OKLAVA is a contemporary Turkish restaurant jointly operated by Selin Kiazim and Laura Christie. In Turkish an ‘oklava’ is a traditional rolling pin which is used to make breads, pastries and pides all of which feature on our menu alongside Selin’s modern take on Turkish-Cypriot fare. Our open kitchen act as a theatre stage where guests can sit around the bar and spectate as the chefs use a stone oven and real charcoal grill, known as a mangal in Turkish to prepare their meals.
The food is complemented by a wine list focused on wines of Turkey. The ethos of the list is that wines are selected for their quality first and geographical origin second, we are proud to be showcasing some fantastic wines from the most exciting producers of one of the oldest wine growing regions of the world.
Both Laura and Selin are inspired by the London restaurant scene, flavours from travels and from fellow chefs and restaurateurs. The aim of Oklava is to push traditional boundaries and pull Turkish cuisine out of the kebab shop and onto the London restaurant scene.
We loved it - delicious food and wine , very friendly service . We liked the way each dish came one at a time and we didn’t feel rushed and got to savour all the tastes . Thank you very much
Food and service were fantastic, my only minor complaint was tha £6 for the bread and honey is too much.
Absolutely scrumptious. The best. End of.
honestly blown away. the food was fresh and zingy and had such a wonderful array of flavors. the staff were all very helpful and made us feel very at home and helped navigate the menu in an informative and nonpatronising way. being able to see the chefs in the room with us was a great way to feel in amongst everything and gave the restaurant a good vibe and energy. would I recommend this to a friend..? Well I already have sent out the link to most my colleagues and friends so that's a definitive yes!
For the most part we found the experience at Oklava very rewarding. The food and service were excellent, the only slight negative was that we had the sharing menu and my wife did ask beforehand if anything was really spicy!!....when the sheftali came she could not eat it as it was really too strong and I could just about manage myself. Also I did ask if anything could be done for us when I booked as this was a special occasion, our 10 year anniversary however no mention of this arose during our time there. Apart from that we would love to come back and also try the sister restaurant soon.
Delicious and authentic food, would recommend to friends as the atmosphere is great for socialising and the cocktails are pretty special too!
We visited Oklava for the first time. I just want to say that the food was outstanding! Thank you so much for introducing Turkish Cypriot food to the people of London, this standard of food was definately missing. We loved the modern twist and everything dish we ate was so amazing! Me and my husband are foodies and not easily impressed and i am turkish cypriot but Selin has created an exceptional menu and with great kitchen staff. Thank you, thank you! We’ll be back.
Lovely service and nice venue however sadly the 'oclava menu' was very sweet, bread heavy and generally not up to the standard that I would have expected from the reviews.
Excellent food and service, we will return soon
Love this place!
Excellent meal, very tasty food. Good value drinks and so much flavour in the food. Was amazing to watch the food coming out the kitchen
Cocktails were very average; food was great. Wine was very nice but extremely expensive. Meal overall was very pricey - £150 for two, for food, a carafe wine and a cocktail each is extremely dear.
all great but very noisy on this particular visit
Great food, atmosphere and friendly service.
Beautiful food and lovely experience.
Lovely lovely lunch in the best spot in Shoreditch - amazing service & heavenly food!
Great experience and unexpected flavours of Turkish cuisine. Octopus pita was amazing!
great value with 25% off in January. All the dishes were great - although missed the lamb breast!
Great food, great value, good service
Amazing flavours but drinks are poor and portions are too small for the price
Fantastic service and food, looking forward to coming back
Excellent food - exquisite taste and very creative dishes, we really enjoyed ourselves. The service was very attentive and friendly as well - cannot fault them at all. Highly recommended!
Absolutely delicious food and very reasonably priced. I will be back!
The food was great but I was disappointed to realise after that we didn't get our 25% discount.
The food was very tasty on the whole, with the cauliflower a highlight along with the kebab. The octopus pide, at £21 was a great disappointment; it tasted nice but only nice and at that price it should have been superlative, but my main problem was the tiny amount of octopus actually in the dish. It was the most expensive piece of bread I have ever had! Unfortunately that dish left a taste in my mouth somewhat different I have to assume to the one intended.
