About Platform 818
First opened in 1855, Central Station was a simple wooden platform with a corrugated iron shed. It serviced the first passenger line in NSW running between Sydney and Parramatta.
Platform 818 pays homage to the history and heritage of the railway system and railway towns in NSW throughout the years. Industrial, rustic, yet chic, it’s ideal for people looking for great times and new adventures.

Service was friendly and timely. I had the steak, hubby had the pork cutlet. Both cooked perfectly and enough accompaniments so need to buy sides as well. A very enjoyable experience.
I can't believe how bad the service is at this restaurant. I ordered pork belly and it was not possible to cut it. I politely told the waiter that I had to send the dish back, and the waiter immediately started to argue with me. I explained that I did not wish to argue with him, and he proceeded to harass me. I had to then explain to the manager that his staff should not argue with customers. I also explained my reason for sending the dish back. For this horrid experience I was given free chips. Even when I went to pay the waitress couldn't really figure out how to charge my credit card. This place is a shambles from start to finish. If you want a nice evening out, do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. There are lots of restaurants in Chippendale, and you can go literally anywhere else, because no place is as awful as this!
The service from the kitchen was very slow at times. All the staff are delightfully helpful and friendly
Started well, starters were tasty and presented well. Pork crackling was selected as main, it was rubbery rather than crackling as it was overcooked. Dessert presented well and tasted just as nice.
Staff are very helpful, great service, food is excellent and the environment very comfortable, highly recommend and will be returning.
We had a really enjoyable experience - the service was outstanding and we were offered a few complimentary canapés during our meal to try. Just one suggestion - maybe a bit more attention re drink refills - we had to wait a while for someone to check if we needed more. Otherwise, it was fantastic - the staff were all very helpful and obliging. Food was delicious.
Love the new look & feel of the restaurant. Great team and amazing food! Always a fan of their cocktails!!! Will be back surely.
Platform 818 of Mercure at Central is perfectly located for business lunches, after work or weekend gatherings. The venue is spacious. The atmosphere is quiet and moody, allowing for conversation to flow, but with adequate lighting to see the food you are eating. The food is perfectly prepared, beautifully styled, and has delicious flaviours. The price can sometimes not meet the quantity received. The plate size is generous but the portion on the plate seems meager. I was in a company of 4 others, and when the food arrived, our conversation turned to expectations for meals within the city regarding portion size verses price and whether we are out of touch. The mains require sides unless you order from the grill selection. In my opinion this is overpricing and under-delivering. This was the only fault. The kitchen services the whole of the hotel (including room service), so the time between order and delivery is enough for conversation to flow. I felt the delay was perfect - not too long, not too quick. The food was perfectly cooked, beautifully presented, and full of flavour. Overall, I was extremely satisfied with the food, delivery and service. The value for money seemed a little pricey for the portions received, but then I don't eat out very often and may have lost touch with the price of meals in a restaurant.
The new look restaurant at Mercure Sydney is a real step up both in food and design. Service was very good, special thanks to Andrew, and the value with Advantage Plus is hard to beat. Try the figs, delicious!
