About Northbank Restaurant and Bar
Northbank was created and opened by Christian Butler (ex-Adam Street and Baltic) in September 2007 and offers a Modern British menu with a Cornish influence showcasing exceptional ingredients sourced from Christian’s hometown of Falmouth and surrounding areas of Cornwall in the south of England. Fresh fish is delivered daily sourced from day boats off the Cornish coast.
The view from Northbank's private terrace encompasses some of London’s most iconic landmarks including the South Bank with Shakespeare's Globe, Tate Modern and The Shard linked to the north by the “wobbly” Millennium Bridge. St Paul's Cathedral is just a short walk from the restaurant. Northbank’s prime riverside location attracts City workers, locals and tourists alike and we look forward to welcoming you soon.
Cocktails were great. Food was way too reliant on butter for flavour and therefore lacked flavour and was too rich for my taste. The upsell from the waitstaff became a bit annoying and glaringly obvious after the 3rd attempt. Location is amazing and staff were really friendly and accommodating otherwise.
Fantastic setting, friendly staff and excellent food - recommended
Amazing restaurant with beautiful view!
Just a lovely evening, last minute.com thank you Lydia X
The food was amazing! Very disappointing service and really ruined the whole experience to be honest.
Excellent service - polite and professional.
A delicious lunch with attentive lovely service, one of my most favourite restaurants!
Great to see the Cornish influence. How about stocking some of the more decent non alcoholic wines or beers? Non drinkers deserve something other than juices with high sugar content. All of the service staff were very friendly and efficient.
The food was good, although I specifically asked when ordering the crab whether it was just a plain whole crab or if it was going to be baked crab mixed with other ingredients. The waitress ensured me it was a plain baked crab with butter, which is what I wanted, however when it came, sure enough, it was baked crab that I didn't really want. The service speed for our main course was also very slow. It took us over two hours to have two courses served. The food was great quality, but service needed improvement.
The food was great, but the service was incredibly slow. The place wasn't busy either. We had no time for dessert or coffee which was a shame for us and meant they lost our on money. I would go there again, but only if I planed to spend a lot of time there. It was a sunny day and some of the people on the table were sweltering in the window with the sun.
Amazing restaurant with one of the best customer service I have ever received 👏🏾👏🏾
Lydia and her team went out of their way to make our evening with you most enjoyable. We really appreciated the personal attention. Northbank has served us well for a decade and the standards continue to be very high.
Lovely dinner - restaurant was quiet and good service.
Very good value 2-3 course menu. Perfect pre theatre
Had a great experience. Was able to enjoy a quick drink on the Terrace prior to dinner on a Friday evening in September. The set menu idea is a great one, and the food was fantastic. I think it is just a shame that as a party of four, we were unable to split the table and some have the a la carte and others the set menu. You may have actually made more money that way!
We were only given the dinner menu for September which was very limited. I didn't want any of the starters so ordered the crab and potato doughnuts, nice but not a real starter. I chose the slow cooked flank of beef for main course and whilst the meat was very nice, there was so little of it due to the huge amount of fat. Of course I know flank has fat so a bigger slice was needed. The only vegetables available seemed to be peas and beans, why no seasonal 'greens'. The choice of the four desserts did not really appeal either. So limited. Where was the a la carte menu?? It seemed to me we were being offered the set menu which is availabe for around £25 or so. Wine and service were excellent, lovely friendly staff. Such a shame about the food. I have visited for lunch before and enjoyed the food very much. Disappointing
Had the Friday set menu which was delicious and ordered a bottle of white wine which we thought was one of the best wines we had had in a long while. Service was attentive and friendly. Would happily go again for the view of south bank
Delicious variety of flavours and great service. I will definitely be going back to try other meals on the menu.
Excellent restaurant in a great place with lovely views over the river. The service was excellent and the food divine. Definitely recommend.
A lovely evening meal with my mum and husband. We were there to celebrate my mum's birthday and the occasion was just what we wanted. We had had a full day so we're delighted to enjoy the delicious food in a calm restaurant on The Thames with a superb view. The location is perfect and the food exceeded expectations. The manager was warm and friendly when we arrived and our waitress was courteous and efficient. I phoned prior to our visit to say it was.my mum's birthday. They said they would happily provide a birthday dessert plate for her. If transpired my mum and I wanted to share a cheese plate instead of dessert but they still marked the occasion by bringing out a happy birthday plate with a candle and few brownies. I was so pleased they remembered even though my mum didn't choose a dessert. We had a lovely evening and we will definetly return and recommend the restaurant to others.
We love this restaurant. We come a few times a year for special occasions. However, we were most disappointed- no one offered to take our coats, we didn't get any bread (which is a lovely touch usually), our waitress was quite rude (and was so to another table) and no one bothered to visit us again after we had finished our desert. It's a real shame, we probably will look somewhere else now. Very sad.
Lovely evening....particularly excellent service! Everyone of your staff are delightful. The recommended wine of the day was delicious, Finca Nueva Rioja. Food fine though chips a bit soggy. Spectacular view!
This is a unfussy restaurant serving great food . Very relaxed and enjoyable
