Ondine is a proper seafood restaurant, owned by renowned chef, Roy Brett. From the first day that Ondine opened its doors, the aim was to create an atmosphere where people can roll up their sleeves and truly relax. Based in the heart of Edinburgh's historic Old Town, Ondine offers the finest seafood and shellfish from the East Coast of Scotland and beyond.
Since opening in 2009, Ondine has received a number of top awards including AA Restaurant of the Year and Good Food Guide's Scottish Restaurant of the Year. In 2019, Ondine was voted Scottish Restaurant of The Year at The National Restaurant Awards for the second year in a row and came in at the top 50 in the Top 100 Restaurants in the UK. Ondine has also received critical acclaim with The Observer’s Jay Rayner calling Ondine “Edinburgh’s rock”.
Whether you’re looking to indulge in the finest shellfish platter with a glass of champagne or sit at the bar and experience the fun of Oyster Happy Hour where you can sample the best oysters for just £1 a shuck, Ondine has something for everyone to enjoy.
A decade after opening, Roy and the team remain true to their passion, serving the very best fish and shellfish from around the country alongside carefully selected wines and a front of house service with a smile.
A meal I will remember for a while! Great food and great service.
Totally delicious food. Contemporary setting was a treat. Service was good but a little slow at times...but as an American I think we're not used to leisurely service.
It was a very different dining experience which we very much enjoyed. We always visit Ondine when we cometo Edinburgh and have never been disappointed. I thought the last act was superb but two of our party in particular were less impressed with the first act. Nothing detracted from the food however which was as usual sublime.
I would like to say we booked a table for a birthday celebration and we had a wonderful time. The waitress who served us was Carey and an absolute credit to your establishment. She was very attentive and knowledgable about the food and wine as we had many questions. Nothing was too much trouble and she also gave us some birthday truffles for our guest at the end. The atmosphere was very relaxed and I would recommend Ondine to all my friends and family. Great establishment with a friendly team!
Not cheap but for you get what you pay for, service is perfect and nothing is left to chance, vegetarian in our party was wonderfully catered for and everyone in our party of seven was delighted with the whole experience 10/10
my wife and I had a fantastic time on Saturday night . the food was of the highest quality befitting the surroundings and also a credit chef roy brett and his team in the kitchen .but they were outdone done by the front of house staff who were amazing ,we were giving two rounds of drinks on the house firstly for moving to the bar to free a table up no problems we were the givin a another two cocktails by the barman as he and his partner shared them on there first date amazing kindness ,also he had a couple of funny moments which just made us laugh our heads of and will keep us laughing a bit longer.we will be backand will be recommending your wonderful establishment to one and all. yours sincerely john and shona donnelly
We sat at the bar and had a great meal. I would recommend and next time I am in Edinburgh I will definitely go back.
The lunch menu offers good value for money. The oysters were particularly good.
Friendly staff and great food and service
Very nice meal as usual - superb food - lively, friendly atmosphere
Very good experience all round. Charming waiters and nicely presented food.
Fantastic evening, lovely food and great service. You listened when I put on booking form that it was my daughter's birthday, and added a wee touch that made it feel a bit special.
Superbly cooked ingredients of the highest quality (best fried potatoes EVER with the monkfish - beautifully presented pristine oysters, a risotto that managed to have that ideal Italian consistency). Price/Quality is excellent, including the wine list. In short: this is what a seafood restaurant ideally should be. Our best meal in the UK.
Sitting at the Oyster Bar was a great experience. Staff were fantastic.
By far the best restaurant we visited all week. Superb food, great service and not overpriced - we will be back!
I brought two family relatives from New Zealand and they were greatly impressed and in fact said it was by far there best dining experience ever - well done.
Great food although service was indifferent.
Spot on! You have a great formula. Stick with it. My lemon sole was soooo fresh, perfectly cooked, with a tasty garnish. Nice wine list and a front of house team that really looked after us. La Poissonnier.
service was excellent
We had a very fine meal. The fish was excellent and the plating was unusual. The service was great
Love it - great place ... We will be back again soon ... Maybe would enjoy a chance in menu however all the food is great so it's just a minor comment
its was a busy night when we came we got taken to our table drinks order taken, then it seems we got forgotten we had to ask where are drinks were.the food was good, the service was below what I excpected. There was nothing personal in the service we just two in the crowd,We aslo asked if the air conditioning could be turned down as we were cold we were told it was done ,I don't think,so.. my husband had to put his jumper on. Its the first time in a luxury restaurant that we did not tip Our experience could have been oh so much better and a little more special ,with better customer service
Fantastic meal, would love to return next time we're in Edinburgh. The only thing that would improve things would be better directions to the restaurant. Next to the Missoni Hotel would be a big help!
Loved the Gatzpacho with crab meat and the linguine vongole was tasty although it lacks the white wine jus I'm used to. I had to ask for my bill twice before being presented with it.
