About Pettigrew Tea Rooms
Pettigrew Tea Rooms is located at the main entrance to Bute Park in the heart of Cardiff City centre. This proudly independent restaurant was established in March 2012 and is open seven days of the week for breakfast, lunch and Afternoon Tea throughout the year.
I was really disappointed yesterday to turn up with my mum, daughter and elderly aunty for an afternoon tea to celebrate my aunts birthday and find that pettigrew tearoom is actually closed at the moment. This was despite confirming my booking on sunday morning and now receiving a follow up email asking if I enjoyed my visit. I appreciate this is a fault with the booking system and times are very difficult at the moment but I can't be the only person this has happened to and I really think the issue needs to be dealt with more effectively than simply turning people away when they turn up with barely an apology. It was a really cold and rainy day and I just felt that the staff couldn't care less, the girl at the till didn't even say sorry until we said they probably should apologise. Its left quite a bad taste and with so many other lovely afternoon tea venues in cardiff I will be very unlikely to go back.
Great food, service and value.
A big thank you to the fabulous Kayleigh & wonderful team. Afternoon tea was simply exquisite And we were made to feel so welcomed. Service was exceptional Thank you so much for such a special afternoon x
Been to pettigrew on a number of occasions and always have had a good experience, lovely food and staff very accommodating. Very good all round.
Service was fantastic, the lady managing our table was excellent with our 2 young children. Very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Thank you
Two of our party were Vegan and it was brilliant how well they were catered for. They said they didn't feel like an after thought and that they had just as much choice as us non-vegans.
Perfect afternoon tea!
Un grand merci pour votre accueil et pour la qualité du afternoon high tea! Bonne continuation à toute l'équipe! Maria Thomachot Aristizabal
Thank you for a great afternoon tea. The tearoom is really quaint and charming. The main room is more cosy than the entrance room, which appears to have people constantly passing through. The sandwiches are delicious - good bread, interesting and abundant fillings. I think it's a shame that there are two rounds of sandwiches per person. It's not necessary, and it means you get full before you're able to eat any cake! All of the people around me took cake home rather than eating it as part of the experience. How about offering two fillings but half a round each, to make one round per person? The scone was good and a fair size, and the addition of berries on the side feel luxurious. The cake choices are plentiful and it was hard to choose. The Lemon Drizzle is very good, light and tasty with two different types of decoration - buttercream and lemon frosting. The service started well with a good welcome and explanation of the options and how to build your afternoon tea. They seemed to forget me when it was time to order the cake, and I had to go up and ask. Lots of tea and coffee choices, with top ups of hot water provided with a smile.
Such a lovely, cosy and welcoming place to be
Friendly staff, lovely food.
Afternoon tea at Pettigrew is a lovely experience. So much choice for the sandwiches, and all lovely and fresh. The girls gave us the choice of taking our cake home for later (in a biodegradable box) which was a great idea. I love how much variety there is in terms of cake too! I had the blood orange and almond cake, which came recommended by one of the girls and it was absolutely delicious. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a tasty, but not fussy, afternoon tea!
We came to Pettigrew Tea rooms for their afternoon tea for two. We were offered a choice of a wide range of sandwiches both vegetarian and meat and a range of tea from the more exotic to English Breakfast tea. The bread was really fresh and full of flavour. The service and surroundings were as good as the food and drink and the price was very reasonable. We were offered a take home box for the cake as we were too full to eat it at the time. Would highly recommend.
Quick friendly service. Plenty of food. Will definately come again
Lovely afternoon tea, I definitely want to come back and try other things on the menu.
Absolutely beautiful Vegan Afternoon Tea, the scones were to die for. Definately recommend and will be back soon 👍🏼
A wonderful little gem, hidden from the hustle and bustle of the city behind the castle walls. it is well worth the short work for the cozy delicious fare in a quaint and comfortable atmosphere. Very highly recommended.
Best afternoon tea I've ever had!!!
Love the tea cups and saucers and how they are all patterns. Plenty of sandwiches on really fresh bread. Scone was lovely and liked the fact you got to choose your own cake. Only tiny thing that I would improve is I thought the tea would be unlimited didn’t realise I’d have to pay extra for a second pot. Had a really lovely time and would return
Absolutely loved it the scones are so lush
Beautiful vegan afternoon tea. Everything was gorgeous, from the vintage tea and saucers, the vegan selection of sandwiches, huge warm scones, jam and vegan clotted cream. And then the cakes at the end - we had to box them to take away because we had no room, but the cake selection was also outstanding. Beautiful little venue at the edge of the castle and Bute Park. Staff so friendly and lovely too. We will definitely be returning again :) It was my other halfs first afternoon tea and he enjoyed it.
