About Operation Dagger
When it comes to setting an atmosphere of mystery, Operation Dagger scores full marks. Near to the action but not quite, the basement bar is hidden along a back alley at the junction of Club Street and Ann Siang Hill. The entrance – unwashed floor, plain glass door, illegible scribbling on the top – is so nondescript that even the building it’s in doesn’t have a name. It opens to a dingy staircase that leads further down, but it’s the smell that hits you first: an acrid smokiness of burnt herbs.
Headed by Luke Whearty and Aki Nishikura, the bar lies under a cloud of light bulbs and against a backdrop of shelves, on which stand rows of tinted bottles labelled with a grid of faded drawings. (One of the indifferent bartenders explains that they’re a code for each liquid.) In 2015 alone, Operation Dagger was voted Best New Bar at the Singapore Bar Awards and came in the top ten for Best New International Cocktail Bar at Tales of the Cocktail. Proof is in the pudding or, in this case, every one of the duo’s multi-sensory concoctions.
Really enjoyed it, the service was excellent, very friendly and engaging staff!
Enjoyed the whole experience
Great and special place. A Singapore must if you find it!
Potentially a better signage on the streets or tell the patrons where or what to look for. Can be quite confusing. The drinks were definitely on the experimental side of things, quite creative and out there. Unfortunately you’ll have to come with an acquired taste or a thirst for out of the norm cocktails.
Operation Dagger was the best! Kelvin was super friendly and gave us great bar reccomendations! Drinks were great and definitely worth it!
Exceptional service and stunning drinks
Great drinks and good times chatting with the bartenders. Will definitely come again
Awesome evening, had great drinks, good food and great conversations with the bar team. Got a positive wink from my girlfriend. Needless to say, the night was great. ;)
A must see in Singapore
Drinks could have been slightly stiffer. That said, everything else was impeccably spot on, especially the service, and the chilled hiphop tunes. Both these complement the bar's basement location forming a triad of understated perfection.
The best bar!
Brendon and Sasha are absolute bloody legends! Keep an eye out for them Grainwaves and Jumpy's sometime in the next few weeks!! From James and Emerson.
Great ambience and kinda speakeasy-ish. Really fun and novel cocktails. Service is great though it can be sometimes be difficult to get the bartenders' attention. Only downside, the cocktails are quite pricey... but I guess cocktails are generally pricey in such establishments, so nothing's new. A great place to hang out for a drink or two, and to bring friends from overseas.
Great atmosphere, interesting drinks.
Very interesting drinks. Personal preference - Natural wines could be served a tad colder, perhaps in chilled stemware? Same goes with with the chocolate Pinot. Bites were nice, especially the brown butter that came with the bread. Service felt perfunctory from the other bartenders, save for the main Chinese guy who bothered to engage and take time to recommend and explain each individual drink and snack. Nice touch with the washroom CCTV.
Bar tenders were friendly and attentive. Good service rendered!
Good place to chill and have a few unique cocktails
Totally amazing. Had a fantastic conversation with Calvin, and amazing drinks. One of our favorite spots in Singapore, and definitely in our list of most notable bars we've experienced across NYC, London, and Singapore.
The drinks were absolutely delicious, but the problem was that I kept wanting more! The sizes of the drinks are a bit on the small side, and it would be great if they were larger, which would've made it more value for money. But overall would come back again!
Phenomenal service and experience. One of the best bars I have been to.
