About Purnell's Bistro
We are a relaxed Bistro in the heart of Birmingham's financial district owned by Michelin starred chef Glynn Purnell.
Another wonderful meal thank you. The service was quick and unobtrusive as well. Thank you
Enjoyed the evening the food was great as was the service. Atmosphere wise I thought it was a little bright but that is a minor point really. I used a Groupon and this was excellent value, yes they do put a 10% service charge on the full price (£70) which means after the discount you pay £7 regardless but noon the less you still make a major saving on a quality meal. I’ve always liked Gingers but I think if I was talking to Glyn now I would just say do up you toilets a bit as they are a bit tatty! I do however recommend the place and as I said the food was great.
Another fabulous visit to Purnells. Scotch egg was divine. Atmosphere great.
Super service, fab food 😊
Delicious food served by helpful, pleasant staff.
Another fantastic visit to Purnell's Bistro - fabulous food, amazing flavours and awesome service! We'll most definitely be back.
Probably the worst Sunday lunch I’ve had , so disappointed as we had high expectations, the starter was flavourless , the main was burnt beef brisket and a horrid taste , my partner had the roast pork that was supposed to come with a crisp crackling but instead it was just cases in a leathery fat which again was horrid . Dessert followed suit just a bitter trio of flavours that didn’t belong together. Such a let down we won’t be returning
We were extremely disappointed with our visit to Gingers. We have been to Purnell's restaurant on a number of occasions and it has always been a fantastic experience so we decided to try the bistro. Unfortunately all of the steaks ordered were over cooked, the sides were luke warm and the staff seemed inconvenienced by our visit. We were treated with a sigh if we were perceived to take too long with our orders, it was clear staff were moaning about us to others and when provided with a feedback when asked if we enjoyed our meal we were met with a glare and response that we should have sent it back. When we responded that we didn't want to waste the food and was only providing feedback to the questioned asked the waiter only sighed again and quickly took away the plates. Given the price of the food and the terrible service we will not be visiting again especially given the wide variety of other restaurants in the area where the service far exceeds Gingers, food is of equal quality and both for much must less.
Service and food were top notch, would definitely come back again.
Great value, food was excellent and service top notch:
We went to Purnells bistro to celebrate my husbands birthday. The service was exceptional. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was really good along with atmosphere. Being a Saturday night and in the city centre you expect it to be very busy and noisy but it really wasn’t. The staff really do the extra mile.
Ive eaten several meals here - both lunch and dinner. The food has always been first classed the service exemplarary.
Four of us had dinner here on Friday evening. From the minute we walked in till the minute we walked out the evening was perfect. Extremely helpful, attentive staff, lovely vibe to the place and amazing food, can’t wait to visit again.
This was our third visit, with friends, and it was unfortunately disappointing. Meal choice has changed and there was only two main that were within the Groupon price allowance all the others had supplement cost to add. This is very unfair and misleading. Changed menu prices to get more money is wrong. How can a chicken meal require a £2 supplement! It is also wrong to try to charge £4 for a bottle of still water. Service staff need to be more friendly and chatty to customers to justify service charge. Overall we like the venue but I’d doesn't really have a premium feel to it and the menu definitely needs improving.
I came over to celebrate my wife’s birthday on a groupon voucher.we couldn’t fault the service but my food was not good. I had the scotch egg which was fairly bland followed by the fish and chips, the batter was soggy and swimming in oil the staff remedied that and it was delicious albeit I had to eat my meal on my own.I had the summer fruit sponge for my pud and sadly that was over cooked the sponge was hard and the fruit was just burnt to side of the dish.So to sum it up it was a bad day at the office.
Nice Friday lunchtime meal, couldn't fault anything, £19.50 a bit much for fish and chips which could have been more "Purnell" but were well done (chips particularly good). Will definitely visit again.
I just had higher expectations for Glynn Purnell’s restaurant. The starters were great (even if we did find a hair in one of them) but the mains were bland. The pasta dish was too big with too much sauce and the sauce wasn’t great. The Moroccan spiced couscous with the chicken wasn’t couscous and it had no flavour. The decor felt dated and the atmosphere was flat. It was a Thursday, granted, but we’d come from Tattu and the atmosphere was much better there.
Food was amazing and value for money (because of a groupon voucher) was excellent. However, I told staff when booking that it was for my Mum’s birthday - they even asked her name - but nothing was acknowledged at the meal. A shame really.
I found the menu rather limited. Service was excellent.
Everything was really nice, food was good, service was good & the place was tastefully done, however I was expecting the food to have more of a wow factor. Don’t get me wrong it was good, better than good in fact. Maybe my expectations are too high & the place suffers due to its namesake.
lovely place and we really enjoyed the food. Would definately come back again to try out some of the other dishes on the menu. we couldnt fit in a dessert but loved the chocolates with the coffee
We had a lovely meal, well presented and appetising. All the staff were attentive and friendly without being intrusive. We used a Groupon voucher, however on a Monday there is a special offer which would also have been very good value.
Excellent value for a city centre
Lovely atmosphere, very friendly staff, very good service and absolutely fantastic food and drinks including cocktails. A wonderful evening out and will definitely go back again.
