About No.131 The Promenade
Classic on the outside, contemporary British on the inside, located in the heart of Cheltenham. Traditional classics & modern European dishes showcase the best seasonal ingredients in the restaurant. All ingredients are sourced and gathered locally wherever possible but always from British lands and shores.
Very slow service and got food order wrong. Prices seem to have increased quite a bit too.
Great food and atmosphere. Service was quite slow considering it was quiet.
Never thought that a Birthday booking could be managed like we experienced. Miles from being professional, unwelcoming. We have been told that we can choose the area and a table, we chose one near the window and receptionist said that is not ready, but we liked the table and said that we are willing to wait until is ready (only a quick wipe was needed). Waiter wiped it with wet cloth and left it like that, table was still wet and I had to find someone and ask for a dry cloth to dry it. Probably was the manager. After it was we sat down and after few moments checking menu online we decided to have water first and cocktails. Waiter brought us water and two glasses, glasses was not clean, some water marks and finger prints, doesn’t looked nice. Then manager (probably) fixed it and brought clean glasses. After ordering cocktails it took really a while and already wanted to escape from the place, too many red flags. Cocktails arrived after some time and they were fine and tasty. Also some people were walking around in a labour uniforms (like those fixing the place or interior jobs). Manager were checking alarm system. It felt that we are at the back of house, not front of house. Later I decided not to continue in the place and didn’t order any food. Just finish our cocktails. I had to look for someone and as for our bill. Yet again I had to look for someone when I wanted to pay a bill. What we received I felt I have massively overpaid and we been charged service charge (never would pay for this service). After I paid my bill in the corridor next to exit manager just told us thanks after all our experience and bye. Wow. I was shocked by ignorance of the staff and that was birthday booking, first time in Cheltenham and first place in Cheltenham. Never coming back again, never. We moved to Ivy Montpellier later and it was from 0 to 100, had a great time, prices I think even better, service fantastic, beautiful and great atmosphere. So I don’t know how it works in your place, but you are failing with this kind of service and atmosphere. I had worked in restaurant and hospitality business, but I even didn’t need to try spot anything, was too obvious. I really believe you could do much much better than this, because location and place looks nice, from a website I got wrong impression obviously (was too nice before coming).
Dined here last night for my birthday and the food was lovely and staff were really attentive. We went down to gin and juice after and had such a great evening in there the bar staff were very welcoming and the service fantastic!
Visited you yesterday for the first time since race week and I must say that the staff were all fabulous, charming and very attentive. The team that were on really worked well together and the latte coffee was just as we asked. Had a great chat with Phillip
Well done to all the staff. Very professional and well organised.
We will chalk it up to covid-19 and early days back but we were really disappointed. A reduced menu is completely understandable but when 4 of the 8 mains on the reduced menu aren't available it's very dissapointig. We weren't told this when we sat down but only after we had drinks and tried to order. Normally we wouldn't stay but given the current situation we did. We have visited 131 a few times now and the food has been dissapointig.
Always well looked after here and great to bring clients too
A fantastic Post lockdown short break. The room was very comfortable. The Gin and Juice Bar was atmospheric with a very knowledgeable bar man. Eating outside under heaters made it feel like you were on holiday. And the Eggs Benedict at breakfast was one of the best.
Staff were sloppy in their observation of social distancing with an utter flouting of the one metre rule. There was an unfortunate situation with my father who was rude to a waitress when he discovered that there were no oysters - it was the first time he had left his house since my step mother died and he was anxious and somewhat impatient. I apologised for his behaviour, her response was that if he cannot behave appropriately then he should not come out .... I will never visit any of your properties again. Yes he was rude but sometimes staff have to think beyond the immediate and consider the circumstances.
Needs a better booking App . Open table was far easier to use . The new one is dire.
Wonderful meal as always, our waiter was amazing, perfectly discreet and helpful, thank you for this lovely evening and see you soon.
While the food was really good we do feel it is on the high side of pricing. We were really impressed with the social distancing without it being too obvious.
Incredible hotel & all round venue. Sensational service. Will 💯 be back.
Extremely disappointed and didn’t eat for numerous reasons. Waiting staff were rude, menu choice was poor. When requested a Sunday Roast as advertised on the menu was blankly told no. Left due to feeling so disappointed
All of the members of staff were very accommodating and went out of their way to make myself and other guests feel comfortable dining in the new circumstances. Social distancing was adhered too, with plenty of space between tables and hand sanitiser available. The food was very tasty and glasses of Pimms just as great.
We were left waiting for drinks despite lots of staff and being relatively quiet.
Excellent that you're open again!
We all thought the meal was great except for the coconut pannacotta which tasted very grainy and was therefore inedible. Such a shame as we had a very enjoyable time.
Amazing, would highly recommend! Only thing was that service was a bit slow, we waited a while to get our food but it was reopening day so I'm guessing things were getting back to normal.
Great atmosphere and not weird due to all the restrictions right now. I like how normal it felt. Wine could have been colder. But great service as always.
Lunch was great, all good with the COVID cleanliness. I came back in the evening for a drink at 131 out the back on the left and then in G&J. The general cleanliness of the toilets and access to hand sanitizers wasn't very good all plus the toilets in G&J were too busy making it difficult to social distance. I'd also advise on the use of face masks in the bars especially for staff. So overall the experience was good but COVID provisions and access to sanitizers was poor in the bars. Regards James
We were very impressed with the way the restaurant adapted to current times. The chicken teriyaki was exceptional
Food was lovely and the atmosphere was average as expected given the situation. Service on the other hand was terrible we waited 30 minutes for a drink the first time and 45 minutes the second time. We were not even offered a dessert menu. It really was such a disappointment as we had been looking forward to the evening.
