About Punch Bowl Inn at Crosthwaite
The Punch Bowl has built a reputation based on good quality food, fine wines and attentive, friendly service whilst still retaining the homely English pub feel. In the kitchen we pride ourselves on preparing fresh, locally sourced food and presenting it in an honest but exciting fashion. The menu is based on a mixture of classic British and French flavour combinations using modern techniques and is updated regularly to meet seasonal availability.
If you are looking to bring a four legged friend with you we only have certain tables available for them, please call on 015395 68237 to reserve one of our dog friendly tables.
Noticed there seemed to be new staff since our last visit. Although the weather was glorious and it was therefore very busy for a Tuesday, waiting/serving staff advised that they were low staffed as they did not expect it to be so busy. They dealt with the lunch time rush extremely well and all was good. We booked only about 1 hr ahead of arrival.
Food was delicious.
Food was delicious, surpassed all expectations. Lovely venue, attentive service and fair prices for the quality of food.
Lovely lunch-fantastic food and staff team Excellent as always!
Another excellent visit to the restaurant food and atmosphere was excellent as usual. Cant wait for our next visit
Excellent food and service in a wonderfully setting. Real attention to detail. Would highly recommend
Fanrastic good and great attentive service
Amazing food, love this place
Staff were very helpful with dietary requirements and produced a beautiful 3 course meal for all four of us. Would highly recommend for any occasion, whether its Sunday lunch or a special occasion.
Service and food excellent, the only issue is the beds. We've slept in a few rooms and the one thing we noticed in all of them is the comfort of the bed. They seem very soft and worn out, maybe time to replace them.
Having travelled up from London for our anniversary we decided to book the Punch Bowl as a treat. The entire evening was superb from start to finish. Great staff, great atmosphere and a great meal. We will most certainly be back when we return to the Lake District Thank you everyone
Lovely meal for my Wifes 80th. Sadf even provided impromptu birthday cake. Thank you .
Fantastic restaurant in a lovely location.
Excellent service with very friendly staff. Although expensive the food was lovely.
The food and service was excellent and the ‘happy birthday’ plate was a thoughtful and lovely gesture. Thank you. We all thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
Always had brilliant meals every time I've visited!
Great meal and attentive service. Prices slightly high for the portion size but the quality was high. Would visit again.
Outstanding food, the scallop starter was a delicious combination of fresh flavours, compliments to the chef. Our room was beautiful and the manager Claudiu was so welcoming and professional. Nothing was too much trouble at The Punchbowl Inn, thankyou .
We recently visited on Saturday night for a drink and the following day to enjoy Sunday lunch. The Punch Bowl is a beautiful traditional pub/hotel with original flagstone flooring and oak beams and fireplaces with other tasteful decor. The food is beautifully presented, locally sourced, flavoursome and generously portioned. I would make one relevant on-point observation/criticism on behalf of my partner who is a vegetarian that the menu was very limited in choice for vegan/vegetarians and needs urgent attention to make the PB more embracing. We witnessed this at first hand when a middle aged couple accompanied by their daughter engaged in a vocal argument on viewing the menu resulting in the daughter who was a vegan leaving the restaurant. The most important attribute for an establishment is the staff and the chef and I can only begin to pay enough tribute to your charming, professional, immaculately presented General Manager and his Team who were true ambassadors for the Punch Bowl brand and name. They went above and beyond the standard service and should be roundly commended for their genuinely warm and professional welcome and service and I would never hesitate to recommend the Punch Bowl to Friends & Family. BRAVO !!!
Another lovely meal at The Punchbowl Inn. Fish this time- delicious crab and then sea bream. Perfect. And a naughty bowl of glorious chips. Will definitely return. Great service.
The only area of service I would flag up for attention is the lunch menu. We were a bit underwhelmed with the selection and ended up having a salad- which was, well, a salad. Not really what you travel from Carlisle for.
We had a delightful evening. Very attentive staff. Food was delicious. Great twice baked cheese soufflé and a lovely duck in cherries dish. Have booked again immediately. I don’t think there can be a better recommendation than that!
Excellent food very well presented and served.
Good food, pleasant atmosphere, attentive service. Let down by overpriced drinks and menu extras resulting in an overall poor value for money meal.
