About Peckham Refreshment Rooms
The Peckham Refreshment Rooms are located in a 1930s Art Deco block backing onto Peckham Rye train station.
The Refreshment Rooms is a neighbourhood restaurant, serving seasonal and regionally conscious British cuisine alongside selected wines and cocktails.
Open day and night we share our joy of food and drink, whether it be coffee or charcuterie, a glass of wine after work or a bottle over dinner.
Lighting very harsh we had to move table. Courgette fritters sold out. Not many vegetarian options for starters. main course came and plonked on table before we had finished starter. Overcharged by £54 our bill for two was just over £100 ( ie correct amount). Reactionvery casual. Service charge taken off but very off hand .
i've marked down on the atmosphere as there was a large party making so much noise i could not actually here my dinner guests. the was little done to try and discourage this table from being so loud which spoilt the evening for other diners. the staff should have taken control so that all in the restaurant could enjoy their evening.
Excellent service. The drinks are second to none and the menu varied and interesting.
What a welcoming haven! Cheers you up even on a Monday evening. Friendly, knowledgeable and g
A super great find. We ordered a bunch of dishes and only one didn’t make the mark. Go on and enjoy some refreshments!
my confit duck was sublime
Delicious food, friendly service and nice vibe
Refreshment rooms is one of our all time favourite spots for dinner. The food is great, the service is always on top, and the place itself is just very cosy and lovely.
Delicious food, quirky and fun restaurant. Great service and atmosphere. Thank you
Great food and lovely wine. Smoked beetroot, cheese ! I wasn’t that keen on the dessert it was very rich-just my personal taste but my friends loved it. I loved the fact Chef was checking on every table himself /fabulous touch
Service was very friendly and attentive, and food great. As someone with coeliac disease, i would have loved if gluten free bread could be provided.
A memorable evening, quite superbly presented. I am quite closely involved with Peckham's history. Events like this contribute to the regeneration of Peckham as a cultural hub. Well done!
Great food and lovely service.
6 of us shared starters and desserts and had a main each, plus some sides. The smoked mackerel starter and venison were my choices, and were eye-rollingly good... The ganache dessert tasted amazing, but maybe could do with a bit of polish with presentation! Wines were good, with a great 'shrub' non-alcoholic drink for the driver, and had a luscious dessert wine to finish. Service was great - friendly, and there when you needed it. Excellent!
Well since you ask, I was actually generally a bit disappointed, as I felt the meal was quite expensive and yet there were some basic things wrong with the cooking, service and portion sizes. Ambience: We didn't enjoy having to shout at each other across the table. It is such a noisy place which didn't create a particularly relaxing ambience for a birthday meal. The waiting was a bit amateur, which would be fine if the meal wasn't so pricey. The waiter kept kicking the back of my chair. And when he was taking the plates away after both courses, he held the balanced plates right next to my face! I had to lean well to the side to avoid getting a plate in the eye. The steak was a very small portion. Serving it sliced is presumably a trick to make us think we have received a bigger portion. The trick didn't work. It was a disappointing amount of meat. My partner who ordered the steak, also ordered a side of dauphinoise potatoes without realising the dish already included a large baked potato. It would've been decent if the waiter had kindly pointed out to him that the steak already came with potato, and perhaps he would like to choose a different vegetable for his side. That is the kind of service I would expect from a thoughtful waiter. Instead my partner ended up with a lot of potato and not much meat! Garlic sautéed kale: the garlic was burned which made it bitter. I thought that was a bit sloppy, it's a pretty basic thing to know not to burn garlic. My vegetarian dish came with charred chicory. Again I found this more burned than charred and could only eat the unburned parts. Does the chef have a thing about charcoal flavours? The smoked mackerel starter was delicious. Great taste and texture. But it was crying out for a bit of bread on the side, for a different texture. It's a bit like serving pate without the toast. But I suppose you would have wanted me to pay extra for bread. Bit mean I thought. Lastly – you need better cutlery. Fish should be served with a fish knife. And my main came with a knife which was smooth like a butter knife – the complete lack of serration made it impossible to cut anything.
Lovely selection of wine and other drinks. Beautifully home made food such as smoked fish and selection of fermented vegetables and pickles. Beautiful interior. What more do I need to say? Thank you for a wonderful evening!
Great food, wine and interior - thank you PRR
Fabulous evening with friends, delicious food and lovely service
I have a broken leg and came wearing a moonboot. The staff were very nice to me and found us a table out of the way of people traffic. The food and service were terrific.
The cocktails and food are delicious and compare well with anywhere in London. The staff are lovely. The venison was fantastic and the wine was excellent too and really good value
Interesting menu, great atmosphere and feels local.
seriously impressed with how many options were gluten free. a little on the pricey side considering the portion sizes. delicious though
We had a lovely evening helped by cocktails & delicious food. I felt the wine is quite expensive for what it is but the food was delicious. All 4 of us enjoyed our meal. We over ordered on the sides & the waiter could have suggested less considerating the portion sizes, the cost & the wastage but that said it was delicious. Dessert was extremely rich & looked tiny on arrival but was fine for 4 to have a small taste of chocolate. The fish was cooked to perfection. Staff were attentive but let us get on with it. I think we were quite loud by the end of the night. I have already recommended it to quite a few friends. We'll be back.
Good food and fantastic service.
