About Pomeroy Kananaskis Mountain Lodge - The Cedar Room
Blacktail Bar is a modern mountain lounge that showcases handcrafted cocktails and delicious regional beers alongside a range of healthy and hearty dishes.
Centrally located off our main lobby, it is the gathering spot to meet for a casual lunch or to toast a day well spent. Enjoy a full meal or share small plates cozied up in the ambiance of a roaring fireplace, or relax at the bar for an unforgettable evening of refined mountain living.
Stop in for appetizers and drinks before dinner at the Cedar Room, or for a quiet night-cap before turning in for the evening
Booked the private Cedar Room for my husbands 40th birthday. Was happy with service, ambiance, and menu for the evening. All precautions we taken into consideration during this time with COVID. A nice getaway and well taken care of from booking, to event evening.
The service was amazing. We had the salmon and sable fish and both were extraordinary.
Gilbert at cedar room is fabulous. The food is amazing at all locations at the hotel and check in was a breeze. The spa was lovely, clean, well staffed and a treat to use. Evening is a great time to check out the lights while the daytime offers beautiful views.
We really enjoyed the food. Service was excellent, friendly and efficient. It was very, very expensive including powerful extra charges for vegetables. Way more expensive than similar standard places in, say, Calgary. So, I found it hard to rate it all that well for value for money. But, good food and excellent service.
Experience was great, service was professional and timed well. Had a window table, view was lovely. Food was very good - Brie appetizer was amazing (very large, lots of baguette), the sirloin steak was perfectly done and tasted great. The carrot ravioli was good but a bit too sweet and lacked texture. Needed something salty (goat cheese?) or crunchy (pine nuts? Walnuts?) to help it out. Overall a great experience and would return and recommend.
We had the most amazing meal!!! Everything was incredible! Can we get a whoaaaaaaaaa DAVE!! The service was great, Stewart was attentive, knowledgable and fun! I’ve already recommended the restaurant to many people.
Our waiter was outstanding. Very good with our kids. Even made them a blow torched marshmallow after they saw someone at another table with a Smore Old Fashioned. We were very impressed. Food was great too. Definitely recommend the Bison.
Great food and great service, such a special place.
I feel a little guilty giving 1 star ratings for everything, since I absolutely love the Cedar Room,,,and was looking so very much for us dining there again Mon evening...however, I dealt with pretty miserable, non caring people at the front desk and honestly canceled our stay which in turn forced me to miss dinner. Unlikely that I'll stay at the Lodge again which in turn means I may not get to enjoy the Cedar Room again. Like I said, absolutely love the dining experience in the past so this review is more for attention between departments I guess.
Excellent servers! The couple that is married that work at the Cedar Room were fantastic!
Our waitress Dana was fabulous, very knowledgeable and offered her thoughts about her favourite food choices. She was thoughtful and offered the perfect level of attention to servicing our table. The food was amazing. We had the Brie dish which was fabulous. My maple salon was supreme. My husband’s lamb was ok but admittedly he doesn’t have lamb often so can’t honestly compare. Our valentines desert was amazing as well. The experience was lovely and we will be back
Booking was difficult. We needed to change the reservation on the day and couldn’t get ahold of anyone. I would suggest having someone at the hotel able to adjust these.
The food was really good and our wait staff were very professional and friendly. We had a party of 7 with 3 kids all 11 years old. It took over 3 hours for dinner and desert. I had to complain about the length of time things were taking and the staff did apologize and comp. our desert. Being the kids were falling asleep on the table I would have expected the staff to hurry things and apologize unfortunately I didn’t get results until I complained .
Honestly some of the poorest service we've ever had. I don't fully blame the waiter as I think he just had too many tables for his ability, although others seemed to be managing. It took 20 mins for someone to come and take our drink order, another 10 mins before we got our drinks, and we were just about to walk out of the restaurant. It took another 35 mins for our food. Both my husband and I ordered steaks off the grill menu. Both steaks were tough and were no where near the expected level of the 52$ price tag. My husband ordered medium rare and I ordered medium. His was closer to medium well. Potatoes were bland. We had bacon wrapped carrots and those were very good, best part of the meal. The family of 4 beside us came in before us, ordered before us and got their food 20mins after us, after which they also told us their food was not very good. Incredibly disappointing. Food seemed way over priced for the quality.
Enjoyed our time at this restaurant. The service was top notch and servers very friendly and professional. It was very relaxed and don't expect to only be there for an hour. We were booked at the end of the evening so by the end many people had left the restaurant and the servers had time to come to the tables and visit which was nice. We enjoyed delicious mocktails and the tartare appetizer suggested to us by the waiter was good.. The salmon meal was satisfying, although the sauce on it was a bit different and my husband gave it a lower rating because of that. My chickpea panisse was very good, but for some reason they substituted corn for the carrots in the dish I would not have chosen it if I had know that. The corn was not the sweet corn either, but that harder skinned bland variety. The chickpea though I really enjoyed. It was pureed and then coated with a crumb like mixture and appeared to be deep fried. We followed up with the banana bread/carmel sauce dessert which was excellent! They had a new dessert menu and this one was the only one that carried over from the old menu and I can see why. Thank you to our server, sorry forgotten your name, but coming from Mexico to cold Canada deserves recognition! You were professional and very experienced! Book reservations because they are busy on weekends.
Typically, there aren’t gluten and dairy free dessert options. Imagine our surprise when the Cedar Room had two!! So, of course we had both of them! And, like our main courses, they were excellent! Definitely will return and recommend!
We had the lamb, I love lamb, but I have to say I was a little disappointed-it was very fatty-not much meat-flavor was good but 3/4 of the chop was fat. Everything else was awesome, service was awesome. I would probably not order the lamb again which is sad as I love it and have eaten alot of lamb.
Amazing food, atmosphere and service. Would highly recommend and will most definitely be back.
The appetizers were amazing; the beef tartar was worth every dollar and the baked brie was delightful (great for sharing as it is heavy)! However, the mains were disappointing. The lamb shank was tender but lacked flavor, the Cornish game hen was also very bland. The ravioli was served under cooked and sent back but by the time it was ready again we were no longer hungry. They were kind enough to remove the item from our bill but rather disappointing to not be able to have our meal. The service and atmosphere are both enjoyable but would have been better had the food matched. Would go back for the appetizers.
Beautiful restaurant and good service... As for the meal, it wasn't the best value for what I got. To be fair, it may just be what I ordered (sable fish) but the portion was way too small for what they charge ($42). My friend ordered the lamb shank and was happy with it so again, could just be the dish I picked. It was good otherwise, I would recommend it only for the fact that there isn't anywhere else to go out there.
We had the most delicious steak tartare ever. The steaks were very good. We had the peppercorn sauce and the lamb shanks were also delicious. The prices are high but the food is good. The only suggestion would be to expand the wine list with some good lower cost wines. The markup is pretty high.
The food was great and the service from Carlos was exceptional! Will for sure go back
We thought the food we had was wonderful and the service was good. We found the restaurant very cold so there must have been some issue with the building heat . The prices were really too expensive and considering the hotel was quite busy we were dining almost alone .
Amazing service from the staff here. The food was also fantastic. The baked brie was a highlight as well as the salmon and the ravioli. The new winter cocktails are also amazing. No complaints from me.
The meal and service was fantastic
