Adventurous modern fine dining in grand, Victorian surrounds
The Peacock Room shimmers with the flounce and frill of old school presentation yet the menu is far from dated. Taking in cuts from the restaurant’s own butchery, crisp British flavours are evident across the board with starters such as seared scallops with pork fritters, or terrine of ham hock and foie gras with pane d’espice. Clever mains follow, along the lines of ‘British Lamb Four Ways’ with beetroot and red veined sorrel or poached halibut with snail fricassee and smoked butter sauce. Tastefully bold desserts include Seville orange crème brulee or on point salted caramel delice with malty Horlicks ice cream. Excellent Valpolicellas and boutique Aussie wines are a feature of the winelist in a setting that’s pure Victorian fantasy.
