Family run independent modern British restaurant serving seasonal, local where possible, produce with good but not stuffy service. Located in a beautiful grade 2 listed building which has been lovingly restored. We also brew our own beer.

Excellent service
Had a very enjoyable evening visiting "On The Green" restaurant. Food and wine was lovely, service very good. Just a little bit pricey for everyday but OK for special occasion.
Dinner Jazz - excellent evening.
Beautiful food and a very friendly and welcoming service through the whole evening, next time we shall make the experience a whole night not just in and out which we both regret now be back soon .
Been here a few times recently and always a lovely time. The menu has some great choices, service is at the right level and of course a sneaky pint of Bottoms Up is always an option. The medley of desserts is a must. Well worth a visit. See you soon ;-)
A totally wonderful evening - real treat - delicious food and perfectly balanced friendly and efficient service. On The Green continues to be a great asset to the Old Town
If I could give 6 stars, I would. Absolutely wonderful food and fantastic service, I cannot fault it. We had a wonderful time here on New Year's Eve and look forward to going again.
We had a really lovely time and celebrated New Year's Eve in style! with a fantastic 8 course meal and brilliant entertainment from Tom and Nate. I fully recommend a visit, you won't be disappointed
Fast and friendly service. Food was very good. Good background music and not too loud, but decor is rather bland.
Lovely meal and welcome as ever - food was perfectly cooked and delicious. It would be nice to see some more full bodied red wines back on the wine list though.
The building is pleasantly Olde Worlde. The decor and fittings immaculate. This restaurant feels special as soon as you arrive, but a high quality fake fire would add a little homeliness and interest; and the lighting, which was a bit cold, could be corrected by a candle or two. The main dish was slightly overcooked - pheasant - while all other items of food and drink were spot on and delicious as well as creative. The complementary - albeit rather small - glass of Prosecco was very welcoming. The room was cold, with just one radiator for a wide area, and we relied on a little fan heater. The table and chairs were nonetheless very comfortable, and there was also no overcrowding of tables. Service was very good - efficient and non-intrusive - and the background music perfectly suited the transition from evening to night time. We would like to return one Sunday - when it is warmer - to experience the live jazz over dinner.
Amazing food and restaurant.
Food was very good. Jazz band was of high standard. The starter and main portion could have been bigger.
The menu changes regularly and it is always great to try something new. The staff are lovely, helpful and have tasted everything, so if you're not sure about something just ask! If you like beer then you HAVE to try the locally brewed Bog Brew Beers, all of them 😁 Great for couples, family and friends. I really like the idea of a local business that uses local produce, so I cannot recommend On The Green enough. Please try it!
Food you excellent Waitress friendly and attentive
Unfortunately, we had dinner on a day when there were only two other people having dinner. The food was excellent and the service attentive. It is difficult to understand why the restaurant is fully booked every night, as it is the best in Stevenage.
as always excellent service and the best food ! loving the seasonal menu
Good choice of music in the background, waiter was very pleasant making for a good atmosphere .
Fantastic food and service as always when dining here.
Excellent food and atmosphere with attentive and friendly service.
Lovely meal, best in Stevenage.
We had a lovely meal, service was great and good value for money. My only criticism would be that it was a bit cold in the restaurant. Otherwise it was lovely xx
Came as there were vegan dishes on the menu and wasn’t disappointed - maybe a few more moving forward? Just a minor thing, was a bit cold, temperature not the food!
Excellent food, beautifully presented, friendly and professional service. Will definitely dine there again.
Great food and service
