About Oklava Shoreditch
OKLAVA is a contemporary Turkish restaurant jointly operated by Selin Kiazim and Laura Christie. In Turkish an ‘oklava’ is a traditional rolling pin which is used to make breads, pastries and pides all of which feature on our menu alongside Selin’s modern take on Turkish-Cypriot fare. Our open kitchen act as a theatre stage where guests can sit around the bar and spectate as the chefs use a stone oven and real charcoal grill, known as a mangal in Turkish to prepare their meals.
The food is complemented by a wine list focused on wines of Turkey. The ethos of the list is that wines are selected for their quality first and geographical origin second, we are proud to be showcasing some fantastic wines from the most exciting producers of one of the oldest wine growing regions of the world.
Both Laura and Selin are inspired by the London restaurant scene, flavours from travels and from fellow chefs and restaurateurs. The aim of Oklava is to push traditional boundaries and pull Turkish cuisine out of the kebab shop and onto the London restaurant scene.
Great food and really interesting drinks. Highlights included the spiced cauliflower, grilled hellim in honey, fresh bread with medjool date butter and fantastic flavour combinations in the cocktail/mocktails. Turkish Red wine was very pleasant. Left feeling very well fed.
Delicious, interesting, new and yet somehow familiar. Just yum. Nothing even remotely disappointed and that was with a set menu. The Kanafeh / Knefe (sp?) is a true lick-the-plate sweet and savoury wonder. Only annoying thing is a Turkish-only wine list and no champagne. Perhaps that’s myopic of me - the wine was fine but unremarkable.
5th time to Oklava, my boyfriend and I love this restaurant! Amazing food, service and atmosphere as always!

Amazing as always! The date butter is unreal
We loved the food, we thought the menu could be a little less rich and a bit lighter but that’s just personal preference- overall it was delicious! The service was as great as always. One thing that surprised and worried us was that none of the waiters and only one of the chefs was wearing a mask and none were wearing gloves. That made us feel a little less safe in the venue.

Oklava was our first trip back to a restaurant during lockdown and it didn’t disappoint! Really liked the set menu as we liked the smaller portions as it meant you could try more.
Food was delicious and it was brilliant being able to try so many wines by the glass, however we thought the price point for the wine was a little steep. We will happily come back to eat again, but this time share a bottle rather than glasses.

I’ve been wanting to eat here for ages and clearly for good reason. I can’t decided what was better between the food and the service, but unfortunately I missed getting our servers name (who was absolutely charming) so I’ll have to made do with mentioning the standout dishes instead. The hellim is exceptional, the whipped feta crostini was a real gem, the bread is fab and the pide is just ridiculously good. Basically- get everything! Can’t wait to come back here...

Fantastic service, delicious food. The bread and date butter to die for. The mackerel was so succulent. Snd your puddings were to die for. Probably the best desserts i have had ever! The ice cream and ganache - can you bottle it?! I could have licked the plate. And that alongside warm syrup cake with clotted cream and cherries. Give the chefs a gold star

The food was both innovative forTurkish Cypriot cuisine and extremely tasty. My 1 criticism is that the main course, marinated octopus pide + small salad, was very expensive at £21, considering it was no bigger than a commercial pitta bread and was not overloaded with filling.

I became aware of this place when seeing Selin on the Great British Menu and have been meaning to go for a few years now. I went with a friend and we had the Oklava Menu. Everything we had was exceptional, even the cauliflower which I generally despise was lovely. The highlight had to be the beef kebab wrapped in beef fat. The service was great, everything was well explained and we had some good wine recommended to us, had reservations about drinking a red wine chilled... But I'm glad we took his advice. I will be back next time I'm in London. Thank you for a great experience. Simon.
