OKLAVA is a contemporary Turkish restaurant jointly operated by Selin Kiazim and Laura Christie. In Turkish an ‘oklava’ is a traditional rolling pin which is used to make breads, pastries and pides all of which feature on our menu alongside Selin’s modern take on Turkish-Cypriot fare. Our open kitchen act as a theatre stage where guests can sit around the bar and spectate as the chefs use a stone oven and real charcoal grill, known as a mangal in Turkish to prepare their meals.
The food is complemented by a wine list focused on wines of Turkey. The ethos of the list is that wines are selected for their quality first and geographical origin second, we are proud to be showcasing some fantastic wines from the most exciting producers of one of the oldest wine growing regions of the world.
Both Laura and Selin are inspired by the London restaurant scene, flavours from travels and from fellow chefs and restaurateurs. The aim of Oklava is to push traditional boundaries and pull Turkish cuisine out of the kebab shop and onto the London restaurant scene.
My favourite restaurant in London
Staff were brilliant - friendly and knew their stuff. And the food was amazing, we'll definitely be back.
Great place, lovely staff and wonderful food. Can’t wait to come back!
We had an unforgettable and very pleasant dining experience. The food was absolutely smashingly delicious, the service was great, professional and very friendly and the restaurant itself is nice, warm and cosy. It is very impressive to look into the open kitchen, to see how they prepare the wonderfull food! Thanks so much for the great evening!
The best meal I've had for years, if not ever. And it was the same for my dinner companion. The only useful feed-back as to improvements on food, we thought that the cauliflower could have done with more of its toppings inside as well, as it were... Apart from that it was a dream, it was beyond perfection, took us to realms we didn't know existed. Downsides: really noisy. You need more space, more booths perhaps? Also, the strict 2 hour booking felt a bit constrained. It was a Tuesday night after all. Especially since it doesn't come cheap. But overall: this is where we're going to go: not only to Oklava the restaurant but Oklava the cooking style, we'll be cooking it soon. [ I wanted to buy the book (LRB said they had send their copies back since no-one was buying them????).] For us, onwards and upwards, Oklava all the way.
Fantastic service, our waitress really sold the food to us!
Literally one of the most amazing meals I’ve had in London. Beautiful and funny people working and absolutely lovely decor and atmosphere. Would highly recommend for anyone wanting incredible Turkish food. Can’t get better Turkish anywhere!
End-to-end enjoyment. Loved it.
Absolutely stunning food- a rare veggie haven. It’s not cheap, but every mouthful was an absolute delight. And to top it all, the team went the extra mile to really make my visit special.
We really loved our meal! We had the tasting menu and everything from the bread to the pudding was fantastic. Service was great and the atmosphere in the restaurant was really good. I would recommend Oklava to anyone looking for something different. Thanks Oklava. We will be back
Loved the grilled hellim and lahmacun. I don't think the lamb/pomegranate molasses combo works though. Service was really attentive which was lovely. The food also arrived at a good pace so a good experience overall!
Very friendly service - a nice experience. Thank you.
The Oklava counter, watching the chefs at work and looked after by such great front of house staff, is our go-to place in Shoreditch. Perfectly cooked, delicious and fresh Turkish-Cypriot food in a cosy, comfortable environment!
Really helpful front of house woman changed our seating on request. Great staff all round.
Buzzy atmosphere, innovative food...couldn't fault any aspects of it!
Vibey youngish crowd enjoy lively atmosphere shared with modern refined Turkish fare - not your local kebbabish- seats at the bar are entertaining- our waitress was a pleasure. Food was delicious
We called on the day of the reservation and increased our number of guests from four to seven. This was accommodated but we were told we would have to have the set menu, which was fine. We arrived on time for our 2115 reservation but were not served any food for over thirty minutes. The food was excellent. However, after the desserts were cleared we were not offered coffee. When we asked for coffee at 2325, we were first told it was fine, then were told the restaurant closes at 2330 and the hostess was just about to bring us the bill. I realize the restaurant is busy and I appreciate the accommodation of a last minute change. However, the delay in being served anything (even olives would have been a nice gesture) coupled with the fact that we were basically asked to leave after trying to order a coffee left a bad taste in my mouth. I know the restaurant is busy but I did not feel there was any sense of appreciation for the £420 we spent.
I've had 'traditional' Turkish/Cypriot food before, but this truly elevates it. We considered the fixed menu but had two folks in our party who didn't eat red meat and one of the main dishes in it was lamb, so we just went a la carte. My suggestion -- have a big enough group that you can try pretty much everything on the menu!
This is one of the best meals I have had in London. Everything was perfect. The service was efficient but more importantly very friendly. The Irish waitress was brilliant. I am still talking about the lambs breast dish, it was stunning. Will be returning very soon for sure!!!
Amazing delicious food in a nice cosy restaurant with a good vibe. We had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated as the table we had booked the guests were still there but once we were seated the hostess came over with some complementary bubbles - really nice touch that made the whole experience even better. Excellent warm service from the staff. Will definitely be coming back and telling others to come !
One of the best meals we have had out in 2018. The special when we attended, a slow cooked beef shin pie, was quite literally unbelievable. The service was excellent, both the waiters we had were incredibly friendly and really helpful in explaining the bill.
Always good. Will be back again soon.
