About Punch Bowl Inn at Crosthwaite
The Punch Bowl has built a reputation based on good quality food, fine wines and attentive, friendly service whilst still retaining the homely English pub feel. In the kitchen we pride ourselves on preparing fresh, locally sourced food and presenting it in an honest but exciting fashion. The menu is based on a mixture of classic British and French flavour combinations using modern techniques and is updated regularly to meet seasonal availability.
If you are looking to bring a four legged friend with you we only have certain tables available for them, please call on 015395 68237 to reserve one of our dog friendly tables.
Lovely setting and service from the beginning was excellent. Food was really well cooked and presented. Lamb and Scallops were not over cooked. And desserts were fresh home made and classy... With a touch of local Damsons and produce throughout. And not underwhelmed on quantity. Phil
No complaints - lovely meal and very good service. We’ll be back.
A memorable evening during our holiday in The Lake district.
I ordered the Ploughman’s lunch expecting a cheese based meal with a slice of pork pie. Very disappointed when there was no cheese at all on the plate. I should have sent it back immediately but didn’t. When the waiter asked us if we were enjoying our meal I told him my problem. He said wait a minute went away and never came back. All very disappointing.
Lovely food and service. Health problems (chemotherapy) have reduced my appetite but the soup and black pudding starters really hit the spot for me. Sue really enjoyed her lamb, even I got a taste. Well done, we shall be back.
Warm welcome , beautiful food well presented as always we will be back
Fabulous location , friendly and helpful staff, great food. Recommended to take visitors from abroad to see the beautiful countryside and olde world charms of the restaurant.
We enjoyed a drink outside in glorious sunshine before a delicious lunch. The staff were excellent. Can’t think of a single negative thing.
Amazing food and service.
Excellent as ever
When the booking of 13.00 was confirmed by email it was requested that we vacate the table at 15.30. It would have been appreciated if this had been mentioned at the time of booking in order to make the booking earlier. On arrival when this was mentioned we felt that Front of House could do with some PR training!
We thoroughly enjoyed our evening dining with you last Sunday. The menu offered an excellent choice and the food was excellently prepared and presented. Your staff who looked after us were both friendly and very helpful giving prompt and efficient service. We will definitely book with you again and recommend you to other friends.
Great food and excellent service each time we have been to the restaurant
Very good service and a delicious meal. Thank you
We've been to the Punchbowl a few times and have loved it every time. The vegan menu is very welcome as my partner is vegan. On the whole I can't fault the food. The cheese souffle is incredible. The apple tart is the best I've had. On our most recent visit I think I chose badly with the venison main, I'm not sure it went very well with the vegetables on the plate. But all other dishes I've tried have been amazing.
Excellent Sunday roast. The beef was top quality and cooked just right, not overdone but pink. Look forward to coming back.
Excellent meal in a great environment with fantastic service and child-friendly as well!
Beautiful location, pub and food. Service isn’t great.
Some new staff but still as good as ever .thankyou .
As good as always.
An excellent evening, all great, thank you.
Booked Sunday Lunch as it was a special birthday superb, we both had the beef, would recommend it
Absolutely fantastic service and a great chef. Only one criticism; a slightly broader menu would be most appreciated.
Our stay was lovely rooms clean and of quality. Staff were helpful and interactive. Meal on first night was fresh and thoughtful but very bland and I had to send back the banana and passion fruit soufflé as it was over cooked and tasted like scrambled egg. My husbands panacotta was hard like rubber. When you are paying these kinds of prices for food and wine (expensive) they should know better. After chatting with some other regular guests it was mentioned that the food quality is not what is used to be. Disappointing. Second night dinner was delicious however - tasty, well seasoned and a real pleasure to eat. Overall would recommend on many levels. Perhaps we just caught them on a bad night. J
