About Pravda Cafe & Grill
In Russian, Pravda means “the truth”. Hence the eatery’s focus on honest, produce-led dishes that use the very best ingredients New Zealand has to offer. The daytime menus offer flavourful café favourites given a modern spin, along with freshly ground Immigrant’s Son coffee. The cheese scones are world-famous in Wellington, while the breakfast and lunch dishes run the gamut from contemporary egg dishes to innovative salads, burgers and sandwiches, and bistro classics.
By night, Pravda is Wellington’s best steakhouse, with a carefully curated selection of exceptional cuts, informed by the menu at Pravda’s siblings, the iconic Jervois Steak House restaurants. Executive chef Gareth Stewart sources red meat of the highest quality, and alongside the grill offering is a modern bistro menu, with dishes that offer something for everyone.
Thank you Pravda for an awesome experience. Daena our waitress was first class and thank you for my unexpected happy birthday!
Stand out was the service of Declan
Lovely meal, great service
My partner and I dined in last night for the first time and we loved it, our waiter Dex was great. The steaks were 10/10! We will definitely be coming back.
Thankyou so much for a really great experience! Service was amazing & food was delicious. We both left very happy & will be back again soon!
Fantastic experience, wonderful service from everyone & beautiful food. Thanks. I have already left a review on Google.
We enjoyed everything about our visit to Pravda, Frances, who waited our table was superb, food very tasty, and ambience perfect. We will visit again. Noeline Holt
I love Pravda - beautiful building, warm welcome, gorgeous food, great service & excellent wine selection. We went pre WoW and the timing was perfect.
Fantastic express lunch. Tasty and great service.
It was a busy WOW Friday, our service was great the young lady was very pleasant and helpful. Three of us had the fish and it was absolutely beautiful. Keep up the good work.
Great night out. Thank you!
Ok do it’s WOW weekend but that’s no excuse for the a) bubbles ordered - they didn’t have any chilled - suggest Simone keeps the fridge stocked up b) service - lack of and staff all looked stressed! - plates just plonked down. No smokes. Looked aghast when we asked who’s was whose as three meals the same with different requirements to them. Had to keep asking for things- water, coffee ice bucket .Were told two staff down but when it’s a busy weekend you need to have plan B. It’s not our problem and nothing is better than a smile and friendly service. lovely surroundings.
Lunchtime service was really slow today. Not sure what was wrong becuase this is the first time I have experienced that kind of a delay.
I am a regular at PRAVDA. I travel to Wellington for work but always hold meetings at PRAVDA :). I have been doing this since the last 10 years! Thank you, Shweta
Fantastic service, food as always was really tasty, current and just right portions. Pravda was humming with a great happy atmosphere.
Our waitress was exceptional and helped make our special night out even better
The bread base on the bruschetta was too thick otherwise beautiful.
Wonderful night at Pravda. Fabulous food, great service. My only small criticism would be it is very dark, quite hard to read the menu. We all had the torch light on our phones on (maybe that's just our age, haha).
I made an online booking for myself and my colleagues (9 in total) for Friday 6 Sep at 12pm but then changed it by email (followed up by a phone call to the restaurant) to Thursday, 5 Sep at 12pm instead. When we turned up to the restaurant at 12pm, the two people on the front desk (a young man and woman) were incredibly rude to us. Apparently they have noted the booking as 2pm in the system instead of 12pm so a table wasn't ready. I asked the man if that would be a problem and he responded in a very arrogant and rude manner (rolling eyes, etc) that it would be but that given we're here now, they'll try and figure something out. We were all flawed by his response, given a booking was made but we continued to wait. His demeanour just got worse from there. In the end we were seated begrudgingly. It ruined the leaving lunch experience we had in mind for our colleague and we regret not going somewhere else more professional and friendly. All my colleagues and I provided him with some feedback when we left and he remained arrogant and defiant and said that he was rude because it was lunchtime and they were busy and it's not his fault that the booking was stuffed up by Pravda. I asked to speak to the manager but he told me he is the manager - which was confusing because earlier he referred to the blonde woman at the front counter (who witnessed his rude behaviour and said nothing, as the manager). We have all been to Pravda several times and were shocked by his behaviour. He really detracted from your good brand and none of us want to dine there again and will tell our friends and family not to either. We'll be sharing this feedback on Tripadvisor too - none of us has ever experienced such behaviour from waiting staff - internationally. The food was pretty average too. Some of us ordered the seafood chowder as a main and the mussel shells were delivered empty, such a letdown for almost $30 a plate. A poor experience for all 9 of us all round.
No need perfect
I had the express lunch - the seafood chowder was absolutely divine. The salmon dish I had as a main was bit disappointing - I LOVE salmon, however for this dish I think it would have been much better if it was thinly sliced - or cooked. Great service. And did I mention the chowder was divine?!!!
Well cooked and presented food with very good service and an interesting selection of wine by the glass. We will return!
Hi there Service was magnificent. My colleagues loved their food. I dine with you quite often but had to say I couldn't eat my Cesar Salad. The egg was pardon the pun, fowl, not sure it was a chickens egg? It was still very runny in white the middle. The flavour of the salad was no where near it's high standard. The bacon was so hard it almost broke my teeth, hard work! The plate arrived looking like someone had drowned the unloved lettuce in Parmesan to avoid acknowledging the massive lettuce stalks which dominated my plate. Dressing left me unsure.. Sorry usually I LOVE Pravda - but today's Cesar Salad was poor.
Perfect rainy day lunch venue. Food was delicious and the staff, professional. The Rosebud cocktail is a must try.
