About Pavilion Restaurant, Wairakei Resort Taupo
With a wood ceiling and an open-plan layout, the Pavilion Restaurant provides a relaxed ambience for a buffet breakfast as well as à la carte evening bistro dining. The chefs view cooking as a challenge and blend International and New Zealand cuisine with locally sourced produce, such as salmon from Marlborough Sound, grass-fed beef from Northland and herbs from sustainable farms. They deliver tantalizing dishes alongside popular seasonal buffets every weekend. You can pair dinner with New Zealand wines before treating yourself to tempting desserts using fruit grown in the rich soil of the central North Island. On Saturdays, there is a themed buffet, while the Sunday roast is a favourite with the locals.
The very friendly supervisor was Pratik. Our server was Dheeraj - he was very friendly and attentive. He checked to see if we were happy with each of our courses and he cleared our plates soon after we were finished. Excellent service and food. Thank you. Very happy to go again.
We have dined at the Pavillion many times & will be back on Thursday for dinner with friends. Love the surroundings, staff, food. Everything really. In a nice quiet setting without having to go into town. Keep up the good work.
I love trying different foods from around the world...
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the atmosphere and service was excellent. We will definitely be looking at going again.
Great African Buffett. Thanks a lot.
Food was great accompanied by a lovely wine
A very enjoyable Sunday Carvey experience. Thanks to our very friendly and efficient staff member Sonya that looked after us well.
We had Hotel Celebration Package - great value. The breakfast has good selection. Three course a la carte dinner from Pavilion Menu was excellent. This is 3rd time we have had dinner at Pavilion and always beautiful food presentation with good service. Steak cooked exactly to order. Must have very good chefs. Definitely recommended.
Enjoyed everything about this evening’s dining experience
Delicious meals, great service, wait was a bit long but they were busy and we were offerd salads from the buffet for free which we thought was a kind gesture. Definatley be back!
Thanks for the lovely lunch on Sunday. we came for my mothers 61st birthday and not only was the service amazing and the food great, my mother was also presented with a lovely dessert cake for her birthday with a candle on it free of charge . it really made her day. would definitely recommend the pavilion for a family lunch or dinner with great atmosphere
Excellent service and enjoyed the SA themed buffet.
Our family 80th. Birthday celebration dinner was a great success. Good food selection at the Buffet, good service an excellent venue and was enjoyed by all at our table. Will come back again.
This is a favourite place of ours in Taupo, and it never fails to please. The caring staff provide a relaxed environment where your enjoyment is their pleasure. The food is always superb and their menu changes regularly. Their lamb and beef dishes are cooked to perfection, and my recent fish of the day was unbeatable. Starters, sides and desserts are all delicious. Thanks Pavilion!
A wonderful evening, very pleasant, efficient staff and great food.
The African buffet was excellent with a great variety of tasty dishes and condiments. A winner in our book. Thanks.
We are a local family of regulars and have tried most themed buffers including Seafood, Asia, Kiwiana, Roast as well as the buffet breakfast. Unfortunately we won’t be back for Out of Africa Buffet. We didn’t enjoy the food. We were hoping there would some Wairakei resort favourites such as hot chips/ Nuggets for the kids or even some Dessert faves as well - sadly not. Thanks!
Can’t wait til we book for dinner
Staff were very lovely!
We really enjoy the buffet, we like to try a little of almost everything. Things we especially like: Soup - we love the lighter soups that really showcase the care your chef puts into creating your stocks. It’s nice that we’ve also never had the same soup twice. Cold section - the variety of salads is good, great to see the quinoa and some of the more unusual and delicious combinations, e.g. the kale, pear & fennel. Having a cold fish option (prawns) as well as the meats and cheese is particularly appreciated. Roast - love all the vege choices, and your roast potatoes are consistently good. As people who enjoy a ‘balanced healthy plate’ (a rarity when served in a restaurant), being able to choose to have more veg and less meat is one of the benefits we appreciate most about your buffet. It’s lovely to have so many sauces and extras available... lush Yorkshire puddings and crunchy crackling! Desserts - we like there being both a hot dessert and delicious fresh fruit salad available. Tea and coffee - lovely to have these available $45 per head at first sounds like a lot, and for us who approach an evening out as a treat, it is. BUT, if you had a just a main and a dessert anywhere it would easily reach this total. AND, we’ve found we’d rather go out less often and save to visit The Pavilion Restaurant than go elsewhere in town. This is because we can eat what we want (less meat, more variety) and always enjoy the quality of what we get, we’re never disappointed with your buffet. Congratulations to your team - delicious food, great service and lovely atmosphere. One thought: We’ve noticed that when the buffet is particularly busy, there can be a bit of a log-jam at the ice cream, with some people/cultures/age groups perhaps not that knowledgeable on how to use a proper ice cream scoop? Had you considered pre-rolling some curls of ice cream, or when a staff member has a moment free, getting them to pop across and roll some more? Alternatively, putting the s/s hot water container the scoop stands in on an electric cup warmer may keep the water and therefore the scoop at a better temperature to glide easily through the ice cream.
African buffet was great
Great selection of food at the New Orleans buffet. Excellent value!
Food was really good but the corn bread was dry and the waffles tasted like baking powder other than that it was a nice meal
