Have visited Purnell's Bistro quite a few times and enjoyed every visit. The service is great, the food is exceptional and the staff are pleasant and attentive. We will be back many more times in the future as we have already booked!!
We loved our lunch - our friends recommended it and we weren’t disappointed.
The food and and drinks on offer were excellent. Staff were helpful and nothing too much bother. Everyone at the restaurant made the meal memorable. If I wanted to be really picky....... a larger selection of bottle artisan beers would be appreciated. We will certainly return again next time we visit Birmingham. Well done to Glyn and his team...... The passion they have for delivering a great experience shines through and I would recommend visiting the bistro and bar to everyone.
