About Poivre & Sel
Welcome to Poivre & Sel. We are Samuel and Severine Goslin, French husband & wife, the owners of this beautiful establishment.
The restaurant is located on the iconic Marine Parade in one of the six sisters historic building with a seating capacity of 45 people.
At P&S we use red & black tablecloth to create a warm and romantic ambiance.
We don't renew our table, when you come for dinner, we want you to enjoy the French Dining Experience, by taking your time savoring every dish and admiring the lovely romantic decor and the wonderful Natacha Riou's paintings, a talented French artist who is our head waitress.
There is a large dining room downstairs and a more private room upstairs with a beautiful sea view.
We love receiving groups, so please don't hesitate to contact us for your special celebration.
If you want to enjoy an amazing dinner, with everything home made, prepared with local and fresh products and a French fusion, please book your table in advance to give us the opportunity to provide the best.
As always a great experience. Would recommend this restaurant without hesitation
Not such a warm welcome from front of house staff member as we have received at previous visits.
Hi Jenny, Thanks for taking the time to review us. I am extremely surprised about your comment, I did receive you myself, (the owner), reconized you, asked you how you were all, thanked you for coming back, showed you your table, asked you if you wanted me to take your jackets, offered you some water staight away, asked you if you were feeling warm enough, I even took your order myself, then my children served you all night, they have been friendly and professional all night, I always keep an eye on them. Maybe youi didn't like the fact that I refused you to take only one main, but you know we have always been on set price and not a la carte. We really are focus on customer service, always friendly and helpful. It will be great if you could send me an email to explain me what we did wrong, as I have tried to find what made you feel uncomfortable, but I can't see anything. We hope to see you soon for a better experience. Warm regrads from myself, Morgane & Mathis.
Absolutely beautiful. Love the menu concept and structure. Experience was so lovely I have rebooked again for Friday. Thank you
Food a step above average, service not great at all. Long wait, little attention. Never go back.
You were told about the delay since one staff was missing in the kitchen ,yet you decided to stay. 1 hour fifteen minutes for a full meal (entree, main, dessert) is more than acceptable in a restaurant . It was not a question of attention but more like an uncomfortable feeling coming from the wait staff due to your rude behavior . Thanks for not coming back as we don't want a step above average customer.
The food and wine matches were exquisite. Incredible how you can made something tasty AND a work of art on a plate. I highly recommend going for the full Monty.
Fantastic meal. Fresh fun flavours.
Wonderful experience creating a very special niight. The food was exceptional. The best restaurant in Napier. Thank you.
An excellent meal in a very special environment . We loved it - thank you !
A delightful dinner.
Had a delightful early evening dinner last night. Thank you team for the great food and wonderful wine matches that I don’t think we’d get anywhere else in town
Authentic and imaginative French cuisine
Can’t wait till we return!
Stunning good! Faultless!
We've been to some great restaurants, here and overseas. Poivre & Sel is right up there with one of our better experiences. The menu was not large but the food was beautifully cooked and presented. and the staff were very professional. Out of the three restaurants we went to in Napier over the weekend, this one was by far the best!
Second time we have had dinner here and cannot recommend it more. Can’t fault a singe thing. Looking forward to our next dinner there.
Amazing food and service.
Dear Samuel and Severine Thank you for a delicious meal on Saturday night. I am a writer for Cuisine magazine and will be filing a report for the Where We Ate section of the magazine. These are not so much restaurant reviews nowadays as profiles, as we no longer award scores. I have some queries which you could either reply to in an email - [email protected] - or you could phone me at your leisure on 027 255 0776: Where in France does Samuel come from? What would have been the best restaurants he cooked at in France? When did you two come to New Zealand? How long did you operate Poivre et Sel in Whitianga? What is your culinary philosophy? Informal fine dining, perhaps? How did you manage to get the fennel flavour into that marvellous beurre blanc? - it was such a refined sauce that I could not see any pieces of fennel bulb in it. What are some of the ingredients of the Beef Tartare? Who are the family members involved in the restaurant? Was our young waiter your grandson? With best wishes David Burton Food Writer, Cuisine magazine Degree Lecturer, Le Cordon Bleu New Zealand
We had a delicious 3 course meal with exquisite French food and Hawkes Bay wines. The atmosphere was elegant and the staff very professional. We loved it.
As usual delicious fare served by excellent wait staff. Like I said last night this is my favourite French restaurant.
Superb dining experience
Fantastic night, the whole experience from walking through the door until you leave is excellent and of course the food is outstanding
Beautiful food as good as you get in France.
Love the wine matches and the menu options:)
Wonderful evening. Very engaging staff and we really like the menu concept. Food very well prepared and presented, with great flavour balance. One comment, some cut baguette to help mop the delicious sauces on the plate would be a bonus!
Snails are actually delicious, 10/10 recommend.
