About Number 5
Welcome to Number 5 restaurant. Located in the heart of Auckland City Centre, it has been a staple of the fine dining scene for over 40 years. We invite you to join us for an unforgettable dining experience in our elegant, yet comfortable dining space overlooking the city skyline.
The food is very nice and absolutely 6* service. We love the place.
Service excellent, food real, flavorful, excellent presentation. The feeling to come to a great restaurant and you have nothing to say apart that you finish the night happy, You Feel like coming back over and over again. Congratulations Jack and Thanks to you and the team for such a wonderful night.
A wonderful dinner. Outstanding food and service. We will be back
We visited on Valentines night and enjoyed every minute of our dining experience. The Manager Liedo abd his two staff were great despite the fact the staff had only recently started and also only arrived in the country. A warm friendly atmosphere and a special touch a red rose on each guests table setting.
This was our first visit to the “new” Number 5 and wow - it was exceptional - gorgeous food, stunning decor that is faithful to the “old” Number 5 and, best of all, attentive and charming service. We will see you next time.
In the past three months we have dined at several restaurants of a comparable standard to Number 5: Lillius, Sid at the French Cafe, Siddart, and also Cassia, which is a much more casual place. Casual, but Cassia does a very good set menu with wine matchings, so I've included it. Cassia's offering is excellent, but it's a bustling, noisy, dimly-lit basement room that is rather challenging for an elderly person - it's very difficult to hear each other and the wait staff. All the rest have calm, luxe dining rooms. At Lillius, The French Cafe and Siddart the serving staff are professional and expert, but we particularly enjoyed an excellent rapport and the personal service offered your Maitre d'/Sommelier/Waiter. He is outstanding. He really made our night. He is a master of New Zealand wine knowledge. Your food offering, too, (as with all the restaurants mentioned) is excellent - a great choice of dishes, beautifully prepared and served and, I must say, generous servings. And Number Five's panoramic outlook across the city is a real treat. It's interesting that all these restaurants are in rather unassuming parts of town.
Our 40th wedding anniversary celebrations were fabulous, thank you so much! Delicious food, great wines and brilliant staff - friendly and thoughtful. Thank you for accommodating the dietary differences at times and setting up the audio stuff, and being there for our every need! Mild disappointment between quantity of pork belly size compared to generous steak menu. Everyone raved about their meals though. The kale was delicious! Thank you for everything.
Dinner was outstanding. The chef did wonderful job. He is the new owner of the restaurant and definitely takes things to heart. We are visiting but would encourage anyone to go here.
My husband and I ordered both of the tasting menus (3 course and 5 course) to share and the chef was kind enough to split everything for us on two plates. The food was all amazing, the service wonderful and the course descriptions were interesting and helpful. If we were here longer in Auckland, we'd definitely go back! Well worth the price!!
Delicious food and a lot of care and attention taken to everything. Would thoroughly recommend
Fine dining is not a common occurrence for me, however I found Number 5 to be welcoming from the first interaction. Amazing service and impeccable food. I did not have a meal, I had a journey through the tastes and delights of New Zealand.Thank you so much for making my first experience of fine dining memorable. I highly recommend this hidden gem.
Had an excellent degustation, beautifully presented. Great new chef/owner. We wish him well in this new venture.
An excellent dining experience, food, presentation, our waiter’s knowledge and attentiveness and the chef’s exceptional culinary skills made for a great dining experience.
It was our first restaurant in New Zealand and absolutely perfect!!!
It’s the summer holidays in New Zealand, so my wife and I were fortunate to get a reservation during our Honeymoon. The restaurant was intimate and gave us the best culinary experience we’ve ever had. The service, ambiance, and food were all spectacular. We did a customized tasting with wine pairings and the beef carpaccio, Kingfish, Burrata, and Wagyu hanger steak were some of our favorites. The wine pairings were expertly matched as well. Also, don’t skip dessert! We can’t say enough positive things about our experience and would recommend to anyone.
Exquisite food. We had the vegan 3 course meal which was a clever combination of flavours. Our wine sommelier had a great knowledge of wine was able to bring us a bottle exactly to our taste. Quiet time of year with a new owner but I am sure once they are discovered will be well supported.
Outstanding experience! Ledio was extremely welcoming and informative. We thoroughly enjoyed meeting him. It made our evening.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience with No. 5 and it made our celebration with our granddaughter very special. Thankyou
Royal service and an orgy of flavours and textures. The colours and presentation were a work of art in particular the carpaccio. The mushrooms taste was irresistible and matching beautifully the Maude Pinot Noir. The rose sorbet capped a sensational dinner. 10/10
Really enjoyed the experience. Food is amazing and the attention to detail is fantastic
Great food and service, nice job on the renovations
Excellent evening and very impressed by all. Leido was outstanding and you were all so accomodating especially with the dietary requirements of one of our party. Good luck, I’m sure you will excel and I and the others will be back. Cheers Justine
Hi Justine, thanks for the great review, we are glad that you enjoyed your dinner. Kind regards Jack
It was a special occasion dinner (we went on our first date at No.5 forty years ago to the day) on a Tues so was very quiet. We were given a complementary glass of Prosesco which was a lovely touch. We were surprised at how few choices there were on the menu but were impressed with what they had to offer. We weren't expecting complementary hors d'oeuvres either but out came these amazingly tasty, beautifully presented morsels. Then our entrees and mains were equally as great, not big portions, and we were thankful for that because the flavours were rich and like a taste explosion, a lot of thought has gone into their menu. I wish we'd had room for dessert. We were the last to leave (just like 40 years ago) and the chef came out to have a chat. The service needs a slight tweaking, we had to ask for more wine and water glasses weren't kept topped up but he was a very pleasant fellow.
Hi Richard, thank you so much for the kind review, Looking forward to host your next Anniversary. Jack
We were treated like we were the only people in the room. The food is exquisite and the service was exceptional. We are telling all our friends about the amazing night we had. The chef/owner came out to speak to us at the end of our meal and we understood how his passioin for food had translated to our meals. Just outstanding.
Hi Julie! Thank you so much for the lovely review. I'm glad that you enjoyed your night with us. Looking forward to see you again and talk about fermentation. Jack
