About Punch Bowl Inn at Crosthwaite
The Punch Bowl has built a reputation based on good quality food, fine wines and attentive, friendly service whilst still retaining the homely English pub feel. In the kitchen we pride ourselves on preparing fresh, locally sourced food and presenting it in an honest but exciting fashion. The menu is based on a mixture of classic British and French flavour combinations using modern techniques and is updated regularly to meet seasonal availability.
If you are looking to bring a four legged friend with you we only have certain tables available for them, please call on 015395 68237 to reserve one of our dog friendly tables.
Excellent meal in all three courses last Friday week. The bass was particularly expertly cooked, crisp skin, succulent flesh, very well sourced very fresh fish. My wifes guinea fowl - which I tried - equally appealing. Clean simple but intense flavours in the desserts
100% recommend the Punch Bowl!
Amazing food with great flavours, flair and skill. Brilliant and attentive maitre d who really looked after us.
Great food and first class service
We had to change the time we came to later as had to go to hospital with our little boy and this was done without any problems thank you x
We were a party of 11 celebrating a family weekend trip to the lakes. The Punch Bowl was recommended by the Graythwaite Estate people. We all thoroughly enjoyed it. Great food and wine and the staff were excellent. Attentive and great fun.
a wonderful meal, thanks.
Very good all round

Truly excellent lunch for 4. Loved it.
One of our favourite restaurants, wonderful food excellent service
Poor customer service let us down.
Food wonderful. A pity there was no dark beer (Tad Lag) on that evening. Perhaps you were short on serving staff. But overall it was a great dining experience and the food was exceptional.
Excellent meal and service but little expensive bar drinks
It was my first visit to the Punch Bowl, and having heard good things about it for a long time we decided to book for a special occasion. We were not disappointed in the slightest. The service was excellent, from the moment we arrived. We had our 2 year old son with us who was a bit tired when we arrived and so not in the best of moods, but all the staff were brilliant with him and he soon cheered up. The table we were given was lovely, with plenty of room for our party of 7 and we never felt neither rushed nor ignored, the level of attention was just right. The food was superb. Tasty, interesting and well presented, it was at the high end of restaurant standards. The wine list showed a good variety and was mostly well priced. Overall we had a great experience and will definitely return, perhaps to stay over next time. The setting was lovely and the outdoor tables were a lovely place to have a drink in the sun. A great find, we look forward to seeing you again.
I was rather surprised when I went to pay my bill that your member of staff asked me out loud if I would like to leave a gratuity. All other hotels and restaurants I frequent leave the choice to the patron whither they leave a tip or not without blatantly asking for one.In this day and age of minim wage why? does the hospitality industry still insist on expecting a tip?All other industries work equally as hard as waiting staff yet gratuities are never asked for or expected.
Beautiful food and great location. Unfortunately, I have to rate the service low due to one of the male waiters awkwardly asking us 'will you be paying gratuity on card or cash?' with the card machine in his hands, then asking directly, 'how much?'. Never had that happen in a restaurant before, very indiscreet and embarrassing, making us not want to leave any tip at all. A very strange end to a delicious meal.
Fantastic stay. Friendly staff, excellent food and beautiful room.
The best meal we had in the Lake District. The staff were excellent especially the head waiter who recommended the special of Scallops they had that day, which were delicious. The lemon tart was the best desert I have had in a long time. Would highly recommend this gem of a place.
Lovely food and relaxed atmosphere
Beautiful setting, very friendly staff , being very intensive too. One slight comment, dessert : As being careful maybe just an offer of fruit, berries - cream or ice cream if wanted. Other than that a perfect lunch and service. Thank you
Restaurant was cool so our guest on honour had to leave her jacket on, one principle item on menu not available (Sea Bass) so my wife was disappointed.
Went for Sunday lunch to celebrate my mums birthday fantastic experience we all loved the food.
Excellent food and outstanding service from Karen.
Lovely place and really great tasty food at reasonable prices. Bar became a little noisy when the big group arrived. Some of the serving staff need to cheer up and smile and not reach across guests when serving and clearing. One friendly staff member fed the dog several treats without asking if it would be OK
