About Number 5
Welcome to Number 5 restaurant. Located in the heart of Auckland City Centre, it has been a staple of the fine dining scene for over 40 years. We invite you to join us for an unforgettable dining experience in our elegant, yet comfortable dining space overlooking the city skyline.
Best food I've had in Auckland. Great friendly service. 5 stars
Had a wonderful birthday dinner. The astmosphere was peaceful and relaxing. Our waiter was the owner, he was so friendly, knowledgeable and couldn’t fault the service. The tofu mushroom starter was amazing, as were the burrata and kingfish. The wagu was one of my favourite dishes, the flavours of all the components were spot on! The pork belly was also fantastic, very rich and delish! Will be back, thanks so much!
What a great find. Greeted in the foyer and ushered into a cosy dining area with a view of the Sky Tower. Started with a cocktail each and then served some sourdough and brown butter. So delicious and whipped until fluffy. The starters arrived looking beautiful and after a careful explanation, we took our first mouthfuls. Bursting with flavours, we both looked up at each other, not needing to say anything. It was all there in the facial expression. We got to the end and were whispering how amazing the combination of flavours were. The dilemma was should we have a single mouthful, or combine multiple items from the plate in a single bite? Now the mains. While the pork belly didn't have the traditional crackling, it had been cooked so well, it melted in your mouth. The beef had been slow cooked even longer. Any nervousness about the choice of cut went with the first slice into the meat. The deep fried greens were a nice addition to the plate and palette, giving a new texture. Both desserts were ordered and both delivered in style. Not too sweet, nicely balanced. This diner will be back again. Forget heading to Europe for a Michelin star restaurant. Auckland has the equivalent right here and complements to the chef on serving us one of the best meals and dining experiences we've had. We will be back to try some of the other menu options.
Amazing food, each bite is a delightful experience. Lovely calm atmosphere. Great service from an attentive waiter.
Our first visit here - wonderful service, beautiful setting, stunning food! The special cocktails menu was an added bonus. Only suggestion for improvement would be, could the bathrooms be a little warmer...other than that we loved this experience, we would highly recommend it and we will definitely be returning.
Wow! Great place to celebrate a birthday after lockdown! Beautiful setting, superb food - the Wagyu steak was so tender and the dessert was divine. The Complementary sourdough bread and burnt butter was a lovely introduction to a fabulous meal. Attentive service through the evening made for a memorable meal.
We had the perfect dining experience We were hoping for. The food was exceptional and very unique. The atmosphere is warm, inviting and intimate. Thank you!
Had a lovely dinner. The presentation of the food and the service are superb. Beautiful blends of tastes and unusual ingredients. The prices are on the high end. We were dining on a special deal which was good value for money, however full prices are quite high. The menu has quite narrow selection, not sure everyone would be able to find a fit. Be sure to check the menu before you go and see if it works for you. If you are after simple food, that's not the right place for you. It's everything but simple. The atmosphere is pleasant and quiet. Could use a bit more investment in decor but I guess it's a personal preference and many would appreciate the simplicity. Overall great experience and will be back
Absolutley lovely place. Food & wine was amazing. 1st night out after lock down and couldnt have picked a better place. I hope people support this restaurant through these times.
Had a great dinner, unfortunately it was almost empty due to Covid. Had the 5 course menu, worth every penny. Our host is also the chef and took the time to explain every dish. Would have loved to go back but ran out of time.
My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Number 5, last night. We were lucky to be served by the owner, Jack Costi, and his lovely wife. Jack's passion for food and his attention to detail is amazing. Even the crockery and glassware are beautiful ! Plus, his mother-in-law created some of the artwork in the restaurant. Number 5 deserves to be visited by anyone who wants to enjoy delicious, creative, beautiful food in a stunning setting. I dined at Number 5 in it's heyday... and, today it is EVEN BETTER than I remember! You will NOT be disappointed! We will return!
Excellent and very very enjoyable
Lovely food and am amazing waiter. Was a beautiful evening
The Lamb dish was delicious and very well cooked but the inclusion of the Tuatua didn't really add anything to the dish
One of the best restaurants we ate in Auckland. Excellent atmosphere, very good food and very pleasant company. It was our first time but definitely not the last time. We'll come again..
The food is very nice and absolutely 6* service. We love the place.
Service excellent, food real, flavorful, excellent presentation. The feeling to come to a great restaurant and you have nothing to say apart that you finish the night happy, You Feel like coming back over and over again. Congratulations Jack and Thanks to you and the team for such a wonderful night.
A wonderful dinner. Outstanding food and service. We will be back
We visited on Valentines night and enjoyed every minute of our dining experience. The Manager Liedo abd his two staff were great despite the fact the staff had only recently started and also only arrived in the country. A warm friendly atmosphere and a special touch a red rose on each guests table setting.
This was our first visit to the “new” Number 5 and wow - it was exceptional - gorgeous food, stunning decor that is faithful to the “old” Number 5 and, best of all, attentive and charming service. We will see you next time.
In the past three months we have dined at several restaurants of a comparable standard to Number 5: Lillius, Sid at the French Cafe, Siddart, and also Cassia, which is a much more casual place. Casual, but Cassia does a very good set menu with wine matchings, so I've included it. Cassia's offering is excellent, but it's a bustling, noisy, dimly-lit basement room that is rather challenging for an elderly person - it's very difficult to hear each other and the wait staff. All the rest have calm, luxe dining rooms. At Lillius, The French Cafe and Siddart the serving staff are professional and expert, but we particularly enjoyed an excellent rapport and the personal service offered your Maitre d'/Sommelier/Waiter. He is outstanding. He really made our night. He is a master of New Zealand wine knowledge. Your food offering, too, (as with all the restaurants mentioned) is excellent - a great choice of dishes, beautifully prepared and served and, I must say, generous servings. And Number Five's panoramic outlook across the city is a real treat. It's interesting that all these restaurants are in rather unassuming parts of town.
Our 40th wedding anniversary celebrations were fabulous, thank you so much! Delicious food, great wines and brilliant staff - friendly and thoughtful. Thank you for accommodating the dietary differences at times and setting up the audio stuff, and being there for our every need! Mild disappointment between quantity of pork belly size compared to generous steak menu. Everyone raved about their meals though. The kale was delicious! Thank you for everything.
Dinner was outstanding. The chef did wonderful job. He is the new owner of the restaurant and definitely takes things to heart. We are visiting but would encourage anyone to go here.
My husband and I ordered both of the tasting menus (3 course and 5 course) to share and the chef was kind enough to split everything for us on two plates. The food was all amazing, the service wonderful and the course descriptions were interesting and helpful. If we were here longer in Auckland, we'd definitely go back! Well worth the price!!
Delicious food and a lot of care and attention taken to everything. Would thoroughly recommend
